Playmates Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Post by awe on Sat Feb 08, 2014 5:39 pm

Ah, slightly spoilerish for TMNT season 2 episode 7:

Catching up on the show and am loving the Slash redesign. He was one figure that I never got in original figure form but I always thought he looked damn cool and he always shows up on people's favourites lists. I'm going to be hunting his new fig down for sure.

I am warming to the Casey redesign too, now that I've been introduced to him in the show.

So, I didn't hear this at the time, but apparently Walmart spilled the beans on a few more of the figures we'll be getting. here --> http://herotaku.com/blog/1/entry-9734-more-tmnt-toys-leaked-by-walmarts-system/

I've never gone in for ANY of the turtle variations before (ooze-tossing, stealth tech etc.) but mixing the boys with D&D type classes??? Yes, they are calling them "Larp" figures but still, you have piqued my interest sirs!

Knight Leo
Barbarian Raph
Wizard Don
Elf Mike

A nice match of class to each of the guys characteristics so it seems its been given quite a bit of thought, if not actually something coming out of a future episode.

I'm also hoping that the new Foot Soldier is going to have more articulation.

Other than that, it was cool to hear that Nick has already requested a third season so it seems this line will continue to live.

I'm loving the 4" line. I've given up on them at Oz retail and just get them from Amazon now

Rumour has it that pretty much all of the upcoming action figures will feature in the series in some way.

I think the "Robotic Foot Soldier" may have already been featured and was a throw-back to a classic character.

And yeah Robotic Foot Solider was in the latest episode, he'll be an awesome addition to the bad guys.

It might be on Pay TV, but it's not on FTA to my knowledge.

There is a great website which has all the recent episodes, although the name especapes me at the moment. Watch cartoons online maybe? Or something similar.

I bought the first DVD "Rise of the Turtles" to watch with my son. Coles had it cheap. We don't have Foxtel. I think there's a second one out now but it's definitely easier to source them online. The US is up to episode 9 of the second season.

Ah, bit disappointed with the look of the D&D Turtles.

Same with the robot foot. Just some extra arms and weapon attachments that are going to make it a pain to pose.

I hope the Slash figure sees a bit of an improvement as well.

All round not a great deal of 'wow' from Playmates at Toy Fair.

Although there was a hint that some classics were not revealed and of course the Michael Bay movie turtles were kept a bit quiet. I've seen these elsewhere and it looks like the movie will be consistent with the quality of other Michael Bay productions.

Yep. A disappointing showing in general.

I had hoped to at least see the Nick versions of Bebop and Rocksteady and I foolishly hoped that Playmates would finally reveal a "Classic Collection" Shredder, Splinter and/or Foot Soldier.

The original live action movie "Classic Collection" figures don't work for me. They don't really look like the turtles in the movie and they don't really look like the vintage toys. And they're virtually indistiunguishable from the cartoon "Classic Collection" based on the few photos available.

FFS. He's tiny! And they've managed to skimp on paint apps rather than improve on the prototype.

The line is definitely done on the cheap. There's a serious lack of articulation. But the show is so much and the figures are coming out far quicker than any other line that I'm collecting.

Ok. I'm only just watching the LARP episode now and the figures are actually pretty representative. I guess I was expecting more figures like the 80s line had like Astronaut Raph and DJ Mikey without any kind of reason whatsoever. At least this actually ties-in to something and the costumes are crap-esque because they make them themselves.

Still no Slash or Rahzar, but the movie figures are up on Amazon. $12.

April is probably the best if I'm judging on what I've seen. But I can happily leave the lot of these right where they are.

BTW, I wonder if Bay got inspiration for his "vision" of the Turtles from Jim Lee? Remember these figures?

EDIT: Whoops! Looks like Amazon wasn't supposed to put those up yet. Street date is July 6th I think.

Apparently Tiny Slash and Rahzar both popped up. I only saw Tiny Slash though and grabbed him with Metalhead.

I don't know why I'm so keen for these. They've really skimped on the paint apps and articulation. And Amazon will no doubt eventually put this down to $8 like the rest.

What the hell? This looks even worse than Shadow Leonardo! It appears he may also have been kragled like his SDCC exclusive predecessor.

Playmates, thank you. For helping me save my money.

That's pretty darn bizarre looking.

I'm guessing that means the next figures in the "Classic" collection are original comic variants of the four turtles (if the sewer lid base is repurposed from that line)? Although, these look somewhat smaller than both the cartoon variants and the 1990 live action movie variants.

And colour me confused about Playmates' plans for the "Classics" collection. THREE sets of turtles and Bebop and Rocksteady. Are they ever planning on releasing more secondary characters?

Yes! NECA did a really good job with it.

The thing isn't "kragled" (or essentially a statue) after all. I saw it in another pose.

If anybody is interested in seeing a crossover between the 80s cartoon turtles, the 2003 cartoon turtles and the original comic book turtles, then try and find "Turtles Forever". It came out in 2009 but I only learned of it this year. A fun watch for fans.
