Going to IMAX on Tuesday night.

And I am a Trekkie - excluding films 9 & 10, Voyager and Enterprise.

Hello All, saw this myself on opening day, being a long time star trek fan, i must say that the fx were fantastic, and a great story line, it was not a next generation movie, but this one should start a whole new generation of star trek fans, well done Very Happy

I've heard nothing but good word on this from, well pretty much everybody who has seen it, so while I was always a little wary, I'm definitely looking forward to catching it as soon as I'm able to find the time to do so...

no love for voyager? have you tried post season 3? it really picked up around then imo

everyone i speak to has nothing but glowing reviews for this new movie, even my trekkie flatmate who usually nit picks every form of media to bits (he's even going to see it twice which nearly made me fall out of my chair) looking forward to seeing this now! It would be good if they made a series based on this but I cant see it happening Sad

Saw it last night at IMAX Melbourne.

What I liked; the nods to the mannerisms and characters of Trek of the past (incl. the reference to Enterprise), a couple of classic shots of the USS Enterprise (and yes I love that 15min stretch in The Motion Picture), the cast, and the fact that at the end I wanted to watch the next film.

What I disliked; the inclusion of Nimoy, his ill-fitting false teeth, Eric Bana's villain, the Spock-Uhura romance, the scene composition (zoom out for goodness sake), lens flares.

In short I felt the film was good without being great. My problem with it was that I felt the film had a purpose - to get all the characters into position ready for the next (non-origin) movie - and things happened in the course of that activity but the film itself didn't have a story. Put another way, everything that happened in the film served to end up after 2hrs with the crew all on-board the Enterprise as we knew them. However what should've been happening during the two hours was a story in and of itself, and the crew coming together should have been a by-product. Does that make sense?

Anyway, everyone I went with - Trekkies of vary degrees - thought it was GREAT!

I'd rate it a C.

Loved it... GF who know nothing about Star Trek Loved it. Even my 9 YO daughter liked it enough to ask if I had any other Star Trek Movies at home so she could watch them.

(My little girl is such a uber geek.)

Haha...my 9 yr old daughter loved it too even though she was adamant she wouldn't beforehand. She's been hassling me for weeks about going to see Wolverine which I did on a school night so she couldn't come. Maybe tomorrow...
