It's like I'm six years old again

Post by Nightcrawler on Fri Jul 11, 2008 1:05 pm

Hey guys, I've not been on the boards much lately as my main interest has been in the ML lines etc and since Hasblo took over I'm not much impressed (plus I've acquired most of the figures I wanted) but I have some news that I'm so excited about I have to tell EVERYONE!!
Today I received in the post my 1966 BATMOBILE ELITE EDITION 1:18 replica and I'm pleased to report it is AWESOME Shocked
http://www.1966batmobile.com/hw.htm
Bugger the 'Dark Knight' and his 'tumbler', THIS is THE BATMOBILE!!!
Mattel has done a really nice job on this car, although it does more resemble the car as it is today, than the one from the TV series (in forty years there's been a few mods made to the old girl) but it sure beats my old Corgi 267 Batmobile I spent ages restoring a couple years ago. It has opening doors, hood and trunk with a fantasy engine and the bat computer in the trunk.
I also happened to see the base model today at Big Dubbya for $69.99, and the Elite is much more accurately detailed (but cost me $139.99 + post). There is also a 'Super Elite' coming out but it will be about twice the price again, but may be more accurate to the TV show, I haven't seen any pics of one yet...

I can't take any pics of mine for you because my wife has gone off with the camera for the moment... but she's BEAUTIFUL (yeah the car and the wife I love you ). I've never been a petrol head or into collecting cars, but since I can remember, this is one helluva cool car! Very Happy
Of course as I can't afford the 'super elite' version, I'm bound to be making some customisations to her... can't help myself... I'm considering lighting Rolling Eyes and there are some custom decals, parts and characters available from http://www.pimpmybatmobile.com which is a great resource for the Mattel models.
There is also a video comparing the base model to the elite here http://www.thecarroom.com/currentreview.html (bit of a download though).
There is also a 1:50 scale Batmobile and Batcycle released if you are financially challenged. I found them at K-Mart, although when I went back the next day to get a couple more, they were all gone. These ones are about $12 each, and the Batmobile (at least) is pretty inaccurate compared to the 1:18, but what do you expect? The cycle is really cute though, and the little Robin cart detaches like in the movie.
I have waited patiently for 30 years for this reproduction of my favourite ever car – if you are a child of the 70s and a Bat-fan, click on the links and investigate this great replica before they all sell out!!
Hey, this guy looks like King Tut!! farao

lol!

It's not really my thing... but I knew when I saw it somewhere recently... "Here is something someone, somewhere, is really gonna enjoy."

Glad to hear you like it... Smile

(I think I've got one of those old ones around somewhere, but it'd be in truly shocking condition. Smile)

Now I've just got to convince myself I don't need a Mark V.

Hey Nightcrawler, check out this guy's efforts to replicate the 1966 Mego Batmobile. It's going to look fantastic when it's finished.
