A shame that we now know that the Skrulls aren't in it.

Word is the invading force is something new, created specifically for the film. Neutral

The trailer looks pretty good overall, but strangely enough it didn't do anything to hype me for the film.

Not that I've read any spoilers etc, IMO it takes the excitement out seeing a movie if you know too much, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's Loki and his frost giants or something like that. I kinda find it hard to piece together how they could involve both the Skrulls and Loki. As for my excitement levels for the film - classic Avengers (Hulk, Thor, Cap and Iron Man), massive explosions, Whedon ... I'm really looking forward to it. Sh*t seeing Cap hop over cars etc in the city battle had me going.

From a screen capture I saw the other day, the invading army forces kinda resemble Annihilus' species from the Negative Zone....

The new (and apparently final?) trailer.

Please note: This trailer is from Marvel's UK YouTube channel, and thus has the UK title, "Avengers Assemble". We are still getting "The Avengers" in Australia.

So has anyone seen it yet? Whats the verdict?
I cant see it until Saturday week.
A friend said "9 out of 10 and it sets the benchmark for any future Super hero movie". And he isnt even a comic fan, just a movie fan

Re: Marvel's The Avengers (2012)

Post by DroothR on Thu Apr 26, 2012 2:15 pm

There's only the one mid-credits extra scene.

Supposedly the one day of extra shooting a fortnight ago was to add one change to a particular scene, but no-one knows just what that change was.

For me, I thought it was great. Smile

Defintely a 9/10 film for me. Cool

There was one thing that really seemed stupid though:
Spoiler:
Toward the end, when Loki dropped his spear on Stark Tower, he just left it, and never once made play to get it back.

Neutral

I mean, this thing was linked to the Tesseract, the source of his power on Earth, and the only thing that could undo his plans, yet he drops it, and then conveniently forgets about it, giving The Avengers the one thing they need to stop him.

No

Not only does that make no sense, but the climax would prove even MORE exciting if the team came together to take the spear from Loki, after figuring that using it is their only chance to stop him.
That right there would have made for a 10/10 film.

Saw last night. I wasn't that enthralled with it. I'd give it a 7/10 for mine. The Hulk scenes later in the film were pretty funny.

The wife loved it, due to the Joss Whedon tone. I've never really liked his humour, so that tinge didn't do it for me.

Also, on the drive in, she told me the new Dark Knight Rises trailer would be paired with the film after it's American release, which kinda bummed me because I would have liked to have seen that instead of GI Joe and the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp vampire trailer (mixed in between a million advertisements in a half hour block... seriously, that shit is out of hand).

Awesome movie, want to see it again already but the cinema is just way too overpriced these days, will wait until it's released on DVD which is only a few months these days (remember when it would take years?)

I was disappointed at one thing:

Spoiler:
Agent Coulson dieing, I really liked the character and he was offed pretty needlessly imo, I guess he did serve as revenge fodder for the characters and did serve his purpose in that he tied the characters/movies together but sheesh

Saw it last night with the GF and loved it. I was actually surprised by the positive reactions from the standard punter. I only saw one teaser during the credits, so it would be nice to confirm if there is a second one when I take the old man.

I was a bit worried with the run time - mostly that it could be too long for the average Joe. I didn't like the casting of Maria Hill, I'm a big "How I Met Your Mother" fan so I'm always going to see Robin up there. CGI for the Hulk was fantastic.

It's ok , very entertaining but the movie is way too long. I just did not like Cap's suit not iconic enough. I guess there will be a part 2 if you have watched after the credits scene Hint: A character who has a dead lover that battles the Surfer. For now let's wait for Iron Man 3 shot in China and Mandarin is the main vilian.

Ben Kinglsey has reportly signing on to play the villain, so unless they do another Joey Forman ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlSFGkyTWDo ) I can't see how the Mandarin could possibly be in IM3.

i didn't like the casting of Maria Hill
Have to disagree with you Bolo. I think Bruce Mcavaney is best suited to convey my thoughts on her casting..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RB7afmx54k
