So... I finally bought a Xbox360.

Post by DroothR on Sun Dec 28, 2008 10:01 am

Yesterday I got myself an Elite bundle with LEGO Indy/Kung Fu Panda (up for sale if anyone wants it... $50?), Mass Effect & Halo 3 (which is backordered).

Then bought Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Perfect Dark Zero, and a Play & Charge kit.

Last night I went on eBay and bought XIII, Halo, Star Wars Battlefront, Clive Barker's Jericho, and GTA IV. All rediculously cheap (and in the case of GTA IV, uncut). Embarassed

My Gamer Tag is "DroothR" if anyone wants to add me. Cool

So...

Anyone got any 360-related topics to discuss (or friendly advice) now that I'm on board? Wink

Yeah, I'm aware that the Rare of old is long dead. Sad

But at $30, I figured the risk wasn't too high.

Cool

Ergh... Embarassed

Just bought Grabbed By The Ghoulies, The Punisher, and Kameo.

That brings me to 14 games, and I haven't even had the console for 36 hours yet...

Shocked

Post by MAN on Mon Dec 29, 2008 1:20 pm

wow congrats.

got a 360 about a month ago. I now have more games on the 360 than my wii or ps3.

wii doesn't cut it when it comes to epic games.

planning to get some games for the ps3 when they come out, street fighter 4, batman arkham asylum...tekken 6.

I've got gears 1, 2...halo 3 (awesome/addictive game i've played all year!!!) left for dead, picked up crackdown and club the other day at big w for $30 a piece...games are just cheap on the 360! too cheap to pass up.

Had a halo 3 lan party almost every week since I got the 360. Have a 4 on 4 game via system link. If you wish to system link with a friend..all you need is:

*2 xbox 360 consoles (both with hard drives)
*2 t.v's
*2 copies of the game
*ethernet crossover cable (come in 3m, 10m and 15metre lengths)
*controllers
*snacks
*occasional break

I've always preferred offline multiplayer, with the yelling and the bitter rivalries and the snacks and the many discussions afterrrrrr....ahee.

Yay! Add me if you get it online. Cool

I actually traded in my copy of Force Unleashed (Wii) to take some of the price off my 360. Wink

Such a shame that version was... FANTASTIC controls, but why the **** did they remove the level select?! Neutral

I'm not gonna start a new file, and track all the way through the game just to play the bits that I liked! Mad

Oh well, I'll have to DL the demo, and see if the 360 version is worth buying.

Dabigfella wrote:I sense the regret in your typing!! Cool
Oh, there's regret alright.

Regret that Sony jipped us, and weasled me out of buying the system that I did prefer.

Higher pricetag + reduced catologue of games = WIN for MS. tongue

For the 12 month card? I'll keep an eye out, thanks!

mse6 wrote:Gears of War 1 and 2...great games
Hehe, already on my "to get" list. Wink

Though I have already bought 14 games in the last 72 hours, so I think I should probably slow down on new games for a while (especially seeing as I have little free time to actually play games anyways silent).

I prefer it too, but all of my best friends have moved away from Melbourne, and none of my acquaintances are gamers.

Crying or Very sad

So unfortunately, online gaming is the only way I have to play with friends.

UCK, i got the arcade and found i needed to spend another $200 or so to get it up to snuff. a little bit of a joke really, but I must admit the console came "free" with a new tv.

I'd personally NOT go with arcade if I was paying for it, lets put it that way.

Mythy's right.

Do NOT buy the Arcade.

EB's deals on the Pro & Elite systems are the best around (assuming the deal I got last week is still running), so go for one of those.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that. As far as I'm aware, EB don't have any new 20gb Pro consoles at the moment, whereas game do. Comparing prices online, Game have the Pro 20gb for $300 whereas EB only have the arcade for that price.
This may change in store though.

So basically, I would suggest buying the console at Game, and buying your games at JB Hi Fi or EB (if you have to buy them anywhere). And if they aren't selling the consoles with bonus games yet, wait for it! They might just be in the midst of changing over after xmas. I'd definitely wait for a bundle Smile

Game severely disappointed me on several occasions at different stores with their games vs prices. I managed to pick up a copy of Skate preowned at my closest Game store but it was $40 even preowned. I then had to pay $3 extra on top of that so that I could return it if it didn't work! EB are definitely the better guys for that sort of thing, especially with their 2 week chage of mind policy.

In other news an acquaintance of mine gave me a full version promo copy of Project Gotham Racing 3 on Thursday as he had a pile of about 15 of them just sitting there Very Happy

Isn't the price different between an arcade and a pro the cost of grabbing the hdd seperately anyway?

Oh, and when it comes to game recommendations... lots of good ones covered... but if you ever stumble across a really cheap copy of crackdown, give it a shot... it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be, and I'd only grabbed it for the halo 3 beta. Very Happy

Just barely.

But the Pro also comes with a Live Headset, Component & Ethernet cables.

Thus making the Arcade completely useless in every regard.

In other news, I just hired Iron Man, merely to have a save file on my HDD to unlock HB Iron Man in The Incredible Hulk game - which I don't even own yet! Shocked

I found that you still need the disc in the drive to play the games from the HDD.
it just means you don't get that loud annoying drive spin noise whilst playing.

I wouldn't bank on another price drop, they only dropped in the last 3 months or so (can't remember exactly when) so I doubt it'll happen again.

Received a full edition promo copy of Rise of the Argonauts from a mate yesterday...
