Insane prices
So took the kids to see Minions and it was actually pretty entertaining. Having seen a sea of Minions toys out in stores, I had a look yesterday and fuck me dead if this isn't insane...
At Big W, the little figurines, that are basically the size of a Smurf figurine, are $10. Ok, a bit more than I'd pay but everything is usually overpriced these days.
Was in the city later on and took the kids to Myer and HOLY FUCKING SHIT, these cost TWENTY dollars each there. To me, this is just incomprehensible that these things could cost $20, even at the usual Myer markup. I mean, who would pay that amount? Seriously?
Any other stories people wanna share?
I did have one funny experience at an EB games where a GOT White Walker was priced at $38 but had a "2 for $90" sticker on the front.

Re: Insane prices
Mate I get annoyed at full price movie tickets, let alone the toys...saw MadMax at Innaloo for $20 a pop plus dollar booking fee per ticket ridiculous.
We usually do Midland/Warrick or Belmont with club membership....or don't go.

Re: Insane prices
I've got onto using HBF and getting cheap vouchers. Saw Terminator for $10 the other week on a Thursday and took the wife and two kids to see Minions for $40 all up on Saturday. Also have a Hoyts Rewards card which is handy for building up to free stuff.
I think RAC offers cheap vouchers as well. Check your insurance company because they may offer it too.

Re: Insane prices
About a decade ago, EB Games selling Raven Spawn for $89.95. LOLNO.
Recently the DC Collectibles Infinite Crisis: Atomic Green Lantern Collector Action Figure, which was standard $20 price in America, was RRPed here for $70. Terrific.

Re: Insane prices
And now the government is also looking to lower the GST threshold for international goods to $20!
So, we'll be paying GST and probably some kind of administration/customs fee for anything we try to buy overseas for a cheaper price.
It definitely seems like a good time to find a new hobby!

Re: Insane prices
How did that happen? Where in the transaction did the GST kick in? Pay via PayPal?

Re: Insane prices
customs stopped it, it was close depending on the conversion to $US but was as worth over $1000 so got charged GST and the handling fee..... Even if they decide to not charge the GST if it gets stopped by them you have to pay the processing fee or they don't release the item.

Re: Insane prices
Do you know what the criteria is for stuff getting stopped at customs? I've had odds and ends stopped at customs before, but never been charged for it..

Re: Insane prices
It annoys me that we could be paying GST on stuff valued at $20 or more and is all supposed to benefit Oz retailers. Well if Hasblo actually imported all the Marvel Legends waves I wouldn't have to get them overseas.

So from July 2017 people in Australia will be receiving a lot more parcels labeled as "gift". ;-)Xenaphobia wrote:Oh well. I guess it was good while it lasted:
