I don't suppose anyone has a spare Strobo?

Post by DroothR on Thu Mar 14, 2013 8:10 pm

I got up for the sale, was logged in early, but thanks to having to re-do the stupidly incoherent "Captcha" Strobo sold out before I was able to check out.

Looks like a <5 minute sellout. Sad

I don't suppose anyone managed to checkout and have a spare they might part with?

Reading various reports on The Org, it seems that the sale started 2 minutes late (that happened for me), and Strobo was sold out 2 minutes later. Mad

Which I think makes Strobo the fastest sellout of the line so far. Rolling Eyes

Woke up at 2 to try and order, it was gone.

I intended to nab 2 strobos, as well as a couple of random figures.

Missed Strobo, passed on the extra figures.

So much for early access. Another bad joke on mattys part, and no one is laughing.

Maaaaaaan.

Sad panda...

Sold out in 90 seconds apparently.

I've had a gut-full of Matty. Seriously, limit the damn thing to ONE per subscription. I see sellers on eBay listing this figure stating that they had 10 available!?!?!?!

I just don't get the reasoning on these sales.......if the line is in danger of collapsing due to numbers why limit the number of sales? Surely an extra 1000 units (I have no idea of the numbers) = profit
Why not make it a preorder and leave the window open for 24 hrs?
I guess they look at subscriptions, guess an on-the-day sales amount and then make 10% more than that number......for returns etc....

then not give a crap if it pisses off loyal customers or miss out on sales if they don't get that number correct

The big theory is they want to push subscriptions, which means they need these things to be worth money on the secondary market, which means resellers pick up subscriptions in bulk because there is a higher chance of them moving the more desired items at a higher pricepoint.

Thus Mattel can push this through at guaranteed profit and not be sitting on overstock they can't move and end up discounting or giving away (ie. Mer Man/Stratos/Sy-Klone...).

As for Strobo, remember they need stock for various conventions this year, and I'm sure anything remaining will be made available again later in the year. By then, the resale price through the year will be high so people (or more specifically, resellers) will log in to stock up again, thinking to make a profit. Mattel get rid of their stock and also increase incentive for people to subscribe and also purchase other items through the year if they're in a limited release window.

Some info from Fwoosh that might put your minds at ease:

VeeBee wrote:Or, the fact that they were originally planning to go to WonderCon this year, and ended up NOT going put the very small allotment from what they were going to take to the show available for Early Access. Considered in that light, the most they would have allotted for that show would have been a couple thousand units (at most) so the subber stampede would have expectantly crushed that inventory, which it did.

He will be available again in the fall at the two shows and on Matty in Nov/Dec, you can count on that.

Mine has shipped - but yes, they need to limit the quantities to 6 or less.

Got my Strobo today from The Good Dr… with Goat Man…..
Goatman is cool with a big F*&K off hammer to run into battle with….Strobo (as much as I like him) attacks his foes in a cape and underwear…..he might be handy if it's a sunny day or all they're doing is blasting energy attacks….being a human shield is about the most he can offer in a fight
