Bolo's Collection

Post by BoloMusashi on Mon Apr 21, 2008 10:34 am

Just a placeholder for my collection pics. Need to assemble the Detlof cabinets I nabbed from IKEA on Saturday afternoon - $99 a pop which is $100 cheaper than their original price.

***

Here are some really quick pics. My light tent/cube arrived this afternoon so I'm hoping to take some nicer pics of the dioramas and mini-busts etc. Also trying to chase down some acrylic risers to optimise the shelf space.

They're priced at $99 now - I paid the old price of $199 a pop for my first two early last year. Hoping to assemble the last cabinet tonight and take pics.

Added some pics. Some of my collection is displayed while other pieces are either packed away or on my desk waiting for the remaining cabinet to be assembled.

Thanks lads.

The Sideshow dioramas are really amazing and are my favs of my displayed pieces. I'm sure this will change after I get my Premium Format Captain America out on display. Hoping to add another cabinet tomorrow so items will probably shuffle around.

I like the way you categorise them, ie outer space figs, avengers, spidey etc.

Fourth cabinet up and running

Post by BoloMusashi on Sun Apr 27, 2008 6:32 pm

Finally assembled the fourth cabinet. Looking at the upcoming stuff from Hasbro, Mattel and Sideshow, I have a feeling I'll need one or two more cabinets.

Started using some acrylic risers to maximise shelf space. Hoping to take some up close pics of the statues soons.

Thanks for posting the completed pics bolo. I'm thinking of changing over my shelving to glass cabinets as well.

IMO, glass cabinets are the way to go.
The Detlofs are sturdy and when assembled properly can hold around 6kgs per glass shelf - I've seen people pack more onto a single shelf but I wouldn't risk it. The Detlofs are available from IKEA for $99 each (half what I paid a year or so back). Thinking about downgrading my current desk to fit more in Very Happy

Re: Bolo's Collection

I've got a couple of the Deltofs. Think it says somewhere on the packaging for the Detolf how much max weight each shelf can hold.

I also copied their design exactly and made my own cabinet (shown below). My one is 95cm wide instead of the 40cm wide Ikea version, To make this I actually bought a deltof and used all the bits (sides hinges shelf supports etc etc) then put on a wider door and back and timber top and base. The lights are from Ikea as well.

The reason I did all this was because I wanted a bigger cabinet and this was by far the cheapest and easiest way to do it. Plus it matches in nicely with the Ikea ones, cause it's basically the same, just wider.
