Brisbane haunts

Post by Nightcrawler on Tue Jan 13, 2009 11:17 am

I'm looking for some tips as to where to check out while in Brisneyland for action figures/comic related stuff. I live on the north coast of NSW and rarely have an opportunity/excuse to go to Brisvegas but in the next few days I'm planning a trip / RAID on Brisbane's collectable dealers and any tips/hints from board members in Brisbane would be greatly appreciated!

I'm especially interested in sourcing some specific PAINTS (acrylics) for use in customs, so if anyone in Bris has a good source for paints, I'd love to know!

Many thanks!

Oh yeah you can include the Gold Coast as well, as I'll be passing through there twice on my journey and so far only have Pacific Fair TRU on the list there...

I'd recommend the comics stores in the city (sorry can never remember their names) and the mr toys there as well. Also I usually find the toys r us at garden city is worth a stop in.

the big comic store (next to where skinnys records used to be) has had some good deals the last few times i went in...

Comics Etc - http://www.comicsetc.com.au/information.php?info_id=1&osCsid=c1713917f224ab5ca8d420a7befe9d05

Daily Planet - http://www.dailyplanetonline.com.au/

Mr Toys/Toyworld - Queen Street Mall (Casino/River end - above the Reject Shop)

No idea about "paints". There's the "Games Workshop" stores which have those Warhammer figures (and I presume the paints to paint them) (http://oz.games-workshop.com/storefinder/findstores.aspx), but not sure that is what you meant by "paints".

Cheers.

For the paints if you want a really wide range i'd suggest either hobby-one or hobbyrama, I'm pretty sure both have websites but i'm too lazy to check

That Mr Toys is awesome, a bit expensive to buy from but the stock on display is like a toy museum.

The Mr Toys and Comics Etc have some good discounted stock at the moment.

Mr Toys has a few of the DC Direct series for $15.00 (Smallville Series 2, the Wonder Woman wave (no WW in regular costume) and the DC Armoury series). Also, some of the older NECA stuff (KIll Bill, 300) down to $20.00 (from memory).

Comics Etc has the old BSG toys (series 1) for $15.00 and a few of the DC Direct figures discounted also (although nothing particularly exciting).

Mr Toys is looking for $55.00 for the Marvel Select Hulk though! There seems to be plenty of stock, so if I patiently wait for a couple of years, they should discount it to a reasonable price.

Cheers.

Was at that TRU on Saturday - not the best range of stuff I must say. Haven't found anywhere else decent either, besides a couple of gem stalls at the Carrara Markets - but thats Sat/Sun visits only.

EDIT: Might also add that there's a Toyworld at Australia Fair on the GC too.

Well I'm back from my Brisbane mission. I was impressed with Mr Toys and Comics etc, both had heaps of DC Direct stuff and I was able to grab the Teen Titans Robin I've been after, but I was shocked at some of the prices!! $40 for an action figure I just can't justify, although I really wanted the Alex Ross Batgirl...
I also scored HML X3 Beast and Emma Frost for $5 ea from Crazy Clarks. Now I just need Hulk and Iron Man BAF parts to build Annihilus if anyone has spares, coz I don't really want the figures themselves, although if I could find them for $5 I'd grab them.

EDIT: I also found the paint I was after - Chevy Engine Red for my 1966 Batmobile stripes! thumbs up 2
