Smoking

Post by simmo on Wed Apr 23, 2008 5:02 pm

Well, I've been wanting to quit for a while. And on the weekend, I came down with a shocker of a cold. So, I haven't had a ciggie for 5 days now.

No, it's not a world record, but it's a bloody good start, and I'm not really feeling massive withdrawals...yet. Fingers crossed, this'll be it.

I found the best way to cut down was to involve yourself in an activity that required a decent lung workout - riding to work, playing soccer/basketball etc. Staying off the booze is another good way to get around cravings.

5 days is better than no days.

Yeah, the not drinking isn't going to happen in my industry...too many functions.

As soon as the cold dies down though, I'm actually going back to the gym. I need to lose about 15 kg by the time my play goes up in December.

I quit cold turkey five or so years ago after someone told me I had a smokers cough, I just decided not to buy anymore packs and put the money to something more useful, though the second part never really eventuated. I tried chewing gum a lot as well and avoided going outside with others at work for a while, using lame excuses like it was too cold etc. I think I put on a little bit extra weight at the time, but had lost it in a couple of months. Managed to sleep a lot better as well, although I have a friend who initially had the opposite happen when they quit. Best of luck.

My ex was a heavy smoker, till one day she decided she wanted to stop, on and off for a month, till her doctor told her citrus fruit will help.

Mandarins, apples, grapefruit, etc - the acid in the fruit will dull your cravings, its been 7 years. Told my missus and a few of my mates and all tried and quit for years now, takes a month and you dont want to know about em anymore, Hope it helps bud and goodluck.

One cigarette less is that extra time in the future to spend with your kids or loved ones - positive goal, positive reward. Man I sound like a old man.

Extra time = new hasbro ML release!!! LOL

Unless you want to be thought of as a loser. Think of something else in this case.

Habits in general are hard to kick.

Twice I've given up soft drink and had the will power to stay off it and just drink water/milk/OJ.

But try and ween me off cheese and pasta... no f'in way...

I'm down to just coke zero for soft drinks but it's really hard to break, the caffeine withdrawal headaches i've had are terrible.

Yeah, I don't drink coffee, so Coke gives me my caffeine fix...only on non-sugared cola now. Makes drinking scotch with it a little unusual, but it's not too bad.

Well losers with nice teeth and aren't diabetic maybe. Razz Of course the carbon dioxide in soft drinks does more harm than the sugar.
