Hasbro Masterpiece Transformers (re-boot) 2014

Post by awe on Mon Apr 28, 2014 4:54 pm

Is anyone else excited about MP-03 being a Grimlock re-issue?

I never got/saw him, as either Takara or Hasbro, so I definitely am.

I thought with securing MP-02 Soundwave last year that that would be that, but I don't think I could walk past Grimlock and leave him on the shelf if we are getting any here at TRU.

MP-04 is Prowl btw

Wait, is Hasbro's numbering that out of step with Takara's? That's kinda wacky.

But the more MPs that Hasbro release here the better! Very Happy

(Seen the Ultra Magnus pics?)

Yep. They restarted the numbering but kept the MP prefix. Makes it a little harder to Google for info.

I have seen Ultra Magnus, and Wheeljack, and Bumblebee... *sigh*... All beautiful renditions. An amazing/expensive time to be a G1 fan.

I'm still sweating picking up the black and red Sideswipes, and Smokescreen (got the other Fairladys and Lambos)... I remember when masterpieces came few and far between, and now suddenly they've hit clones and it's raining gold. Smile

2-Jul-14 (A7743) - TRA Masterpiece Prowl

2-Jul-14 (A9948) - TRA Masterpiece Sunstorm (Bah! I should have held on to Acid Storm!)

I never did grab Sun or Acid when they were around before... they're based off the newer Coronation Starscream sculpt right?

I'm still torn between grabbing Takara stuff now, or waiting for a local release and hoping for a decent price. :/

Prowl came out first. Hasbro AU can't even count.

They want $100 for him. Pass.

That's pretty cool to see them on shelves, I think for that money though you could get the Takara release. Is there any difference between these and the original Takara ones? If these are cheaper plastic Hasbro versions it would be a pass for me unless they are on special

I can understand the Takara versions being priced up around $100 as they are imported into the country, but $100 for a Hasbro produced MP that has world wide distribution is just obscene.

I know that the box is larger. I was looking at the Takara autos last night and the box is TINY compared to this.

I think Hasbro think they are being clever, and can justify pricing it the same as MP-01 Acid Storm because they are now comparable in size.

Grimlock sold out at Castle Hill TRU, straight off the back of the truck.

I didn't even have a chance.

I want a truck like that!

It sucks that I've already bought grimmy from usa and now its meant to be here for well, inflated but ok'ish price I guess.

but those prowls yeh, wayyyyy overpriced in aus. And if bought from places like hlj or whatever those are what, 50bucks plus shipping for takara versions?

Annoying aussie pricing at its worst!

My brother rang around for me in Melbourne and scored one for me from Doncaster TRU, so... phew.

Also, Sunstorm MP is meant to be out too. Also for $130. I returned Acid Storm from last year, otherwise it would have been cool to see if Hasbro is going to do the whole set of Rainmakers. Although, there seems to be debate as to whether Sunstorm is a Rainmaker or not.

So ... MP Grimlock is $130? Is that the best price for us Aussies (taking into account shipping if it was purchased from overseas)?

My MP collection is small (just Optimus Prime and Starscream), but I wouldn't mind adding Grimlock (and Galvatron and Arcee if they're ever made).

I believe he retailed at $80 US ($100 Canadian) when he came out earlier this year. It seems like if you could get him for that then shipping wouldn't have pushed you much past $100. The problem is you just can't get him for that anywhere I know of.

There's so many darn versions, (with throne, with coin, with flaming sword) it's really hard to get an idea but I believe $130 is a good price. He's roughly the same size as Soundwave (I believe) and I paid $150 for SW at TRU RRP (although he came with 5 tapes too). MP Prowl is a rort at $100.

But I _can_ say, that the only OTHER way I was going to get an MP Grimlock to me for $130 shipped, was a KO version from Uncle Billy on Aliexpress.

(which I was close to doing)

Hey... Hasbro or TRU have wised up.

Latest catalogue... Masterpiece Prowl $79.99....save $20 ;-)

EDIT:
You can even get him or Sunstorm online.
http://www.toysrus.com.au/transformers-masterpiece-prowl-figure/
http://www.toysrus.com.au/transformers-masterpiece-sunstorm-figure/

Now, why Sunstorm is the same price as Grimlock baffles me. Acid Storm was only $100, so I would wait for his price to drop also.

Thanks for the heads up awe, I guess $80 isn't too bad, don't think I would pay $130 for Sunstorm though

So I saw Wheeljack in my local TRU this weekend. They still want a hundo for him, even though they've forgone the HUGE box.

Here's the tiny wee box Takara sends these in looking mighty overpriced.

Ugh god I hate those security devices, if anyone wanted to steal them they would just rip the box or cut it with scissors, only thing they do is ruin the box and prevent them from being sold Sad

Makes Soundwave at $150 an absolute steal. Although that was a Hasbro release.

Are these simply more expensive because they're Takara?
