Recent Stylings - Engine P 6

Post by The Dr Of Style on Mon Mar 24, 2008 9:13 am

OK this mural finished a couple of weeks ago. The guy saw my original mural in the barber shop and wanted something similar (found here) http://www.artforum.com.au/vtopic4199.html .....so I basically did the same thing just changed the colours to suit the walls/marble floor and indoor pool theme. Also hid his company name in the mural....can see it in the photos on the right.... He has a water jet training pool in this room. Leafy plants will be in the planter box below the mural so should work well with the small bits of purple.

Same guy has just comissioned me to do a small mural in a building in Subi Centro. There is a glass elevator and I'm painting the inside of the shaft between ground floor & basement. Should be doing it this weekend assuming the builders get everything set up (ie so I don't get crushed by elevator mostly)....also trying to become his newly adopted son 'cause this guy is loaded......and is getting me to do murals in 4 new houses he's building later in the year.

Also have started doing a few shirts for friends' kids still a bit to learn but getting there!

Here are some shots of a mural I completed last weekend....bit of a marathon to get through...started priming midday sat and finished after a 14 hr day on sunday at 9pm.....Located in an external elevator at 1 Centro Ave in Subiaco between ground & basement. By the end of it my hands were cramped from the masking & brush and my legs and abs were locked tight from balancing on ladders all day....middle photo captures the actual look of the colours the best

And some shots of my 1 and only custom effort from our last custom comp. An Angelus Warrior from The Darkness comics....eventually I'll get some better photos...

Black Panther base with green stuff which I struggled to use (filling holes, fat neck creation type thing and shoulder pad armour)... sanded down/fingers into sharp talons, smoothed detail from boots & claws/toes cut into shoes & Angel wings airbrushed black with yellow highlights...

Extended the sword and added a double hilt too..

Body airbrushed with yellow/orange/red to get the blended fire colour

I was pretty happy with this as a first attempt....yet to see another one done anywhere

Just got signed up today to take part in a an exhibition/auction for a fundraiser for Perth Modern School. They have collected about 60 (I think) old violins which are not worth repairing and each artist will customise however they like. They will be exhibited at UWA and then auctioned off....As yet I'm not sure whether artists will actually earn anything or if all funds go to the school but the main drawing point for me is the cool idea of the show (like the Vader project I've mentioned before) but also apparently Rolf Harris & Robert Juniper are taking part and to be in a show with them is kinda cool.....As I've got a crap load of uni work to be working on too I've had to lower my ideas to a more managable design....I was originally planning to cover it with stainless/or aluminium plates and screws but just won't have the time to make up/shape the metal etc.....So looking towards using Mirror chrome paint which comes out as close to real chrome as possible..or colour change paint ..in my travels looking at chroming came across these guys.....http://www.bronzingstudio.com.au/default.php
they seem pretty cheap and look like they can chrome just about anything...I thought you could only do metal.....thinking about sending them a figure and seing if they could chrome me a silver surfer....now that would rock!!!
Some new pics to follow soon

My brother used to go to school with him, and hes done alot of the cars I know from the shows - but I dont know about cheap, I heard he is one of the more expensive chroming guys in Sydney.

I know a mate got the air vents done on his Audi to match the rest of the interior trim, 4 vents equalled $400, if they have to prep or pull anything apart, then the cost starts to skyrocket.

Theres a place called chrome for crusing, they are one of the cheapest in sydney, all the Hotrod guys I know swear by them.

Re: Recent Stylings - Engine P 6

Post by The Dr Of Style on Tue Oct 21, 2008 5:04 pm

Well after waiting 2 yrs for some love from Sota....actually still waiting.....anyway...I decided to give some suggestion to what could be coming in future waves......From SF Alpha 3 we have "Prison Uniform Cody" and from Marvel Vs Streetfighter, Cyber Akuma.......

Cody - (Taken From Street Fighter: Eternal Challenge) "Formerly a hero and protector of Metro City (in Final Fight). After the defeat of the Mad Gear Gang Cody grew bored of the blissful peace all around him and turned to a life of crime.Getting captured multiple times he spent his days in jail without a care in the world. Occasionally he'd break out of prison using the strength of his punches. The bandages he wraps around his hands cover scars he gained by rampaging through the solid brick walls of his cell so he could head back to Metro city to cause trouble. .......

I would have prefered if he stayed in his Final Fight gear rather than have this terrible back story be written but hey....Anyway I am yet to find a custom of him in this costume so wanted to try it....

Base is Sota Guile. Hair removed, new sculpted (2 attempts....still needs some work)....originally I was going to use Ken head & hair but looked too small on the guile body. I sanded the face to remove some of the guile "harshness" (eyebrows, chinline etc) sanded down/removed singlet detail, belt & pockets of pants...removed boots and replaced with savage dragon shins & sneakers (see later photo) sculpted baggy pants/collar and filled in shoulder/sleeve area to resemble jumpsuit, added to create sleeve details near wrists.... sculpted hand bandages (adon's too small & Sagat too big to use) Zip ties for handcuffs with chain from spotlight for 20c. Then painted with createx paints.

Cyber Akuma - In Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Shin Akuma was replaced by Cyber-Akuma (Mech-Gouki in Japan), a version of Akuma enhanced by Apocalypse. Cyber-Akuma featured most of Shin Akuma's attacks in the Capcom "versus series" style as well as attacks involving the launching of his mechanical left arm. (or right arm....like my source pic dammit)...also comes in blue but I first saw the red one.....I digress.....

Base Red Gi Akuma, added eye & ear covers, lackeyband replacing rope belt, sculpted arm/shoulder over existing arm to maintain hand socket. added teddybear 'googly eyes' for cuff details....watch for future use of these in funny photos..... cut into hand pads/gloves to enable wrists to twist up to fit akuma poses....joined fist & open hands to create 2 finger up/2 down hand poses & filled gaps. Custom metalic sandles replacing originals & lackeybands for straps. Metalic paint on body/face/arm/sandals then blue & black ink for arm, & paint for belt. Worlds most ammateur wash of dark brown over arms/feet to match remade hand

Shoryuken bitches! Very Happy

Some shots of my latest Streetfighter effort....inspired by Matthew K at the fwoosh..... basically just a ML Bullseye.....

Removed his bib collar, pouch belt & leg holster, filled leg holes, filled in face for mask and to enhance the skinny look I shaved down his lower arms & legs. some pics have him in visible gloves & thick socks but I think the slim look is better for this wirey fighter

does look a little short next to Guile but he is crouched which seems to be the standard stance from bullseye

Still needs a couple of touch ups with the paint but I started getting the shakes after a while so will finish in a few days

DIfferent sort of a custom job this time.....over the last few weeks I've re-done my ensuite bathroom.....forgot to take a before photo but Simmo can vouch for the terrible 70's decoration that's in my place.......Installed everything my self (tiles, toilet, plumbing), just needed a hand lifting in the vanity cabinet.....

pretty happy with the result, bought enough tiles to also do my other bathroom, laundry & toilet so now just need to find the time to keep going.....shower door being installed tuesday
