Post by DroothR on Sat May 10, 2008 6:33 pm

I bought a macro lens for my camera this week, and had myself a debut test shoot with a couple of figures I had lying around. Very Happy

A desklamp with a bendy "arm", and a klunky, yellow flashlight.

I don't know where to buy proper studio lights... Sad

Thanks! Very Happy

If you can afford it, then DO IT! This thing is GREAT! I took some photos of my friend's "children" with it yesterday (below).

Here's a sample of my 2nd shoot with the lens.
  • L = A frog rescued from a banana crate.
  • C = The young, and wily Oscar.
  • R = The old and wise Miyagi.

The two bearded dragons were total pros. As soon as I set them up in front of the camera, they started posing. Cool

Cool, I'm pretty sure I have those. I've got a macro capable lens for my DSLRs, but I've never had the space to try it out - since the cabinets are now up this might be a project for next weekend.

I opened the (RevolTech) Dante figure yesterday and - in a surprise fit of inspiration - took a number of test photographs with a practical digital backdrop (my low-budget, digital version of rear-projection).

Unfortunately, the figure's left arm has a messed up joint just below the shoulder, so the arm falls off every time I move it. Not exactly what one wants in a figure that is built primarily for maximum posability.

Fortunately the test shoot turned out rather successfully for one so haphazardly executed, to the point where I think I will be making much more use of digital backdrops in future shoots.

Those are some really awesome pics.

I have a macro setting thankfully. I generally just use sun for lighting, which takes clear pics, but not exactly artistic.

I've been meaning to get some of the difussed (sp) spotlights that photographers use, they probably sell them in Big W or anywhere with a camera house.
