Toy boards

Post by TheSweetestThing on Fri Mar 21, 2008 8:34 am

So we've got Tiddlers - covering 6" and under.

Then we've got Footlongs and bigger.

Am I missing something or does this mean we're not allowed to talk about anything between 6" and 12"? confused

I think it was Simmo's fixation with man lengths....although going with the black green and yellow we seem to have some subliminal Subway adrvetising happening here too.....If threads aren't used we'll change or move them around.....or update the descriptions

I think at this stage with the smaller community that's why they've just made the two boards - one for smaller figures and one for bigger ones. I'm betting that there aren't a lot of 12 inchers and bigger that are cheap rubbish (at least, nothing we'd discuss on here besides the occasional hasbro POS Wink)

Maybe we should have an average man forum for in between Wink
I dont think anybody is going to be to worried if you post about 8 inch figs in the bigger figs section.

No, I think having a 12" + board, and a 12" - board would be the best way to do it.

I'm sure simmo will get right on that when he returns, so for now, lets just sit tight...

I was just kidding about the average man thing (no pun intended) I agree, im sure Simmo and team will get it all sorted out as the site grows and needs dictate, remember the site has only been online for 1 week!

Re: Toy boards

Ok people, here's my pitch (keeping in mind that I have no control over such things, so this is just an opinion):

3 "toy" boards.
  • 1. Figures, under 12 inches (2", 3 3/4", 5", 6", 7", 8-11").
  • 2. Figures, 12 inches and up (12", 15", 18", etc).
  • 3. Non-figural collectables (plushes, statues, dioramas, replicas, etc).

Then, if this place continues to grow, and there's need of it, I can see a 4th board dedicated to "mini" figures (3 3/4" and below, for Star Wars, G.I.Joe, Minimates, Lego, etc).

But I see no need of such a thing at this point.

Idea Let me know what you all think.

Sounds fine to me.
The problem with a lot of toy sites is there are to many sub forum's (specific brands specific genre's hell even specific companys) Which is fine if you have 10k+ of members with very specifc collecting habits, but i like most of you have an interest in most things toy related, even if i dont collect that line i still like to see what is new and it may take my fancy, but i hate trawling through different topics and sub threads of things which i generally dont collect as it is time consuming trying to locate specifc things.
Keep it simple keep it small until it needs to change is my opinion to many new toy forums try to emulate the success of the bigger fish which in my opinion does not work.

i agree with uck, at this stage subdividing boards isn't a good idea.

i'm not convinced that there'd be enough activity in the 12" and non-figural boards to warrant their existence. also, things have been pretty slow for a while. i'd suggest just putting everything into a single "toy forum" for now, see how the board goes, sign up numbers etc. then look at what people are collecting and split accordingly...

See, I agree with a single FIGURE board.

But one of the main things that propelled Figurama in the first place was people (I don't remember who, but there were a few of them) bitching about the lack of a 12" board.

So I made my suggestion with that in mind (even though it's not my personal preference).

i guess i can understand that. if you're only into 12" figures it would be annoying to have to trawl through all the threads about smaller figures.

i guess just leave as is for now and see how it goes. i don't think voting is the right answer. just encourage people to bring up any problems they currently have...

Ahem.....(flashes Admin Badge).....I can also make any changes needed....I'll chat with simmo mon and check what the dealy is yo....I'm thinking 12- & 12+ probably a good idea either that or we could go strictly action figures vs statues/collectables etc. we already have 11 forums so I'm not too keen on adding too many others....sort of why we left out a figure find thread - it can always go under news- and my theory is threads that have followings stay near the top anyways

anyway what the masses demand we'll overrule and do what we want.....just like the Carpenter Government.....what referendum?

i would have thought that news and the suggestion box could be combined into one board. then make another board for finds. or just a couple of stickied threads on the two toy boards.

I would have assumed that "Finds" would just go in the (respective) figure section.

...and as for merging the Suggestion Box with News, I must disagree.

I think the Suggestion Box is important (especially considering how new this board is), and having it siting there at the bottom is something that I (personally) feel is important.

OK I've changed the toy boards for 12 inches and less and 12+ we'll see how that goes for a while....keep up the ideas....this is your forum....and all that......If threads aren't getting used we will always update or change things. had a couple of suggestions for figure finds and high end statues etc the moment I would just put them in the respective size forum......thoughts? with 11 forums at the moment for the number of members is enough in my opinion

OK, again, figure finds are in Shelf Life...mods can update the news with these so they'll pop up on the front page.

I think 2 toy forums are plenty. I'm not completely sold on the foot long and larger forum, but it was something that had been requested for a while. Any more forums is going to dilate everything a bit much and make the main forum page a bit too long.

We are flexible though, depending on the future direction of toy lines etc.

And thanks Style Dr.
