Climbing out of the Map Room (ROTLA) 12 inch

Post by hemble on Sat Jan 03, 2009 3:33 pm

HI All

Well I'm back and got straight into the customizing I hope everyone had a great xmas and a great new year.

When the Sideshow Toys Indy first hit the stores I picked myself up a few of them and decided to do a few diorama's with them as there such a fantastic great looking figure. But as we customizers know things need that little extra detailing or that little extra something to make it unique.

Thats why I opted to do Indy in robes from ROTLA and have the scene were Sallah throws Indy down the make shift rope using sheets and a swastika so he can climb out of the map room.

RECIPE

1: Body - The whole figure from head to toe is the SideShow Toys Indy body, The body is so loose the only thing that I could do to it is superglue all the joints and use it for a diorama. The head is the best sculpt I've seen of Harrison in this scale.

2: Shirt, Pants & Bag - Are from Sideshow Toys, they have been given a slight wash to tone down the colours.

3: Robes - The robes are left over material I had from another Map room Indy I did a while back, so instead of sewing this outfit I used material glue as it wasn't going to be moved around like the last one.

4: Flag & Sheets - Are made from the some material as the robes, the white sheets were cut to size and glued to the coat hanger that holds them up about 6 inchs above Indy's head giving the impression they are dangling so he can climb out.
They were given a spray of matt white once they were in place. The Swastika emblem was hand drawn and then painted over with vallejo paints.

5: Base - The base I got from a craft shop for $3, the fallen stones are foam pieces which have been cut and pulled apart to get the desired look. They were then covered in plaster of paris mixed with woodglue (PVA) and fine sand as was the base.
The base was left to dry for a few hours and then the stones were painted and them more fine sand was added to the base to give it more depth.

Damn Fools!!! (ROTLA) 12 inch

Post by hemble on Sat Jan 10, 2009 11:42 am

Hi All

This is a nice simple custom that I've wanted to do for a long time, I wanted to have the feel of Indy in the Drak Blue suit from ROTLA but also add my own touches to it. I decided to give him a Dark Blue pinned striped suit but making sure not to make the stripes to dominate.

The suit was given a wash over using watered down material glue and once dry was given 3 light coats of Dark Blue, and again once dry it was given a drybrush of a mix of Dark Blue and Off White to give it a little definition. The handkerchief in the breast was added as I liked the look of it and gave the whole figure that 30's feel.

The enevelope was added to the figure as I felt it needed something else in the dio, it was taken from the net and printed off and glued in place.

RECIPE
1: Body & Hands - The whole figure from head to toe is the SideShow Toys Indy body, except the hands which are from an old Star Trek AMT Scotty figure.

2: Head, Fedora and shoes - Are from Sideshows toys and the whiskers were sanded off to give Indy a shaven look and the head and Fedora were repainted as were the shoes.

3: Shirt & Suit - The shirt is from the Relic hunter and the suit is and old Playmates Start Trek suit, The suit has been modified to fit the SS body.

4: Base - The base is a small picture frame which I got from a craft shop for $2. The tiled floor I scanned from a 1/35 scale tiled floor I have and resized and altered to fit the base.

Hi All

I've had this little project on the back burner for a while now as I wasn't to sure how I wanted to display it, and after sometime I decided to go with the dio you see now. I wanted to have a Scout Trooper in his sector just waiting around for something to happen so I gave him a casual posture with his helmet off.

Once the whole dio was completed it was painted using Vallejo and Games Workshop paints.

RECIPE

Scout Trooper - Is from Hasbro he has been modified by seperating his legs so I could get a good sitting posture on him, his joints were puttied up using Games workshop greenstuff.

Speeder - Is also from Hasbro it has been modified as well, I got rid of the bulky looking handles and foot pads by adding plastic rod and plastic strips to give it a more realsitic look. I also added steering rods using plastic rod as well.

Base - Is a small picture frame I got from a $2 shop it has had a mixture of plaster of paris and fine sand added to it, once dry it was painted and then static grass and plastic fish tank plants were added.

TOD (You Betrayed Sheeba) 3-3/4"

Post by hemble on Fri Jan 16, 2009 1:10 pm

Hi All

When Hasbro released the Temple of Doom figures it was a very easy choice for me to make this dio, It was the prfect way to display these fantastic looking figures. As always when the figures and dio were built I used Vallejo and Games Workshop paints.

When I started this project I didn't want to just have nothing at the bottom of the cliff, So with this in mind a decided to have a much smaller version of the crocs having a feast at the bottom.

