Casting Sentinel BAF Parts.

Post by FIELDY on Sat Dec 06, 2008 3:40 pm

Has anyone here casted anything larger than a head or a limb?

The reason I'm asking is a online toy store who I was getting Spiderman's from for the Sentinel piece no longer has any left, but I still need 5 Sentinel head pieces for my left over parts etc. Now with them hitting ebay for $35-55 USD, I was wondering what the chance of casting something this large and in pieces would be.

If it was possible to do this it would save me a lot of headache. Any ideas?

Not worth the time or effort. The cost alone for that much silicon and urethane would match what you would pay for the parts, and I guarantee that you will NOT be happy with the quality.

To get 5 alone you would probably end up doing about 12 diff casts if you have never tried something like this before.

Not to mention the fact that the sentinel heads are made up of multiple parts.

Probably not encouraging, but it's the honest truth. I did urethane castings while I was at university for four years, and it's something that I wouldn't recommend.

However, if you still want to have a go despite my warnings I'd be more than willing to point you in the right direction for materials and run you through how to create the molds you desire.

having just picked up my sentinel to have a look at how it's all joined together, I would give it a miss mate.

you will never replicate the torso to abdominal join in a million years, simply cannot be done by casting.

I also have doubt's about the shoulder joints and being able to retain all detail on the face.

This would be a much more complicated job than just recasting a ML head

My thoughts exactly Mythty, but I have a friend who makes moulds and casts things etc, who seems to think it was do-able, but Im not going through that much trouble, lol

I have fixed a few of the upper torsos balljoints and seen the inners and it'd be a nightmare.

I just wanted to show him it wasnt me just being negative, Id rather mould and cast them out of plaster if i just wanted a stand around army, lol

Thanks for the heads up and the offer of help too, appreciate it.

Also this is the reason why I hate people coming over for a BBQ and looking in my room, everyone knows a way to do something - even if its not possible, lol.

You made me laugh DBF, I just opened the built-in wardrobe in my spare room to put some toys in and I was floored by the amount of doubles and items I never knew I had.

I'm now sitting in my study thinking, man what am I going to do with all this sh#t? And then I looked at my trusty line of Sentinels and thought meh, sell off that crap and keep getting more sentinels, lol.

I am so having to get a table at the next swap meet -
