Godzilla 2014

Post by Pixo on Sun May 18, 2014 8:56 am

What are you doing sitting reading this post?

Get up and go and see Godzilla. I watched it last night at IMAX 3d and you could not imagine a greater Godzilla film than what I saw.

Go. Hurry up!

I found the film to be lacking.

I enjoyed the human drama, but Godzilla himself was not the kind of Godzilla that I could really get behind.

Not a bad film, but not enough to nail the concept for me.

Agreed.

The fact that he doesn't even show up for the first hour, and only once in the first 90 mins is piss poor. The b ig G looks good on screen, but he's barely in it. Look back at the forst 60 minutes of the film and tell if there's anything you gave two craps about?

Actually, I really enjoyed the first act. For me, Bryan Cranston was the absolute highlight of the film.

It's when the film starts to focus on the monsters that I lost interest.

For me, my main gripe was that I just couldn't buy Godzilla's motivation. The scientist's theory was great, and I loved that rationale for Godzilla, but the way the film ends suggests that the scientist was wrong all along, and that Godzilla's existence is for another (to me, much less interesting) purpose.

[That's as specific as I can get without spoiler tags]

Yeah, my favourite Godzilla is a force of nature. It does what it does, and all you can do is try and get out of the way.

Spoiler:
I did like the "super-predator of other ancient atomic monsters" theory from Ken Watanabe's character, but he never takes a single bite of the MUTOs, so he's like a selfless super-hero I guess? All they had to do was show him dragging the big MUTO off into the ocean with him for dinner, and I could have rolled with that, and loved the film. As it is though, it's merely an average movie with some great scenes, not a great movie.

Give me Godzilla vs Biollante any day. At least in those films we get plenty of G on screen. As opposed to this where he was merely a guest star.
