That was the plan, and it was suppsed to be fourth quarter, but not much has been said since, so who knows whether it'll still make the schedule for this year or not. I think they'll be eager to make sure it does though.

I doubt we'll hear anything more about it until SDCC though...

It's very much confirmed. It's coming.

Mattel keep insisting that it wont necessarily be the Battle Ram, but from recent interviews with The Four Horsemen, it does sound like it likely will be the Battle Ram.

The Battle Ram was my first vehicle I owned, so I'd love for it to be the first Classic's vehicle! The Sky Sled was the best part! I'm also looking forward to the Wind Raider and The Talon Fighter!! (I hope both of these will fit at least 2 figures each..)

Yeah I love the battle ram, but if it is first up, this will have been an expensive year, with the guards and the battle ram, as I'd have to get at least 4 to match my vintage collection!!!

I hope that sometime down the line they do a re-release of just the Sky Sled, maybe in different decos.

I don't need more than one Battle Ram, but a few Sky Sleds would be cool.

I read somewhere that the animal head on the Sky Sled will be a separate piece so they can swap it out and make the evil warrior version of the Sky Sled.. I think Emiliano said it at the org forums...

That'd be both a cool and a clever move. That way you could get an Evil Warriors version, a Horde version, and a Snake Men version, maybe even a Great Rebellion version as well. More core parts re-use for matty, with only color scheme and head design differences needed, and more vehicles for us. Win win.

Hope it happens.

*sigh*

At this rate, we're going to run out of MotU items by 2013 for sure.

Surely they must be banking on Filmation licenced characters toward the end of the line, or else it's just PoP & NA Classics for the last half of the line. silent

Sad

What the hell are they doing?

I don't see how, just going by the original MOTU line of released figures alone there's still:

Thunder Punch He-Man
Flying Fists He-Man
Laser Power He-Man
Ram Man
Mekaneck
Fisto
Snout Spout
Extendar
Rio Blast
Rokkon
Stonedar
The Sorceress
Clamp Champ
Rotar
Gwildor

Dragon Blaster Skeletor
Laser Light Skeletor
Terror Claws Skeletor
Kobra Khan
Jitsu
Two-Bad
Spikor
Stinkor
Ninjor
Twistoid
Blade
Saurod
Blast Attack

Mosquitor
Dragstor
Mantenna
Modulok
Multi-Bot
Horde Trooper
Buzz Saw Hordak

Tung Lashor
Sssqueeze
Snake Face
Rattlor

And that's just from the released figures from back in the day. Even if you take away the 7 He-Man, Skeletor and Hordak variants, that's still 32 different characters left, not counting minicomics, concept characters, or any other sources they can also draw motu characters from.

Which I really feel they should have been doing more from the start.

So far they've made/announced 31 MotU figures, 1 NA figure, and 3 PoP figures (not counting oversized items).

That puts us almost half way through MotU already, with still 27 NA figures, and 23 PoP figures (counting vintage Catra & the Star Sisters) left to go.

I know that I may be in the minority, but I'd very much like for the line to cover all of the NA & PoP figures, and rather Mattel not save them for last, and have the line potentially fold after they've exhausted the majority of the MotU figures (ie. the most popular ones) too early.

Re: 2011 MotUC schedule

Post by Sledge Hammer! on Sun Apr 03, 2011 7:11 am

Out of the, I think, 28 NA figures released back in the day, 8 of them were variants, and one character has already been done, so that only leaves 19 different characters that they can actually make.

New Adventures released figures:

Battle Punch He-Man
Thunder Punch He-Man
Missile Armor Flipshot
Spin Fist Hydron
He-Man
Artilla
Flipshot
Hydron
Kayo
Nocturna
Sagitar
Spinwit
Tuskador
Vizar

Battle Blade Skeletor
Disk of Doom Skeletor
Hook 'Em Flogg
Too-Tall Hoove
Skeletor
Butthead
Flogg
Hoove
Karatti
Lizorr
Optikk
Quake
Slushhead
Staghorn

Likewise, with Princess of Power, you have:

Bubble Power She-Ra
Starburst She-Ra
She-Ra
Angella
Bow
Castaspella
Double Trouble
Flutterina
Frosta
Glimmer
Kowl
Loo-kee
Mermista
Netossa
Peekablue
Perfuma
Spinerella
Sweet Bee

Scratchin Sound Catra
Shower Power Catra
Catra
Entrapta

So again, that's 22 releases back in the day. Of these 3 have already been done (She-Ra, Bow, and the upcoming Catra), another four are variants, and the kind of variants that are unlikely to be made at that, and Kowl and Loo-Kee are likely to be pack-ins, ala Zoar and Screeech. So really that only leaves 15 characters to be made, likely spread over 13 releases (again with Kowl and Loo-Kee likely pack ins).

So, again just based on the original releases, same as with MotU above, if you add NA and PoP together that's 32 potential upcoming releases, exactly the same as the number of unannounced MotU vintage figures still to be done. In other words from here on out they could release 6 vintage motu character figures a year, and 6 figures taken from either vintage PoP or NA releases, and still maintain the balance just fine, and get through all three licenses at roughly the same time. And if that is all they did, you'd still be looking at just over 5 years worth of releases.

The fact that so far this year, up to september, we have had exactly 5 vintage MotU figures announced (not counting variants and the large scale Megator) - King Hiss, Sy-Klone, Clawful, Man-E-Faces and Leech, and only three months worth of figures left to announce, I can't see any evidence of burning through the vintage ranks too quickly at all at this point. In fact they are pretty much paced out to about where they should be at, vintage motu wise.

So actually when you consider that they are continually also adding in minicomics characters, concept characters, style guide characters, 200X characters, and so on as well, I think they're doing fine so far at spreading things out, all told. In fact if anything is taking away slots from PoP and NA, it's these additions more than the vintage MotU ones, which again are coming out at about the rate they should be considering the overall long term plans.

Now I do admit that so far NA could clearly use more love, and hopefully there will be another NA release this year to start redressing that, but there's still room on the schedule over the coming years for NA to happen and pick up more release slots and start burning through those characters, even more so since they expanded the planned for end date. And as far as PoP goes, I don't see much danger of fans missing out any of the major previously released characters in the long run at all, a couple of PoP figures a year and they are there, unless PoP figures sell so badly it turns matty off the idea of making them all. And at the rate Classics sell, I just don't see a lot of danger of that happening either, even if PoP in general isn't quite as popular as it's MotU big brother happens to be.

I'm not sold on BG Teela... not a fan of the breast plates. Seems too much of a "high school kid drawing placing boobs too high on the chest" for me. I'm not saying have mega cleavage (although I wouldn't complaint), but it just looks weird. Otherwise, I'd probably get her (even though I skipped Vikor).
