NECA Toy Fair 2011 reveal thread

Post by DroothR on Sat Feb 12, 2011 6:54 am

I know it's not Toy Fair yet, but NECA's made some early reveals!

Yep, they're up now.

Oooh, Tech Noir and gargoyle sunglasses Terminators from the original film...now where's Reese already?

Hopefully their Duke Nukem turns out better than their awful Sam Fisher Splinter Cell figure did...

Awesome, Terminator figures. Smile

I wonder if the Gremlins figures will be to scale with the other NECA movie figures or be huge like the old ones. Would grab an in scale Gizmo.

Duke Nukem's head seems a little, I don't know, squashed or something to me. Other than that not too bad.

The new old school Freddy figs aren't bad, but they lack that wow factor for me. Five years ago I would have been excited for them, now, not so much.

Not a big fan of the nutso headsculpt look on the scarface figures. Would have been nice if one of the figures had a more 'vanilla' head sculpt, like the classic poster, then the 'crazy' version would have been a good companion piece, but without a vanilla version I'm not as interested personally.

Looks like they are really going to town on the Gremlins pieces, though with a similar (?) scale to the old ones, which is good news for those that purchased the originals, bad news for those that wanted tiny, in scale sets made. They look good though. Spider Gremlin is pretty epic, Rambo Gizmo is fun, and who doesn't like the flasher gremlin?

Iggy Pop I'm not so sold on, even as a big fan. I dunno, he just lacks something, and looks closer to an unrotted zombie than an unmolested Iggy...though some may say that particular line is pretty thin anyway. :p

The Arnie Terminators are again pretty damn impressive, but the T-1000 is still only so-so likeness wise, though the 'donut-head' is better in that regard than the motorcycle cop version.

The Predators look good, as ever. Iron Maiden's Eddie should please most fans, Borderlands Captrap is a little underwhelming, though accurate looking enough all the same. The Bioshock and Gears of War figures continue to be quite well done too.

Now, here's hoping that the final release versions look as good, as that is still something that tends to let the side down for Neca far too often in my book...

Overall, underwhelming reveals from NECA. Sure, the Gremlins and Mogwai look cool, but really, why the emphasis on a movie long past its hey-day?
