Post by hemble on Mon Feb 16, 2009 9:45 am

Hi All

I was looking at THE RAIDER.NET the other day and they had a new art works added to the artist area so I went and had a look. There was one particular artist's painting that I liked so I went and viewed his website, He had a painting of Indy's gear hanging from wall mounts inside a picture frame which I thought looked totally amazing.

On seeing this painting I contacted the painter and asked would he mind if I made he's painting into a 3D interpertation and he kindly agreed. The painters name is Eric Conklin he also does other great paintings so go and have a look at his site www.ericconklin.com you won't be dissapointed.

RECIPE

1: Clothing & Equipment - Are all from the Sideshow Toys Indy figure, I have added a small O-ring to the pistol and have reapinted and weathered all the gear using Vallejo and Games Workshop paints.

2: Frame & backdrop - The frame is from a $2 shop and the backdrop is a scan section of the Hasbro KOTCS redemption figure. I I printed it off and added a top and lower section using balsa wood and glued the printed section to the balsa wood. I also added a wall hanger using the same procedure as the top/lower section and then cut small sections of skewers and attached them to the wall mount.

The stencilling is a font called Octin Stencil and it can be found under the military section of any font site on the web.

Inspiration Original Image by 'Eric L Conklin, Wind Chime Manor, USA'.

Re: Hemble's Customs - Face of Death!!! P8 05/07/09

Post by hemble on Sun Feb 22, 2009 12:35 pm

Hi All

March 12th 1938, the US Government intercepts a German communique stating that Hitler is looking for clues to a mythological artifact called the Seal of Soloman. And yet again the US Government travels to Barnett Collage to see if Jones will find the Seal of Solomon and find out what it is and does.

Jones tells them that the Legend has it that the Seal of Solomon was a magical signet ring said to have been possessed by King Solomon, which variously gave him the power to command demons, genies,or to speak with animals. Indy also mentions that there are 6 markers that make up a stone tablet that shows the whereabouts of the Seal of Solomon. After hearing this information they ask Jones will he try and find the Seal of Solomon before the Nazis do.

Jones agrees and the next day heads of, March 17th 1938 after reaching an old ruined castle on the borders of France and Germany Jones does a little archeological work and finds a marker that could lead him to the Seal of Solomon. But before he can leave he is jumped upon by a Nazi soldier who was patrolling the area. Thee two start brawling, Jones taken by surprise at first realizes it's a Nazi solder and thinks to himself Nazis.I Hate these guys.

Jones not wanting the soldier to raise an alarm gives him one final blow that knocks him out, after tying the soldier up he picks up his marker and high tails it out of there before anymore patrols come thru and to figure out his next move.

RECIPE

1: Indiana Jones - Everything is from The Sideshow Toys Indy figure it has been repainted and weathered using Vallejo and Games Workshop paints.

2: German Soldier
- The body is a Sideshow Toys Indy body as it is perfectly proportioned and the uniform fits very well. The uniform and equipment are from Dragon models and the head is from The frontline custom heads and was a limited run of Jack O'Niell sculpt. It was repainted and weathered using Vallejo and Games Workshop paints.

3: Base - The base is a picture I got from a $2 shop, I built the floor section up using foam core and the scribed the stone section into using a model knife and tweezers. I small wall ruin is foam cut and glued inplace, I then covered the whole thing with 90% plaster of Paris and 10% woodglue.

Once the plaster dried I painted it using Vallejo paints, the static grass and moss are both from Woodland Scenic's, the grass was left to dry and then given a wash of Vallejo's Dark Green and then dry brushed with Vallejo's light Green.

Post by hemble on Wed Mar 04, 2009 6:32 am

Hi All

While I've been waiting for supplies/materials to arrive to finish of some commissions I'm doing I thought that I would complete this figure.

I have to give a BIG THANKS to IanH on mousedroid for supplying the figure cheers buddy.

This figure is a commission for a Law firm in Sydney that are having a function in Sydney at the Star Wars Exhibition.

The figure once I had the right pose was painted using Vallejo and Games Workshop paints and the robe was re-coloured by letting it soak in diluted paint till I liked the look.

RECIPE

Body & clothing - The whole figure except the cane is from Hasbro, the cane as been made from balsa woood. A new belt has also been added by using some left over leather and cutting and re-gluing the pouches of the old belt onto the leather one. The hair is from a halloween spider web toy, I just pulled the web apart and glued it to the head.

Base - the base is from a small dinosaur toy that had a plastic dome over it, I removed the dome and filled the inside of the base with plaster of paris mixed with brown paint. Once the plaster had dried I covered the base with crushed up mulch and soil and used a piece of bark from the back yard garden. The snake is from the young indy figure from Hasbro.

Post by hemble on Sun Mar 08, 2009 3:48 pm

Hi All

This figure was commission for a friend of mine who is in the Army, I completed it about two months ago and misplaced the pictures in the wrong folder and only found them today.

My friend sent me one of the SS Rebel figures and asked to have it changed to a comms specialist as that is what he does in the Army.