RECIPE

1: Figures - Indy and Mola Ram are both from Hasbro, they were put into the postures I liked then the joints were superglued to stop movement and then they were painted.

2: Base - The base is made from balsa wood and cardboard, the stone cliff face I got from the local hobby shop, it's 1/72 scale it comes in sheets of about 20cm x 15cm and was a light grey colour. I painted it various browns and sands to get the desired look.

The wooden/rope bridge is made from balsa wood and model sail boat rope, Once all the rope was added and tied to the balsa foot holds it was then covered in woodglue and then let dry.
Once dry it was painted dark browns and light browns to get the effect you see.

The base were the crocs are is made using fine sand and kitty litter for the larger rocks and the crocs are pieces of balso wood carved and sanded to the desired shape.
It was then painted and woodland scenics Realistic water added for the river.

Vader and Escort 3-3/4"

Post by hemble on Sat Jan 24, 2009 3:12 pm

Hi All

I've had a few 501st Troopers and a Vader in the bits box for a while now and decided to do a simple display to show them off, The decision to do a Death Star scene was very easy as I think it really sets the figures off.

RECIPE

Vader - Vader is from Hasbro and has had his joints glued and puttied together, his ropes have been set in position using watered down material glue. Once the robes dried I painted him using Games Workshop paints, I added Woodland scenic's real water to the armour to give it a gloss look.

Troopers - The Troopers are also from Hasbro which are the special (Vaders 501st Legion). I removed the Imperial logo from there chest as I didn't like it, I glued and puttied the joints together and then repainted them using Games workshop paints and added Woodland scenic's real water to the armour to give it a gloss look.

Base - Is a small picture frame I got from a $2 shop it has been re-inforced using foam core and the the floor is thick cardboard which has had the floor panels scribed into it using a model knife and tweezers. The wall has been made using cardboard and balsa wood, the small control panel has been made using cardboard and 1/35 pieces from the bits box

The banners are also from the (Vaders 501st Legion) and Once I was happy with the look of the wall I painted the whole base using Reaper and Games Workshp paints. The floor has had a few coats of Woodland scenic's real water to give it that polished look.

Post by hemble on Mon Feb 02, 2009 9:16 am

HI All

After collecting a lot of doubles of Hasbro's 3-3/4" Indiana Jones line I had a number of extra pieces from the small crates that came with the figures. And looking thru my bits box I also noticed that I had a few 12" items as well so I decided that I would make something using them.

I didn't know what to make till a friend of mine sent me some photo's of the Star Wars Exhibtion they are holding in Sydney/Australia and then I knew that a small scale exhibtion of Indy items was perfect.

RECIPE

I've actually did a tutorial for this dio so you can view how and what I did to make it here http://www.hemblecreations.com/tutorials.htm and if you have further question don't hesitate to contact me.

Re: Hemble's Customs - Face of Death!!! P8 05/07/09

Post by hemble on Sat Feb 07, 2009 12:07 pm

Hi All

This figure was actually a commission job for (Josh) over on MOUSEDROID ,but ended up being a one for one project. In return for me doing this figure he's doing me a small section of a Star Trek (TWOK) bridge for me. He sent me the figure and I got started on finding pics from books and the net.

Once I found the references I wanted I started work on him, Josh wanted articulation to be on the figure still which once the armour was re-attached you still have 75%-80% articulation left. The other decision that we both tried to figure out was what type of base to do, Josh decided to leave it up to me so for me the easy choice was a Tatooine style base.

I decided on this type of base as it fits in well with any type of SW character and it sets the figure off without the base being to over powering and distracting from the figure itself. And hey Dengar would have been on some sought of desert planat once in his life.

RECIPE

Body - The body is from Sideshow Toys and it's the Bespin Luke one I liked it as it's a smaller size and works great with the armour and outfit. The head is from Hasbro and the gloves are from the Endor Soldier from Sideshow Toys.

Uniform & Equipment - The whole uniform is from Hasbro except the following, side pouches are from Endor Soldier from Sideshow Toys. The holster and pistol are from Sideshow Toys Bespin Luke, and the MG 34 is from Dragon Models. I also replaced the crappy forearm guards with guards from a Hasbro ROTS clonetrooper and added strips to that using plasti card. I aslo added leather straps to the arms, legs and crotch area.

Base - the base is from Sideshow Toys SW 1/6 line, I added marine foam on top and the side then roughly pulled pieces off and then added plaster of paris and fine sand, Once dry I painted the whole base to the desired colour.
