Toy Prices on the Up and Up!

Post by TheGoodDr on Mon Feb 09, 2009 6:54 am

Received word from one of my toy suppliers the other day advising that the wholesale price of a lot of their product would increase from April 2009.
This would be the second price rise in the past twelve months.
2009 is going to be a tough year for not only the consumer and retailer, but also wholesalers and manufacturers. Already we've heard of the closures of various toy manufacturing plants (namely Mattel) in China.
I have the feeling we might just see a toy company or two completely disappear over the course of the next year.

Yeah...but everything is going up so it's to be expected that action figures would too...It sucks but lets face it collecting toys has always been an expensive hobby.

easier said than done. a little hard to justify paying more than what you think something is worth.

Ame to that, I actually hate hearing our american buddies bitchin that starwars figures had gone up from $6 to $7 and had a hard time justifying the price rise.
Aussie dollar certainly isnt helping our cause either.

Regardless, not purchasing in these tough times is exactly what will keep us down.
I do understand your point though.

I'll have to be more selective this year, especially after hearing I now have a 50/50 chance of keeping my job in the coming months. LOL 2009 not so fine.

I have a feeling it won't. Our office has gone from 60+ down to 25 over the space of 3-6 months and I wouldn't be surprised if management over on the east coast shut my office down due to costs saved etc. I think we lost about 6 people today and there will be a couple more tomorrow. Ahh life in software development.

Seems to be the trend of late, but some employers are obviously more caring than others.

My mate does accounts for NSW/QLD and Melb for Obrien Glass, the big bosses said drop 20 staff but we will for go our bonuses to help the unfortunate ones.

He got let go on Wed last week was told he had stacks of Holidays and Sick days owing, and that they would give him 6 months pay to survive on top!!!!

Son of a bitch got a job with the competition 3 days later....

Some bosses care and some SUCK!!! Good luck guys and I hope you get saved.
