Ghostbusters Ecto-1 - 1:18 - $75 at Big W

Post by Xenaphobia on Tue Dec 10, 2013 11:23 am

I spotted this in one of Big W's catalogues:

Yep that was my first thought too, I paid like $180 for mine. I am hoping it is not the same version that was so hard to chase down at one point.

Yeah, I got one for like $170ish and that was a good price. They were like over $200+ for the most part.

The crazy things that turn up at Australian retail chains, eh? So damn random.

This is like a couple of years ago when they had the '66 Batmobile exclusive to Big W. That was the Hot Wheels standard version - not the Elite.

I'll be at Big W QV in vain I suspect, tomorrow morning before 9AM. I'll report back.

Nice, will be checking this out for sure, thought $75 was pretty expensive but sounds like it's actually a steal, why are these large hot wheels models so expensive?

Got to QV Big W this morning at 8:50AM. They'd had 3 in stock and all sold to one person before I got there.

Doing the ring around now, but because it is a catalog item they say they won't hold it past lunchtime.

Big W Riverton had these out yesterday, they had about a dozen left if anyone's interested.

Haven't seen this yet (local Big W didn't get them / couldn't find them). Is this the same version that's selling for $185 elsewhere?

Yep just new packaging.. This is what really annoys me about companies like Mattel, they treat collectors like chumps. I actually tried to ring Mattel in Australia and they are closed(probably for a Christmas party or some such)

I don't have an issue with them selling these to places like Big W I have an issue with the fact that the price they are selling them for is so far below what they sold for originally (40% of what I paid for mine) and the fact that they were not that easy to get

Scored one today from the local Big W (Brisbane City). They didn't have any on the shelf but a very helpful employee (think his name was Rob) tracked one down for me. He said for some reason they only got 4 and they were all sitting in the manager's office...

Matty seems to do this quite frequently. Only recently I read some MOTUC stuff showed up at a US equivalent of Go-Lo or Sam's Warehouse. People lost their sh!t and I think the outcome was Matty promised not to do it again. I guess off-shore glut dumping doesn't count?

Wonder if that Manager checked eBay? Seeing Aussie opportunists already putting these up for ~$150.

Yeah think I got lucky with the staff member I asked in this instance, also makes me wonder if the same thing happened with all the recent Transformers Metroplex figures that were in store but nobody could find either...

Has been no SW Black in BIG W Brisbane that I have seen and I am in there almost every day.
Also you never see any harder to find Hot Wheels cars either even after a full restock when there should be at least a couple of harder to find cars there is none. I have had more luck at David Jones

Hmm might have to investigate that, sounds like a store scalper!

Ok guys, anyone who spent big on an Elite version of this model can breathe easy. I've just opened mine and using youtube reviews I can confirm this is not the Elite version!

While it's a great model for the price it is missing a lot of detail the Elite has. This model only has opening driver and passenger doors for example. The back doors, the hood and the boot do not open. There is some plastic details in the boot for the pack stuff but it's all untainted plastic and not as detailed as the Elite.

I was slightly disappointed but hey for $75 it's still a great model, I wouldn't be spending $150 or more from the scalpers on eBay for it though!
