SUPANOVA

Post by the dirty digger on Thu Mar 12, 2009 8:50 am

http://www.supanova.com.au/

Weekend of March 28/29th for lucky ppls in Melbourne. Inara from Serenity/Firefly and Claire the Indestructible Cheerleader from Heroes will be there. I'll be sure to put in an appearance wearing my best stained flasher's trenchcoat and paranoid, stalking facial expression.

Anybody else hitting this fun-filled festive fiesta?

Nah last year Kaylee the mechanic on the Serenity was there. I think it was Adam West who was one of the major pull outs.

Have it on good authority that pretty much everyone has pulled out of the Brisbane one - wasn't going anyway, but DEFINITELY not going now........

I don't see the point in even bothering with any supanova expos if people are constantly pulling out. What a waste of time.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the guest list for Perth will be greatly reduced. Instead of a guest list, I'd prefer to find out which dealers/sellers will be turning up as I'd like to pick up some cheap Bowens etc.

I don't think Australia will ever have a decent Con...The last decent Con I went to was Ozcon back in 95 and 96. I managed to get books signed by Marc Silvestri,Dale Keown,Jim Lee,Whilce Portacio and Travis Charest at those 2 cons...

I think a few people have pulled out from Brisbane but more were added recently, if you're interested in Brisbane / Melbourne Supanova guests your best bet would be the forums (they are updated more frequently than the website) you can access them here:

To be honest I don't really go to stalk the special guests. I find the deals at the stalls you can haggle for and the sexy nerd girls in their cosplay much more interesting.

i'll be there early saturday. I enjoyed the last supernova I went too. only in it for the comic creators though, couldn't give two stuffs about the tv / movie personalities that want $40 for a signature on something I have already paid good money for.

As if they don't get enough already, you don't see comic artists/writers charging people to get their books signed!

Sorry should have mentioned that from what I hear, Sydney version is balls unless the guest appearances are good.

I went once, but found it to be poorly organised and quite underwhelming given the entry fee. BUT that was quite a few years ago now.

I'd be keen to attend again, if they had a guest I was interested in seeing (and if I was somewhat assured that said guest would actually turn up on the day).

They've now added Starbuck (BSG) to Melbourne (darn it - Starbuck would have definitely enticed me along to the Brisbane one) as well as Tara and Warren (from Buffy) to the Brisbane show. Also cancelled quite a few people.

Cheers.

Got my Bendis number 1's signed on Saturday by Brian Michael Bendis at Supanova; Ultimate Spider-man, Ultimate Fantastic Four, Secret War, Powers, House of M, and New Avengers!

Also got Ultimate Spider-man 13 signed. My favourite issue of that series - but then I dropped out in the mid-50s.

Sounds like a decent haul there!. Would have loved to have gotten some stuff signed and a Carlos Pacheo sketch done. I heard David Mack and Jim Cheung will be in attendance for Supanova Perth.

Supanova on the gold coast this weekend was pretty cool.
I was there to help out with the gundam builders workshops but between me and a friend we got some cool photos

This guy must have thought his ironman was pretty cool

Till Downey Jr rocked up and killed it, this guy was hammered for pics all day

When he wasnt posing for pics he was chatting up the ladies Smile

I admit to geeking out a bit at this lady dressed up as Booster Gold, he's one of my favs from the JLU animated show, she went the pose without knowing that two face was stabbing her in the back while catwoman bombed us and Jill valentine laughed herself silly

Six was there in fine form

This guy was a great batman, he was huge

Suckerpunch girls were great

Assasins creed getups were very cool

This ladies son was in the gunpla workshop and she had an awesome get up

Finally two of my favs after booster gold
Firstly Danger Mouse and Penfold

Then Megamind got me!!

I heard Jm Cheung is charging $200 for a head sketch (11 x 14) and that Tony Moore wasn't doing any sketches and then started doing some cheap one ($20-$30). I've organised to get three pieces done by Peter Nguyen (11 x 14 at US$50 a piece). Not sure how much David Yardin or David Mack was charging. I'll more than likely walk around and get some quotes etc, will definitely hit up Jeffrey 'CHAMBA' Cruz for a couple head sketches.

Thanks BoloMusashi Very Happy . Did you pre-organise your commissions with Peter Nguyen?

Also, I got an email from a contact working at Supanova
Sydney , who gave me these prices (almost identical to yours); I'm compiling my list for Perth Supanova:

- Jim Cheung – Only doing (very detailed) head-shots for $200.00 (quite a few takers at Sydney which surprised me)

- David Yardin – Will be sketching but can’t recall prices, approx. $200.00 for full body I think but I could be wrong!

- Tony Moore – Initially said he wasn’t sketching but then put up a sign saying he would do $20 sketches which were decent quick pieces.

- David Mack - $50 for quickie sketch and $100 for decent looking full figure brush pieces.

- Peter Nguyen - $200 for full body pieces (very nice indeed) and less for head shots. From memory these were in colour.

@Shocka at this point, I'm thinking at least one commission from Cheung, Yardin, and Moore. I might get more from Cheung.

Based on what I've seen from each of these artists, these are ideas I'm tossing up (I'll be sure by the day):
Cheung: Wolverine / Dr Doom / Scarlet Witch
Yardin: Gambit
Moore: Joker / Two Face

has he done DC stuff? seemed like a strange request....

will probably head down sat arvo, would like to catch the Ashley Wood panel.....says on his page he's doing signings afterwards but no place in the venue marked down for this....

Got a nice (20 second) sketch & signature by Dave Gibbons in 2010(?) on the first page of the hardcover watchmen TPB while he was at the Kings comics table, had a nice chat as there were only a few people in the line...... might use the same tactic for Moore with my Walking dead hardcover, will probably bring a 3A toy box and try and get Wood to sign that
