'Doctor Who' Star Joins Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

Karen Gillan, who starred as Doctor Who’s companion for several seasons on the hit BBC show, is joining the cast of Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy.

The movie is barreling towards a late-June shoot in the U.K. with James Gunn behind the camera.

The movie is in casting mode, with Glenn Close joining the roll call earlier this week. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista lead the cast of Marvel's space adventure movie, which has Lee Pace and Michael Rooker as villains.

Details for Gillan's role were not revealed, although it is known she will play the film’s lead female villain.

The Scottish actress played companion Amy Pond in Doctor Who's fifth through the recently ended seventh series. The character was hugely popular and appeared in Doctor Who books, apps and video games.
"Lead female villain" you say...

Interesting.

Benicio Del Toro Takes Lead Role In Marvel’s ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

EXCLUSIVE: Benicio Del Toro has joined the killer cast of the James Gunn-directed Marvel Studios franchise launcher Guardians Of The Galaxy. They are keeping his role under wraps, but he’s playing a character that is built to be part of future Marvel films, which means he has signed a deal with options that put him into multiple movies.
So far, rumors for the role include...
- Groot [voice + motion capture]
- Ronan The Accuser
- Adam Warlock
- Thanos

Spoiler:
scratch
Up until now, this film has seemed so crazily ambitious that if Marvel pull it off, it could end up joining Star Wars & Star Trek to become The Three cinematic space epic franchises, but if this latest casting bit is true, then the film may be going from ambitious to ludicrously bloated with new ground to cover/explain/make work.

Spoiler:
If that's true - not overly impressed. So much rich Guardians history to choose from, and they go with something that happened 5 minutes ago. I say bring on Cosmo!

I'm loving the poster: http://www.comicus.it/images/stories/mc/2014/guofga_poster.jpg

Very old school sci-fi fantasy feel, like a 70's novel cover.  Cool

I went and saw this today and I gotta say i loved it. The whole setup and feel of the movie was amazing. I don't know a great deal about the GOTG but I do intend to find out a bit more. The effects were amazing and for me the soundtrack is the best I have heard in a long time (I even bought the physical CD because it looks so damn cool)
Overall the characters were an enjoyable mix and worked well together and for a character with limited dialogue Groot is definitely memorable and the by play with rocket Racoon is pretty funny.

Overall the movie is definitely up there with the best they have done so far in my opinion, and this is definitely not the last we will see The Guardians of the Galaxy.
P.S. Make sure you stay for the post credits scene.

Cool.

I wouldn't bother reading the current series, but if you're interested, read the previous series written by Abnett and Lanning.

Saw it, loved it (minus some minor nitpicks).

If you're planning on seeing it, and have access to an Imax theater, SEE IT AT IMAX.

You'd never know it (because it's not advertised) but the Imax version is unique, and features dynamic aspect ratio changes throughout the film (just like the Imax/Blu-ray version of the Dark Knight films).

The shifting aspect ratio REALLY enhances the film. When the action goes large, so does the screen. Very Happy
