Mattel - Lion Voltron Classics

Post by Xenaphobia on Tue Mar 22, 2011 8:13 am

From actionfigurepics.com:

"ALSO, though they had nothing on display, I was able to ask one of the Mattel reps about the new Voltron Classics line. I learned that it is coming in about 5-6 months, each lion will be around $30 each, with diecast parts, spring actions, articulated figures that fit in each lion, sold on MattyCollector.com, and fully combined into Voltron is over 2-3 feet! Also, each will come with a part to build the blazing sword!

They also mentioned that the classic Voltron toys will only be on Matty Collector at first, but once the new series toys hit retail for a little bit, they plan to start mixing the two at retail."

Consider me EXCITED! I think Mattel have done a good job with MOTUC and Ghostbusters figures (if not the distribution method) and I'm hopeful they've followed a similar approach with Voltron Classics. While it sounds like it will be expensive to assemble Voltron ($150.00 plus shipping), it does sound like the final figure will be an improvement on the current "Masterpiece" Voltron which retails for $150.00.

Now I just need to figure out where I can fit a 2-3 foot tall Voltron!

Cheers.

I'm somewhat excited, but I'll reserve final judgement until I see them....

Thats awesomely cool news!
Ive held off on getting a modernised version of Voltron. I have the clunky 80's version which is great for nostalgia but not the best looking toy.

I hear bad things about Matty though, hope its not too hard to get our hands on them

Yeah, I re-watched quite a bit of Thundercats recently & it was awesome!

My best friend as a kid loved Voltron. He had all the figures & stuff.

I have to say there is little chance I won't buy these.

Ah, the 80's. cheers

hey guys, just be aware if you bought this sub that Digital River still sucks.

A week or so ago Matty posted on Facebook to update your credit card details by calling DR if they have changed since you bought the sub.

I changed my card details and my shipping address on the site AND called them, lucky I did as they had my updated card but not my address.. so they "fixed" that.

So I get an email saying my Voltron sub has shipped, but no debits in my account... weird.

I check my old account and there it is PLUS an overdraft fee because it's an old account I no longer use.

So now I'm wondering if they even shipped them to the right address...

Good luck!

It sucks that Mattel makes purchasing their very cool toys so very difficult.

Thanks, called them again and they assure me that both card and address are now changed... we'll see, if they haven't I'm going to cancel all my subs

It sucks hey, if I didn't like their product so much I would have been long gone!

Its amazing how many problems these guys can have. Seriously. Sorry to hear they are being painful!

So far it seems mine was charged and shipped, but then again, I'm still waiting for other stuff from them in MOTUC world so hey, its a lottery. I hate that I love the lines they sell so much cuz i would be on the cancel bandwagon as well lol.

Did anyone get that blazing sword superposable? looks kinda neat, while not necessary, it might be good to nab with an order someday

I just ordered it this month (together with MOTUC Fisto). It should be here in 6-8 weeks!

I really wanted the giant-sized Classics, but it was just too much money and actually a little too big for my taste.

It does pose an interesting but hopefully surmountable problem, the size of that thing.

I keep picturing each lion the size of a small shoe ! lol.

So far the only thing I wish they had done was the mid arm swivel, I understand why it wasn't used (pilot gets in the way of potential mechanism) but it would have been nice. Its kinda the reason why i was thinking of the superposeable version !

Still super excited though ! Funnily enough, a lot of it is for the action figures themselves! I would like to make a castle of lions with gimmicks but knowing me I'll never get around to it ! lol
