2011 SDCC MotuC items revealed!

Post by DroothR on Fri Apr 29, 2011 4:48 am

The $25 item is Queen Marlena & Cringer.

Marlena has 2 heads, 2 bodies, 4 weapons, and a spacesuit helmet. Shocked

Cringer is an unarticulated blob. pale

The other MotUC related item is a PoP themed Polly Pocket 3-pack.

Polly pocket, not for me but cool for pop fans, happy with marlena and cringer, but the reveal was a farce by the sounds of it, motuc didn't get a mention.....

I might be over MOTUC. I have known this was coming for the last few months so the excitement of the reveal was not there.

I am hoping to get some excitement back from the SDCC reveals because I do like this line but now I think I am only getting them because I have a subscription

Holy shiz!!!

Bout time we got Marlena, though I'm sure many will be unhappy she is an exclusive. She looks very funky in her spacesuit.

Cringer is nice. Unarticulated...booo! But I can live with it.

The PoP Polly Pockets I will have to see in more detail.

This is what TG had to say:

"We filmed them but AOTS clearly did not air them.

The SDCC MOTUC item will be Queen Marlena. She will come with a sword, staff, Cringer (articulated at the head and tail) as well as an alternate head, space tunic with bubble helmet, riffle, gun belt and pistol to transform her from the Queen back into Captain Glen (or the other way around!)

She will be packed out as Queen Marlena at SDCC and as Captain Glenn on Mattycollector.com after the show. Both versions will have all the parts for both figures but each will have a bio unique to the pack out.

I'm sorry to hear AOTS did not show the footage we shot for this figure, but we'll have more details posted tomorrow (as well as images and a video changing the figure from Queen to Space explorer) posted tomorrow!"

**The rifle she includes is from the live action movie.

The Polly Pockets will have more movement than I had thought:

Tell me more about VOLTRON. The exclusive looks cool, but I think I'll try and hold out for Mattel's upcoming Voltron Classics for my Voltron fix.

Easy pass on the MOTU exclusives. I didn't grab King Randor and given Mattel's latest "figures will not necessarily be re-issued" stance, I'm not going to purchase Queen Marlena if there isn't some "guarantee" of eventually being able to also purchase King Randor.

Still, Queen Marlena does look cool. And nice to see Cringer as well. I wonder if the swappable "dress" is an indication of She-Ra V2.0 and possibly other future female figures (particularly the ladies of POP).

I have no interest in "Polly Pocket" POP figures.

Cheers.

Well, I'm looking forward to Marlena... and I'm kinda surprised that she's got as many accessories as she has. I pretty much expected a moulded piece of plastic with a swivel head, and mebbe an alternate butt for sitting on a throne with. Razz

Cringer will be kinda cool... shame he doesn't have more articulation maybe, but really it'll just be kinda nice to give Adam a cat that doesn't dwarf him completely. Very Happy

I don't see many people being that into them.

I will be buying a set for myself & a set for my niece. Perfect way to introduce her to the wonders of She-Ra! Very Happy

I stand corrected, that is too funny. The most popular thing customer wise gets the chop from the show What a Face

I thought that was odd. TG said they had no control over what went on the show, but you'd think he would have mentioned to Fro-girl (her MK name from memory) & her crew that MOTUC is a pretty important collector line.

Marlena is a decent figure and the two bodies/clothes is a good idea + cringer yeah he's ok...no real interest in displaying him anyway my long awaited battle cat won't allow it!.....let down on the 3 pack.... I would have prefered the 3 Orko type characters over polly pockets....they really shouldn't advertise a cool 3 pack to MOTUC collectors then release these.....

I love Marlena & Cringer!! Amazing stuff.
The Polly Pocket stuff is interesting... Cute... But most guys seem to hate the PoP girls already.. Is this really the way to promote them??

I guess a product like Polly Pocket may be a way to test the waters with MOTUC/POP to be launched at retail somewhere down the line?

Have to say that I've gone cold on MOTUC for a while, but the Marlena/Cringer pack has peaked my interest.

As for the POP (and WW/SG/BG) Polly in my Pocket packs, well, I've got a 5-yr old daughter who would go NUTS for these (big fan of all the characters), but given they ain't retail, I can't see me getting hold of them Sad

I'm a bit iffy on the interchangable garb for Marlena.... looks like it could be easily warped in package and then never sit right. :/

Cringer looks cool. Not fussed about the lack of articulation.

Re: Queen Marlena

Not a fan of the great big "split" up the back of both the regal dress and the astronaut suit. Surely splits down each side would have been a touch more discrete?

Or given that the base figure is super-poseable, perhaps with some larger than normal "arm holes" and slightly flexible/expanding plastic material, the dress and suit could have both been "full" pieces that slipped onto the figure?

And $30.00 for that Voltron! Seems a bit over-priced for a 6" action figure that is probably going to be repainted and released at retail for less eventually. Also, I think he comes in an "electronic box", so it may not even be available down under (for the same reason that the original King Grayskull was not available due to the packaging).

Cheers.

dont mind the marlena at all. The split at back works better for me IMO only cuz side splits tend to warp a little a lot of the time, and it wouldbe noticeable, however I dont usually have the back of the figures facing forward so I think its a good thing. =-) Kinda wish cringer had more than an articulated tail though. Maybe nice to do the 'oh no he's about to make me into that Cat again' pose or sleepign LOL.

Dont care at all for those pocket trash things Wink

Any clearer pics of the face of M though?
