Thats just some nice eye candy Smile
I always love your bases and the paint work is top notch as always.
Its amazing to think that actually under those crappy hasbro paintjobs is a decent base waiting to just be redone.

First time I've browsed through this thread, and I've got to say, you've done some amazing work. That AT-AT is amazing, and I especially love the Temple of Doom bridge scene, and the "I Hate Snakes" piece based on that artist's painting, along with the Last Crusade Coronado one. Oh, and the Nazi's one as well. Just great stuff.

Hi All

When I went to the Star Wars Exhibition the other month as I had done two commissions for a compnay that was holding a function, They also had Jay Laga'aia as a special guest. He was there talking about what he had done on Star Wars and also he was handing out the prizes that I made, I finally got the honour to talk to him and the conversation came up about my customs and he asked would I be able to make a 1/6 (12inch) version of him.

I told him that it should'nt be any problems at all and so after a few talk sessions on what we both wanted in the figure/base what you see is the final figure/base that we had a talk about, this was a privilage doing this figure for him and to meet such a great person.

RECIPE

Body & clothing - The body is a Dragon body the head I got from ebay and had to do a little sculpting to it mainly the hair and nose. The gloves a from a Sideshow Rebel Endor trooper the boots are from a Hasbro Jedi I think Obi Wan and the clothing, tunic and gauntlets are all done from scratch using different materials and leathers.

Equipment - The pistol is a mixed lot of a WW2 German Luger and Modern Day Pistol and the belt is from a Hasbro Jedi which has had pouches added to it from the bits box.

Base - The base bottom is from a hardware shop and then the back and part of the stage section is built up from balsa wood and foamcore board. The floor is a marble print I got of the net and printed off and glued inplace, The pipes are from plasticard and the main power box is some old phone connections I had lying around and the lights are from a 1/1000th scale Enterprise kit.

Some excellent work yet again Ron!
My only issue is with that head...I don't look at that face and see Jay. Comparing feature to feature is spot on, but somehow the combination just doesn't hit home (I've noticed this amongst other figures trying to paint specific people before, some people are just difficult like that).
And the grey looking hair - not sure if its because its just reflecting but it doesn't seem to work too well.
Otherwise it's really fantastic. Oh, and those boots do look like Obi-Wans in TPM. Smile

Hi All

TheSweetestThing - Mate thanks for the feedback it's really appreciated. With the HS I know exacatly what you mean it took me ages just to get the sculpting work done to the little parts I did, Slowly but surely I'll get there with sculpting side of things and the hair looks like that due to the lighting.

Post by hemble on Wed May 06, 2009 3:24 pm

Hi All

I wanted to to do something different from the usual Indiana Jones and Star Wars diorama's and figure's, So when OneSixthWarriors said they were having a Sci-Fi competition I started looking for something new to do. I started going thru all my magazines and came across the Games Workshop Catachan Codex and new right there and then that I was going to build a Catachan Soldier.

When the figure, equipment were ready and the base was built I painted everything using Vallejo and Games Workshop Paints and used drybrushing and Pastels for the weathering.

RECIPE

Body & clothing - The body I picked up of ebay I don't know which company made it but I do recall it being a terrorist figure. The boots I've had in the bits box for ages and the trousers are from Sideshows Rebel Troopers, the t-shirt is from a WW2 Aussie digger figure and the scarf and bandana are pieces of material.

Equipment - The Fuel tanks are German WW2 gas canisters and Stick Grenades with the tubing coming from other toy lines. The Flame Thrower is from a Final Fantasy figure and has been heavily modified using parts from other weapons ranging from WW2 to modern day parts. All the other pieces on the figure are from different figures which have been lying in my bits box.

Base - The base is foamcore with a piece of thick cardboard for strength, it has then had plaster of paris with fine sand added to it. the grass is static grass which is used for model railways, the broken column is from a 7 inch Indy figure set and the plants are plastic which I got from the local pet shop.

Re: Hemble's Customs - Face of Death!!! P8 05/07/09

Post by hemble on Sun May 10, 2009 10:31 am

I picked myself up another Indy figure the other week for the sole purpose of creating a Temple of Doom Indy. When I started weathering and painting everything I decided to keep the figure articulated instead of the normal statue type figures that I do so I could put him in different positions.

All except the right arm which can't be articulated as the rubber on the arm if moved will cause the paint to start flaking and cracking, I used Vallejo, Games Workshop and Pastel to paint and weather him and the base.

RECIPE

1: Indiana Jones - Everything is from The Sideshow Toys Indy figure except the right arm which is from another figure which I can't remember right now and the sword which is from the Relic Hunter. I removed the right sleeve and the small bead like buttons and replaced them using buttons from a Dragon WW2 American shirt.

I added a buckle clip using a pin and the bandage on the right hand is a piece of old cloth, I also cut the back of his shirt and his left pants leg using a pair of sharp scissors.

2: Base - The base is two pieces of foam core glued togther and then cardboard attached to give it strength. I used a stand that you get with a lot of the Dragon figures, I glued the stand inplace and then covered the whole base using plaster of paris, woodglue, finesand and small railway gravel. Once dry I painted the base with different shades of browns and sands.

