Well, according to NECA, Series 2 was due "Fall 2008".

So they COULD show up any day now.

NECA has ceased all information about their upcoming products (with Cult Classics 7, and Hall of Fame 3 hitting a few weeks back out of nowhere), so no-one knows...

I know there is still no news on wave 2 of the NECA turtles but did anybody see on Fwoosh that playmates have re-released the original turtle toys in with a bundled dvd, they are showing up in targets for $9 US.
Hope we get them but i doubt they will be $9 here.

Re: NECA's TMNT - The Thread (Updated: June 21)

Post by Xenaphobia on Mon Jan 12, 2009 9:57 am

I've read that NECA and Mirage (the company that owns TMNT (?)) are having trouble communicating.

Mirage has given permission for Playmates to produce special "anniversary" figures of the turtles in their original "comic book" colours (that is, all red bandanas - pics are available on the web, but cannot recall where I saw them). The Playmates figures are basically the TMNT CGI movie figures, but with the red bandanas (retaining the extra articulation though). I've also heard that Playmates were planning on doing something similar (comic based, but with extra articulation) for the other characters (Shredder, etc).

It would seem that NECA is peeved that Playmates has also been granted rights to produce "comic book" turtles and is refusing to respond to any calls, etc from Mirage personnel and by the looks of it, they've also cancelled the second series with Shredder and friends.

No idea about the validity of all that, but it does sound pretty likely and I'm surprised that NECA's licence agreement didn't ensure they held the exclusive licence to make action figures based on the original comic books designs/colourings.

Cheers.

Sorry, I realise that. I was just pointing out these *other* newish TMNT figures from Playmates (moreso in the context of theorising on what is happening with NECA's second series).

Cheers.

Yeh who knows what is going on with NECA these days (who knows what was going on with NECA ever anyway?)
It does seem a bit funny playmates making there own 'original comic style turtles' but as has been said over on Fwoosh this could be just because they have seen and heard about the popularity of the NECA TMNT.

Re: NECA's TMNT - The Thread (Updated: June 21)

Post by Xenaphobia on Tue Jan 13, 2009 3:44 am

Too true. I can understand NECA being p1ssed about it though.

Especially since the price point in NECA's turtles wasn't too extreme (that is, ordinarily there is a pretty huge difference between a NECA product and say a Playmates product, but NECA seemed to go out of their way to make the turtles more affordable to appeal to ALL collectors - children included).

Wait and see I suppose. I was looking forward to NECA's Shredder, but they've been super mute about the second series for quite a while (although, such behaviour isn't that surprising from NECA, especially since they seem to lose interest in a property as soon as they have something new to promote - Street Fighter 4).

Cheers.

Heck, like I need an excuse to go to Minotaur. Box set was $89.99. It looked exactly the same as the four-pack I bought of the original figures - except these and their weapons were black with a white wash over them - so I assume if consistent there won't be any bases.

$90 isn't to bad for Minotaur but i want the boxset with the bases, like the SDCC boxset i should have picked up for $50 US.

Saw the new old style figures today (the classic turtles)
They were in Myer at Bondi Westfield.
Thought about buying them, then saw they were $20 each so i placed them back down and left the store before i did something i would regret.

No the 25th anniversary re-release of the classic toy version of these, basically the original toys on the original cards.
