What are people reading?

Post by drspleen on Sun Mar 23, 2008 12:54 pm

I seem to be in a bit of a comic slump at the moment. I get excited whenever Invincible comes out, and Captain America is really good... but not much else sems to be captivating me currently...

Anyone reading the new Hulk series?
I haven't jumped on since the rename to Incredible Hercules and was wondering if the new series is an ongoing or mini - I don't have any Hulk action ATM.

I read everything 616 Marvel these days...some of which I dread to even open. I'm so OCD.

Bolo, the new Hulk series is ongoing...and is severely underwhelming. It's already shipping late too, I believe.

I wonder how long before they renamed Incredible Hercules back to Incredible Hulk ... they better not can Hercules as I'm digging it. BTW, did you hear about Iron Fist's new creative team?

Yeah, it's a shame cause it's the best book Marvel puts out right now. Willing to give the new team the benefit of the doubt though.

Why does Marvel constantly do this? They re-launh a book like IF or Moon Knight with great talent, they get us fanboys in, they change the creative team and then it turns to Crud. Why cant they keep the successful team together for at least a 1-2 year run?

Yeah the days of creative teams staying on for long runs are unfortunately over (and have been for a couple of years).

Read somewhere recently that Geoff Johns didn't even intend to stay on Booster Gold for a year.

Artists I can understand to a certain extent, but with the way books are written now, surely they have more ideas for a character than just one story. If not, make it a limited series, and not part of the regular run.

I've posted comments similar to the following before but look at the launches of Moonknight and punisher warjournal..... I've always liked Finch's artwork but heavily detailed pencils like that I'm sure are hard to churn out on a daily basis....same as Ariel Olivetti's work in war journal ...sure it's stylised but it had heavy and i'm sure timeconsuming quality and details.
I'm sure pre launch they have a few issues fully completed but as the year rolls on the deadlines would be under more and more pressure to be met. SO now we have Texiera....who I feel works at the same quality he did in early 90's and Chaykin in war journal....latest issue some of the worst art i've seen in a while...not sure if this is his usual style or not (what else has he worked on?).... I can't see Olivetti doing more than a year on Cable either......I'm sure the push from studio's, and game developers is strong for artists but some of these comics you wonder how they're proud to ship out at times

Don't know about Olivetti's detail work...his backgrounds are lifted straight from photos and the like.

Well looking back at the 90's Mcfarlane, Silvestri and Jim Lee, I thought all were quiet detailed and there books came out on time.
I enjoy detailed work but maybe less detailed backgrounds and only detailed characters are OK by me.
Harden up artists :-)

Reading Annhiliation book #3 and loving it. Book 1 was great, 2 was a bit boring, lesser known characters like Ronin but 3 is going along great!
I will have to get annhilation conquest once I'm done with 3.

Anansi Boys is good. Have you read American Gods yet mate? That's Gaiman's best novel, I reckon.

I'm reading some Japanese stuff right now, Haruki Murakami and...some other guy, name escapes me.
