Man of Steel sequel Announced !!!

Post by Blaster on Sun Jul 21, 2013 9:31 am

It's official. The Man of Steel sequel has been announced!

Zack Snyder took the stage at SDCC and asked Harry Lennix (General Swanwick from Man of Steel) to read out a specific quote from a comic that ended up being from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.

"I want you to remember, Clark," Lennix said, "in all the years to come. In all your private moments. I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember, the one man who beat you."

Read the official statement:

On the heels of the worldwide success of "Man of Steel," director Zack Snyder is bringing together the two greatest Super Heroes of all time—Batman and Superman—for the first time on the big screen. The announcement was made today by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

The current hit, "Man of Steel," has taken in more than $630 million at the worldwide box office to date, and climbing. Along with its star, Henry Cavill, the upcoming film brings back Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. The new Batman has yet to be cast.

Snyder is co-writing the story with David S. Goyer, who will then pen the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in 2014, with an anticipated release date in Summer 2015.

Silverman stated, "Zack Snyder is an incredibly talented filmmaker, but beyond that, he's a fan first and he utterly gets this genre. We could not think of anyone better suited to the task of bringing these iconic Super Heroes to the screen in his own way." Kroll added, "We are thrilled to be back in business with Zack and his team on this next movie. The success of ‘Man of Steel' is a wonderful testament to the love and support that both fans and new audiences, worldwide, have for these characters. We are very excited to see what Zack has in store for all of us."

Diane Nelson, President, DC Entertainment, noted, "Superman and Batman together on the big screen is a dream come true for DC fans everywhere. All of us at DC Entertainment could not be more excited for Zack's continuing vision for the DC Universe."

Zack Snyder, who made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con today, breaking the news to audiences there, later said, "I'm so excited to begin working again with Henry Cavill in the world we created, and I can't wait to expand the DC Universe in this next chapter. Let's face it, it's beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest Super Heroes in the world."

The new film brings back Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder as producers. This time, Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are serving as executive producers, along with Benjamin Melniker and Michael E. Uslan.

Thomas offered, "Whilst our ‘Dark Knight' trilogy is complete, we have every confidence that Zack's fresh interpretation will take the character in a new and exciting direction. His vision for Superman opened the door to a whole new universe and we can't wait to see what Zack does with these characters."

I am surprised they put the 2 together so quickly.
I wonder who will play Batman? I thought Joseph Gordon-Levitt was taking over as batman?
Do the 2 franchises totally exist separately?

That's ... different.

I can't say I've been particularly impressed by any of Affleck's acting or directing. I don't mind him in any of his movie roles, but I find him quite ... bland. It's not that he's usually a terrible actor, but more that he's just not a very good actor.

All that typed, with the exception of Robert Downey Jnr as Iron Man, I can't recall any recent superhero casting decisions which seemed like a great choice, yet a lot of them have been great in the final product.

I do wonder what their plan for the DC Universe is. Would Affleck have really signed up for a multi-picture deal? And if not, then why aren't DC/WB seriously considering using Batman in Superman 2, Justice League (or Trinity) as well as stand-alone Batman films. Or will Affleck's Batman be used to establish a younger Nightwing who will assume the mantle of the Bat in the wider DC Universe?

At least the casting for Batman's supporting cast has been taken care of - Matt Damon for Robin, Robin Williams for Joker and Jennifer Garner for Catwoman!

I'm in the "wait and see" boat

He's a much better actor now that he's a director, and if he starts directing the batman movies then win win

That is exactly what I thought when I read the story online. Seems to be a knee-jerk sort of casting choice IMO....."Quick, let's get Affleck now before he commits to something else!"

Whilst I did enjoy his performance in Argo, Ben Affleck kinda comes off as being "Ben Affleck" is all his films. I wouldn't consider him to be a 'character' actor.

I knew fanboys wouldn't go down without a fight, but this different, they crossed the line !

You crossed the line first sir, you dated JLO, starred in Paycheck and in your desperation you made career choices nobody could understand, some men aren't looking for anything logical, they can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negociated with, some men just wanna watch their career burn.

Still to see man of steel but seems like there has been a step up from the studios......more batman/Avengers quality than ghost rider/green lantern quality.....I wouldn't say Christian bale made the batman movies the plot, the ensemble etc was all to a high standard.

Rumor is that Batfleck will only direct movies he is acting in, and they are looking for a director for the upcoming JLA movie, so if they sign him on a multi film deal as Batman we might get Batfleck directing the Justice League too

Hes got the jaw for it but at 41 I think he is too old for a franchise re-boot.

christian bale was an AMAZING Bruce Wayne, but he was an OK Batman.

I'm hoping we finally get the batman we've all been waiting for. Moves like Snake Eyes, Smart and has tech like Stark, Detective like Holmes, Different voices for Batman and Bruce.
Him being older might mean we'll eventually see some Robins too
