Yo, help me out about Dragon Ball figures?

Post by TahmidN on Sat Apr 30, 2011 2:56 pm

Hey guys, so i was looking through a box i found and was delighted to see i had found all my childhood Dragon Ball Z/GT figures. My happiness soon turned to agitation as i realized how unarticulated they are. One Trunks figure i have, the only articulation is at the arms and thats is. So my question is, are there any super articulated Dragon Ball Z/GT figures around? (20 + points of articulation, like ML's even if it's bigger than 6 inch)

The ones I collected were pretty awesome, called teh hybrid style, but cost a fair bit back in the dayto import the lil buggers.
great sculpt and large roster!

If you get seriously into it I was contemplating selling them off, but not sure yet. I'll let ya know if you want if I do. =-)

My 9 year old brother is really into Dragonball Z at the moment and we were looking for some decent action figures.

Bandai and Jakks Pacific made a line of 5 inch figures that featured more articulation and interchangeable hands.

Here is a review by a guy on youtube.

So I know I'm a few months late to the party here, but I thought it'd be worth butting in. Have you considered Bandai's S.H. Figuarts line? They're easily more articulated than Marvel Legends, and have cool little tricks like an extending joint inside the torso to give more range of motion. They've got a bunch of accessories including swappable faces and hands, Picollo has a set of crossed arms that you can exchange with his regular ones. They fall slightly short of the the desired scale. The average height for them is 14cm, so they fall juuust short of 6" scale (Pictured).
The only problem is these get a bit pricey; you're looking at roughly $30 before shipping for each one and some can get more expensive if they're sold out. So far they've only released Picollo, Goku and Gohan and are currently making Vegeta (currently set for an exclusive and may cost up to $60 after middleman fees; there's talk of making it a general American release through Bluefin, Bandai's distributor in the US)
There's also Medicom's Real Action Heroes line. They're 1:6 scale (roughly 30cm) and have great articulation. The only problem is you're limited in choice between Picollo and Goku in Regular and Super Saiyan. The major issue with these guys is they have rubber muscles to give them a bulkier look without sacrificing articulation, the major problem with which being that they're incredibly prone to tearing. Because of this they're often discounted below $100 but I really wouldn't recommend it unless you were planning on keeping them in a fridge and never posing them.
Finally there's Bandai's MG Figurise (There's 50 different transliterations of this phrase) which is in 1:8 scale. These are also really articulated, and even have little features like bulging biceps when you bend the elbow. However, these are model kits and will need a good coat of paint to really bring out their potential so I'd probably recommend the Figuarts (pictured) instead. You're also limited to only Goku, once again in normal and SS flavours.

Sorry if this is utterly superfluous, but I guess it can't hurt to mention.