RECIPE

Body & clothing - The body, head and garters are from Dragon Models, the gloved hands and uniform are from Sideshow Toys. With the helmet I removed the right ear cover and replaced it with a German WW2 head set piece and added wires and a small mouth piece to it.

Equipment - The rifle and comms unit are from Sideshow Toys, I added extra wires and parts from the bits box and also added a thinner rifle sling to the weapon.
The small toolbox, long pouches and pants belt are from Dragon Models. The uniform was given the old boil and wash method to soften the cloths and then slight dry brush of various colours to get the desired look.

Base - the base is from Sideshow Toys which comes with the figure, I covered it in a two part mix of plaster and kitty litter.
When the mix dried I painted it then let dry and and gave it a wash and drybrush of variuos browns to get the desired colour.
The plants are fish tank plants which have been given a slight wash of a two part mix of Dark Green and Off White.

Just wanted to stick my virtual head into this thread and say that these are some of the best custom figs I've seen - wha you've managed to do with the dioramas on display here is mindboggling - that repro of the indy painting in particular proves how much of an art form this sort of work can be in it's own right.

As someone who's own artistic skills are pretty limited to 2 dimensions, I tip my hat to you mate - this is top shelf stuff!

Re: Hemble's Customs - Face of Death!!! P8 05/07/09

Post by hemble on Sun Mar 22, 2009 3:05 am

HI All

This dio was for a competition over at figurerealm, it came in 5th out of about 38 entries which I'm really happy with. So go over and check out the other dios there are soem very well thought out ones.

RECIPE

1: Figures - Both figures are from Hasbro, Sallah has been positioned and all the joints superglued, Indy has been made from various other figures which are.

Legs & head - are from the Indy that comes with the Ark.
Body - the body is from the Cairo swordsman so is the lower part of the robes,
Arms - are from the Sallah
Once I got the posture I wanted Indy was pinned and superglued together and both he and Sallah were paited before adding them to the base.

2: Base - The base is made from balsa wood, foam and cardboard, once I got the height I wanted I cut a hole thru the foam and then used sculpty clay to make the stone entrance. The fallen debri on the floor is old pieces of foam covered in fine sand and plaster.

The Map Room walls are pictures I got of the internet and then gled them to the back of the base and sanded them once it all dried. I decided to give the walls the a really old feel to them and have section of it either fading or crumbling, I did this by adding plaster and fine sand to some areas and the drybrushed over these areas.
The wooden wall embankment is made from balsa wood and painted and the shovel is from the Sallah figure. The rope is fine leather that I got from the material shop. The top of the base where Salah is was covered in plaster and fine sand and was painted and drynrushed to the desired look.

Re: Hemble's Customs - Face of Death!!! P8 05/07/09

Post by hemble on Tue Mar 24, 2009 4:57 pm

Hi All

This was a commission for a friend over at mousedroid, he e-mailed me and asked me would I do I Tatooine dio for him and I said yes no worries at.
He supplied all the figures and building etc and also sent pictures and sketches of how he wanted it done, and the end result is what you see here. He even wrote a background story as well so enjoy.

And more pics can be seen here
http://www.hemblecreations.com/starwarsdios.htm

Background Story

Tatooine is an isolated garrison planet. Pretty much seen by imperials as a punishment posting. There are numerous posting like this in the SW universe. The local Imperial Commandant has abandoned ambition & a military career for a more lucrative criminal life. The sector Moff is uninterested in his activities as long as he receives his tithe.
The Tatooine Commandant has specialized in taking on the "lost causes" & "head cases" of the local sector Imperial command. Any trooper, specialist or command imperials who are too hard to handle are sent to the Tatooine garrison so as not to interfere with other, more efficient militant posts.

The Tatooine Commandant takes on the washouts, executes the unreliable, promotes & transfers out any quality staff & keeps the dregs. This allows him to maintain a hardened crew that can compete with the local crime lords and keep the money & illicit goods rolling in. He ensures that all communication back to sector command has just the right balance of weary compliance, hopelessness & lack of any substance that would interest anyone higher up in the command chain.
He is on his way to becoming a rival to Jabba himself.

Then all hell breaks loose threatening to expose his quiet vicious happy little world.
A huge star destroyer bigger than any he had ever seen is in orbit. Lord Vader himself, a figure he thought was mostly a political myth, has his unrelenting gaze focused on Tatooine. The Commandant has very little time & even less room to maneuver, to extract himself from the situation. Vader doesn't care about anything but a life pod that has landed somewhere around the Northern & Western Dune Seas. It's a massive area. In addition Vader wants to keep this operation quiet from the local population. Any blowback from this needs to be directed at a non imperial source, say a local crime lord & any witnesses silenced. The Commandant thinks blaming the local vermin such as the Jawas or the Sandpeople would be a better idea, easy to stage & believable . The Moff has reinforced Vader's orders with threats of disintegration if Vader is not made happy very quickly so they can all return to their happy little lives. He tells the Commandant that Vader is barely in control & the very name of Tatooine seems to anger him further.

