SDCC 2012 Exclusive announced

Post by Artistix on Sat Apr 28, 2012 6:37 am

Meet Vykron

Masters of the Universe Vykron ($30)

If clothes make the He-Man, then this pitch prototype for the 1982 lineup is destined to be the star of the MOTU 30th Anniversary celebration thanks to a choice of three outfits: barbarian, spaceman, and military warrior! You’ll get him in-package dressed as a barbarian only at SDCC , but you can find him here at MattyCollector.com after the show packed as a spaceman or military warrior (all three outfits are included regardless of where he’s purchased). Want to know more about this multi-purpose warrior? Set includes one “buck,” or figure, with three different outfits/helmets to interchange between space, military and barbarian looks. Check back for the history of Vykron, soon to be disclosed…

Lol @ people already figuring out it's cheaper to buy regular He-Man to display the extra armour pieces, rather than but this 3 times. Laughing

I'll buy one. Probably use the Barbarian for the most part.

Compared to Grayskull, Orko/Adam, He-Ro & Marlena this new exclusive is less than stellar IMO. But I'm sure some people will love it.

My god the people at Matty are full of themselves. They've completely ruined the 30th Anniversary Sub with their awful figure choices and now this clown is being trumpeted as being the "STAR" of this year's celebrations?? I wonder how many fans are really celebrating.

And with multiple He-Man figures aleady in most collections, you can imagine a lot of collectos won't be buying any additional figures to 'dress up'.

I really don't know how I feel about this one. I like the concept, hate the execution, but still wanna try and get one just just to see if there is something salvagable in that gear somehow? >_<

Added the Roger Sweet figures above.

Apparently Scott posted that "for the Barbarian figure, the hair and the helmet are one piece that is removable. This was done to allow the Space Helmet to slide over the head. There was not room in the budget for a third helmet-less head (with hair only).

And yes, the single piece with helmet and hair does look silly when not attached as does the head with no helmet on at all.

The Military head is a full piece that replaces the head in the mode."

It's funny though - if the proto from the 80's had gone into production, everyone would be saying 'Hey, cool, they've finally done Vykron!'. Not saying I am happy with the choice (Mantenna, Ram-Man and Modulok/Multi-Bot are higher on my list of SDCC-suitable figures than this dude, who isn't on the list at all) and I sure won't be getting three (despite getting both Queen Marlena and Captain Glenn, as well as 2 Trap Jaws, MAAs and Eternian Guards to display with all heads) - for me he's no more stupid than Molarr was.

I'm sure there would have been some copyright issues if they went with the "Mandalorian" mask.

Vykron's helmet looks like one of those cigarette ashtrays from the 70's where you would push down on the centre piece which 'spun' it open.

I really like this as an exclusive.

It's obscure, but fan service.

I have no interest in getting it personally, but that's what you want in an exclusive.

My favourite kind of exclusice - one I don't want!

In all seriousness, I think these original concept figures are a good idea for an exclusive. But, I'm not sure about the translation of the designs. The "barbarian" is definitely my favourite, although the helmet seems undersized.

The "tank" just scares me and the "spaceman" has lost a lot of his cool-factor with the re-worked design, especially the helmet (althought it is understandable why it was re-designed).

Vyrkon - Ultimate Eternian Champion
Real Name: Vyrkon

Fifty years before Prince Adam was born, Vyrkon the Warrior fought in the gladitorial arena of Lord Choloh, ruler of the Vine Jungle. Learning from each defeated opponent, he became a master of many combat techniques and weapons. As much a chapion as a showman, he would often dress in outlandish garb to rouse the crowd and show off his skills. In his final match, he fought against the great Gygor. Before a cheering crowd, the evil fighting gorilla ripped Vykron's body in half, at long last defeating the arena champion. Following this match, Gygor claimed not only the arena championship but rule of the Jungle itself, forcing Choloh to abdicate his throne. In life, Vykron was the greatest of Choloh's gladitorial warriors, fighting in any environment at any time.

So ... SDCC predictions anyone?

If I recall correctly, we'll be seeing the final "special guest" 30th Anniversary figure, the CAC 30th Anniversary figure, the remainder of 2012 and the first quarter of 2013 (including the sub-exclusive).

My "predictions" list is slowly morphing into my "want" list since I don't have a lot of knowledge about the mini-comic characters, Filmation-specific characters, NA characters or even the 200X characters. But, I'm thinking that some of the following have a decent chance of being revealed:

- Glimmer
- Sea Hawk
- Two-Bad
- Battleground Randor (either Filmation or 200X)
- Eldor
- Clamp Champ
- Castaspella
- Jitsu
- Mantenna
- Scorpia
- Rattlor

My No. 1 want is Glimmer. The core trio of POP really needs to be completed.

Visionaries with holograms? Strobo? Peek-a-blue? Gwildor?

My MOTU knowledge is pretty poor, even though the toys made up a large part of my childhood.

If anyone is curious on possible spoilers for the first quarter of 2013, Mattycollector has seemingly botched it like last year and leaked the list (http://www.mattycollector.com/store/matty/ContentTheme/pbPage.productsforsubs):

Spoiler:
January: Glimmer™

February: Clamp Champ™

March: Hydron™

Club-Exclusive Figure: King Miro™
