Thanks simmo, it's pretty dire out Toowoomba way and it's getting worse here in Brisbane, they've evacuated all the workers out of the city.

I'm currently holding my breath because our place is only a few houses from the Brisbane river, and they are expecting the wave from Toowoomba and a king tide sometime tonight!

Yeah good luck mate. Hope you and all the other boardies living in flooded or flood risk areas come through the other side of this thing okay, and with your property intact.

The downstairs area of my home flooded a couple years back when a major pipe burst up the hill from us, can get very nasty very quickly, and that was under half a meter outside at it's peak, and just above shoelevel inside at it's worst. That was bad enough, and did enough damage, but that's nothing compared to what folks are going through with these floods, it just boggles the mind how high some of the waters have been getting. So again, here's hoping you guys pull through okay with minimal (or better yet no) problems.

Good luck dude, I'm covered where I am no where near a river or anything
The amount of water coming down in just scary
The talk of the water going higher than the 74 flood is scary

I went back to work on Monday and did not go in to work this morning due to the amount of rain that we have had at home. I was contacted by my boss and advised that the call centre had been closed and all staff sent home. I have been advised that we will be closed tomorrow and probably won't get back into building until possibly Friday/ Saturday(located on coronation drive directly across the road from Brisbane river). I am personally finding it very frustrating as I work for an big insurance company in the claims department and all I want to do is get in there and help our customers.
At home we did move to higher ground as local area was under threat however the river peaked and is now falling. I am happy that I was with my wife and daughters and able to keep them safe

To all our QLD board members stay safe and stay up to date with what is happening.

Yeah best wishes to all for over here in the west where we've had bugger all rain this year, hard to grasp the amount of water moving. thought it was poor form from Ch7 showing the two people trapped in the white 4WD over and over each day..... then explaining they aren't equipped to do rescues....3 days on they say "we found out that they are ok"...then they show footage of the two sitting on the roof of the car... footage they've clearly had for 3 days......way to sensationalise... disappointing

Our thoughts are with all the affected QLDers. Lets hope that everyone is safe.
Obviously people are the most important thing here but if you can, make sure you get your collectables high and dry as insurance probably wont cover them and it will be near impossible to find and replace everything.

Things are just looking truly nightmarish there now. Heartbreaking stuff. Again my thoughts are sincerely with all our boardies who are currently living through this water bound catastrophe.

Re: Queensland Floods

Post by Mahzian on Thu Jan 13, 2011 2:17 pm

Was able to get back home today and although no power we were extremely lucky and didn't get any damage, only a few houses down the street and they are fully submerged to the roof!

We will be helping out with the clean-up over the next few days after the water subsides but we did spot a dumped cash register in a non-flooded park and talk of some cars broken into so it appears everyone doesn't have the community spirit, pretty disappointing.

Thanks for all the well wishes guys, I hope fellow brisbane collectors were also lucky!

Looters truly are the scum of the earth.

Glad to hear you and yours came through it all okay Mahzian, as you say, hopefully any other boardies affected did as well.

Hopefully it's people breaking into their own cars due to lost keys etc. but that would be too far fetched. Scum unfortunately always rises in these sort of scenarios.
