Anyone going to the Armageddon Expo?

Post by DroothR on Tue Sep 30, 2008 7:28 pm

http://armageddonexpo.com/

A co-worker (who I only recently discovered is into comics/figures/etc) suggested that I should go to the Armageddon thingy next month with them and their friends.

Looking at the site, only Doug Jones and the NGE1.0 screening interest me.

Has anyone gone to previous ones, and if so, what kind of things there might interest a first-time con/expo-goer?

Also, anyone planning on going this year?

Discuss!

i went last year, and will go again this year.

last year i thought was ok, wasn't great but got some toys from the mattel booth. they had carded jlu figs for 50cents a piece and universe figs for $2 each (superman wave or something like that)

also picked up some of the dcdirect alex ross justice figs for next to nothing.

heaps of comic boxes too, so well worth a look if you don't mind flicking through thousands of books to find a few jems.

this year looking forward mainly to getting a jim lee signature on some of the comics I own that he has drawn. well worth at least two hours of your weekend.

just depends on what your interested in i guess. this year i wanna spend some more time on comic back issues and less time on figs, but it depends what's available on the day as well.

Brilliant.

Mad

My landlord has scheduled an inspection of my unit for the middle of the day on November 1st.

I asked if they could reschedule, and was told that the inspection would happen, and if I wasn't going to be present, then they'd just use their key, and go through my place while I was out.

Yeah, but one of the few things that I was interested in was the "Heart Of An Empire" screening on Saturday.

That whole deal just sounds wrong. Surely you have some right as a rent paying tenant to rearrange the date. He sounds like the Hitler of landlords, most I`ve ever dealt with don`t give a toss about the building or the tenants as long as they`re lining their pockets.

There's no way in hell I'm letting tem come in here unsupervised.

HAL wrote:That whole deal just sounds wrong. Surely you have some right as a rent paying tenant to rearrange the date. He sounds like the Hitler of landlords...
No kidding.

This is just one more chapter in an ongoing series of ineptidute and inconsiderate behavior from my landlords (eg. the bi-monthly letters I recieve telling me I'll be evicted in a matter of days if I don't pony up some arbitrary amount of money).

Rolling Eyes

I REALLY need to move into a bigger, nicer place (NOT managed by Burnham Real Estate), but I just don't have the time to apply for and inspect prospective places.

If this were the case, where considerable bargains - or just JLU figures that haven't hit Oz retail (i.e. everything since Waverider) - were expected, I would definitely be going.

Wouldn't mind going to the Cosplay 4PM Sunday too.

No.

Figure wise, they collect anime statues and PVCs mostly, thus little reason for them to come here (at this point).

Just looking at the detailed showguide but struggling to justify going.

Might be inclined to go for:

SAT; 1PM Jim Lee Panel, 2PM William Katt Panel plus Jim Lee signing 1030AM-1PM

Or

SUN; 2PM Wrestling Traci vs Christy, 3PM Trek Presentation, 4PM Cosplay contest plus Jim Lee signing 230-5PM

No evidence of a Mattel booth given the floor plan.

Had a good time this year.

Definitely spent more than I did last year. Picked up a few Stikfas kits, Steve from Stikfas kicks ass, always gives us great deals...no matter how many laps we do around the centre, we always end up going back to him.

What I hate about these conventions are the sooks who are disappointed with their sketches from the visiting artists...there were two guys sookin about Jim Lee rushing their sketches, they should be grateful that the guy took the time and drew for them...damn sooks crashing the vibe.

Will definitely go again next year though.

Yeah there's definately a lack of understanding/consideration given to some artists on the time it takes to complete a quality detailed A3 pencils page for a comic vs the 5 min sketch + marker outline while leaning on their knee at a convention..... just another example of the "it's all about me" attitude of todays society

You're kidding, right?

If Jim Lee had been handing out free sketches, he wouldn't have had time for ANYTHING else. The minor artists were kept busy, even with their commission prices set at $100 for a waist-up pic, I think Jim Lee's were about $250-$300, but I'm not 100% sure.

That said, Joel Gomez drew me Sara Pezzini from Witchblade Very Happy