Warhammer Minotaur Standard Bearer 4.5"

Post by hemble on Thu May 21, 2009 7:36 am

Hi All

I was looking thru TRU a few weeks ago and picked up a few of the Narnia Prince Caspian figures as they were going cheap. I was going to make a Minotaur Lord but decided to make a Warhammer Standard Bearer with this figure as it just loked the part. Everything was painted and drybrushed with Games Workshop paunts and pastels.

RECIPE

Minotaur - As mentioned above the figure is from the Prince Caspian range, the figure was basically left as is except for the left horn which was cut to simulate battle damage. A nose ring was added using a small O-ring and leather skirts were added, the axe has been shortened and the top blade removed.

Standard - The poles are made from balsa wood with model ship rope used to tie both sections together, the chains and O-rings are from a $2 shop and the skulls are from Hasbro's Indiana Jones Pitfall playset. The flag is from a old piece of material I had lying around my 4 yr old daughter helped me with the drawings it's a little to one side but I didn't have the heart to change it so I left it as is.

Base - The base is a stand from a figure I had in the cupboard and plaster was used for the base then kitty litter and fine snad was added. It was then painted and static grass and shrubs were used.

Hi All

I can never get enough Indy so here is another dio, enjoy and LMK what you think.

When I decided to do a TLC diorama I looked thru the DVD for ages and then decided on this diorama as it's not what people would make if they made a TLC dio. I wanted to something on the base to separate the black area so I decided to attach a small TLC poster.

RECIPE

1: Indiana Jones - Everything is from The Sideshow Toys Indy figure except the tie which is from a Dragon WW2 figure. The figure has been painted and weathered using Vallejo paints and Pastels.

2: Base - I have done a tutorial for the base which you can view here [urlhttp://www.hemblecreations.com/tutorials.htm[/url]

Hi All

Forgotten Son wrote

Cheers mate and you know me got to build bases for the figures.

I picked up a few of the new Playmates 3-3/4" Salvation figures the other day solely to do some custom with them. I wanted to do a battle damaged Infiltrator Terminator and normal one with a larger then normal gun and the result is what you see in the pictures. The base and figures again as always have been painted with Vallejo, GW paints and Pastels which I'm finding to be great for using with models/dio's.

RECIPE

Normal Terminator - The endoskeleton Termie has been modified buy cutting and repositioning his forearms, head and torso section and he has been given a IG-88 rifle.

Damaged Terminator - The damaged Termie has been heavily by cutting itand also a Build and Brawl figure. Once I got the desired parts cut to how I wanted them I glued them together, then used the upper leg section of an old SW figure and the right lower leg of a Indiana jones figure and ince all parts were glued together all the joints were puttied up.

Base - The base is a stand from a 12" figure I had lying around, it has been built up using plaster of paris and then let to semi dry. While the plaster is still soft I inserted varies items from the bits box to simulate destroyed buildings and scattered debri I thenn covered it with kitty litter, fine sand and broken pieces of small 1/35th scale bricks.

I painted the base so it looks charred and the objects have a really rusty look to them, this is where the pastels came into effect they are perfect for realistic weathering.

Re: Hemble's Customs - Face of Death!!! P8 05/07/09

Post by hemble on Sun Jun 07, 2009 12:26 pm

Hi All

In the year 2015AD the earths nations almost destroyed themselves with World War 3 that lastest 11 years even thou no nuclear weapons were dropped mankind was almost destroyed. So in 2026AD the reminents of the old goverments decided that it was time to form two counciling bodies called BLUE nad RED sectors.

In 2032AD BLUE and RED becoming bored with the peaceful exsistents so in 2036AD they started making ROBOTS called C-A-R'S (Combat-Assault-Robots) for War Games and these War Games would last for 6 months at a time and at the end of that time a winner would be decided on captured facilities, loses etc. The winner would be given an extra 20% of resources until the next War Games.

The War Games lastest for 10 years and both sections were very happy unitl in 2046AD the C-A-R'S became self aware of what was going on and what was happening to them and they began to fight back against their makers. This revolt only lastest 5 months and all of Mankind was wiped clean from the face of the earth, Now that the humans were all gone the C-A-R'S exsisted peacefully until 2056AD when without warning the BLUE sector started attacking the RED sector.

100 years on (2156AD) the battle against RED C-A-R'S and BLUE C-A-R'S continues for domination and resources, some C-A-R'S say that the humans programmed there initial chips so that there could be no peace others say that it is instict to fight BUT NO-ONE WILL NEVER KNOW.

RECIPE

Robots - The Robots are a mixture of SW figures and Games Workshop's Imperial sentinal, the Robots have been painyed and weathering using Games Workshop paints and Pastels.

Base - The base is built up using foam core the wall is some foam I had lying around, the pipes and wall supports are pieces of plasti rod and pipe. The damaged Robot is and IG-88 and the debri is pieces of foam and smashed up 1/35 scale bricks and fine sand, the wall and larger pieces of debri have been covered in palster to simulate concrete.

The floor is cardboard which has had the tiles marked and scribed using a model knife and tweezers and the small power box on the wall is from a GW Imperial sentinal and the girders are plasti card. The base was weathered and painted uisng Vallejo paints and Pastel.