The Commandant turns out every Trooper & Officer he has to scour the place. But it is a huge area & the chances of finding anything is remote. To make matters worse Vader has dispatched a significant number of specialist troopers, in groups or individually (the loose custom troopers such the Jedi Hunter, etc), to hunt for the prize. The Commandant instructions to his officers are simple & clear, find the pod first, leave no witnesses to imperial activity, use the Sandpeople as a cover for any atrocities & any acts will be forgiven if the pod is found. If they fail every personnel file, with detailed lists of all individual crimes, will be sent to the Imperial Guard for processing. The stakes are high.
As the day progresses a breakthrough. A patrol has found the pod but frustratingly it's empty. Two sets of droid tracks are found, a bipedal & possibly an astromech, leading away from the pod (the LOOK SIR DROID'S dio). Vader's orders did not indicate that they would be looking for a droid! Vader punctuates the new orders to find these droid's with the execution of the imperial gun crew that did not fire upon the pod in the first place. The message is clear, success or death.

The result is immeasurable scenes of chaos on Tatooine. While the Imperials are distracted a lot of the population are taking advantage, sorting out old grudges or trying to make a few credits. A spice dealer trying to diversify into blaster smuggling gets caught in an imperial roadblock, panics & tries to run, cutting down a trooper & is shot to death by the other troopers manning the position. (The MEDIC Dio).
A patrol backed by an AT ST finds a 3PO unit working for a rival gang leader on his moisture farm. The patrol destroys the farm & the droid leaving planted evidence of Sandpeople activity. (the ATST dio).

A patrol headed by a particularly ruthless officer and made up of local & off world troopers including an intelligence specialist, manages to connect the pod droid tracks to a Jawa Sandcrawler. The Sandcrawler is found, its Jawa crew are slaughtered & all the droid's removed/destroyed. They make contact with the Commandant. He hopes that the droid's they have found are the ones they need. The Commandant instructs the patrol to to make it look like a Sandpeople strike. The Officer tells the Commandant that the Sandcrawler had made at least three stops to sell junk before the patrol found it as the intelligence clone gleaned from the crawler logs. The Commandant instructs the patrol to backtrack & hunt down any droids or droid parts that may have been sold off.
The first homestead farmer states that he only bought some Landspeeder & Vaporator parts from the Jawas. After handing over the parts he is immediately executed. His shocked farmhand, watching from inside the homestead, tries to get help from the nearest farm by messaging them. Owen Lars receives a garbled message that the imperials are murdering people & his neighbor was just shot. The message ends abruptly. Leaning over the body of the farmhand the Officer is assured by the trooper commander that the message was jammed. The patrol again disguises the crime as an act of the Sandpeople & moves on to the destination of the message & the next Jawa stop, Owen Lars' moisture farm.

The patrol spreads out as it enters the next farmstead. The trooper acting as point radios the patrol officer that the farm is empty & it is safe to approach. Owen watches in horror as the patrol gathers near the entrance to the homestead just as Beru is returning from looking for Luke. Beru waves to the patrol nervously & Owen watches as the scout raises his blaster. As their attention is centered on Beru the whole patrol comes under projectile fire, killing the scout & winging the officer. The patrol returns fire & in a withering blaze of blasterfire Owen is cut down. Beru is killed in the crossfire.
The officer is livid with the trooper commander. He was almost killed because of the troopers incompetence. How could the scout have missed the woman approaching them? As the argument rages the other troopers continue on with thier work. The firetrooper destroys any evidence of imperial activity. A trooper is laying down some Sandpeople debris as he has done all day. The offworld imperial intelligence trooper is examing all droids & droid parts for evidence of recent star travel.

After torching the homestead the patrol moves onto their last destination hoping to find the droid's & get out of the blasted Sun's. The Commandant is getting very little back from any of the patrols, numerous droids & parts but nothing to suggest a connection to the pod & Vader's prize. Time is running out.

RECIPE

Figures & Structure- All figures are from Hasbro some have been heavily modified and some slightly using either Hasbro parts or parts from the bits box.

Base - The base is an old picture frame, and has been built up using sand, plaster of paris. The footprints were done using other Trooper feet All figures and Dome are painted using Vallejo and GW paints and the base has been painted using Vallejo paints.

Post by hemble on Sat Apr 18, 2009 2:21 pm

Hi All

This was a commission for a friend of mine, he wanted the AT-AT to be in an Edor type setting. This was a simple diorama to do and once I got the desired postioning of the legs and then the right look for the base the AT-AT and base were painted using Vallejo and Games Wokshop paints.

I wanted to add some Stormtroopers from the Battle Pack series for a size perspective but could'nt find any so once I do they will be added but until then this is a great way to display the AT-AT

RECIPE

AT-AT - Is from Hasbro and had a few simple touch ups done to it, The inside legs were done using cardboard to hide the hollow look to them. The windows have had plasticard attached to the insides to cover them up, and extra toes were added by making them out of plastic.

Base - The base is an old book shelf , and has been built up using sand, plaster of paris. The shrubs and bushes are from Woodland scenics and plastic fish tank plants and the grass is also from woodland scenics.
