Post by HAL on Thu Jan 29, 2009 5:34 pm

I`ve been looking forward to them since they were announced and intened to order s1 online today, but now they`re here, I`m not sure. Great trailers aside, what if the movie`s crap!?

I'm reading the graphic novel now......I'll most certainly be adding these to my collection! I haven't collected an entire line of toys for years.......but I can't resist these.
I have great confidence in Zak's movie making ability Smile

I was thinking about it, but the photos of the production figures don't look that great so far.

Rorschach looks pretty tiny compared to the other three figures in the wave (Nite Owl, Ozy and Silk Spectre) and the inconsistent articulation annoys me greatly (Rorschach appears to be a statue from the waist down, Nite Owl and Ozy seem to have a decent amount, but Silk Spectre looks like she's missing knee articulation (although they left in hip movement which seems pretty useless without the knee joint)).

I know it's DC Direct and everything, but I still hoped that the articulation would be consistent across ALL the figures and that at the very least they would all be in scale with each other (I think Rorschach is meant to be a little shorter than everyone else, but he almost looks like a teenager compared to Nite Own and Ozy).

I'll ultimately decide when/if I see them in person, but at $30+ each, I think I'll be skipping them which is a shame because despite the fact that buying the action figures runs contrary to the commentary/message/whatever of the graphic novel, I really wanted some action figures (ideally the ones that are actually in the graphic novel since they appear to be fully articulated!).

Cheers.

If they were based on the comic book designs (and based on Dave Gibbons art) I would buy them in a heartbeat....I think the movie will be awesome but I want comic accurate figures with articulation not the ultra modern movie designs that are all but statues.

Comics Etc in Brisbane had the first series in stock for $30.00 each. I passed.

Rorschach looked very small compared to the other three. The likeness on Ozy was pretty darn poor and didn't look anything like Matthew Goode. Silk Spectre was semi-decent, but the articulation was lacking and I have my doubts about the figure's ability to stand without being glued down. Nite Owl looked very nice, but not interested in just getting him.

I might grab the Dr Manhattan from the second series though. The prototype pictures indicate he has the "full" range of articulation (at least for a DC Direct figure) and the swappable legs is a neat bonus (although where is the "variant" no-thong figure).

Cheers.

All I want is a comic based Rorschach statue, hell I'd even take a movie Rorschach as he's pretty much the same as the comic version (unlike, say, Ozymandias). That'd do me nicely as far as Watchmen is concerned.

It would be nice to see DC Direct finally finish and release those comic based Watchmen figures that got cancelled from back in the day too...

I'll probably pick them up. I don't mind the look of them, though I haven't seen any pics of the final pieces as yet.

They are becoming scarcer but I saw some on the weekend here at the Sandown Collectibles Fair. Try Borders if you have one close.
I'm still after the normal Comedian, Silk Spectre 1 and Nite Owl 1.

There's another run in a couple of months apparently with all the characters bar the classic versions.

There are a ton of these at Minotaur me'thinks. I know that there is an unmasked Rorshach in the main window display.

I'm pretty sure Classic has plenty of these still too. LMK if you want me to go look!

If I was still collecting DCD's I'd be all over these. But I'm not, so...

Rorschach, Night Owl and Comedian are still kinda tempting though...
