So, "Uncle George" has done it again.

The Blu-ray editions of all 6 films have MORE controversial changes.

The 2 most contentious leaked so far is Vader screaming "NOOO" when he turns on The Emperor, and now the Ewoks have human eyes, and blink.

Sad

I'm not going to be watching the OT on Blu-Ray anyway. That's what my DVD copies are for. I'm just in this for the extra features.
Though they almost seemed to be scraping bottom of the barrel for those when I read they were including all the "must see" spoofs found on other shows. :/

Exactly what I was thinking......some serious reversing and manoeuvring required for R2 to position himself like that behind that "new" rock.

I can't watch any of the revisions as they are, and I give you two reasons:
One: ESB: Luke kicks Vader over a ledge and the old "ARGH!" noise I love so much has been replaced by some Kiwi sounding rubbish.
Two: ROTJ: End scene no longer plays the Ewok song. Not cool.

Bonus round is I hate all the CG characters randomly added everywhere.

If the films end up being released indivdually in the future, I'll probably pick up EpIII, but I certanly can't imagine buying these as sets.....there's just too many unwatchable components in each of these films now. Jar Jar in EpI, the droid factory in EpII, Greedo shooting first in EpIV, Boba Fett's kiwi accent in EpV, Sebastian Shaw being replaced in EpVI are merely the "highlights" that ensure I won't be buying the BD versions of these films. I've no doubt I'd end up putting my foot through my TV if I had to watch these episodes (with yet more banal changes) in their entirety. Sad

I may be happy if the new eyes are Steve Buscemi's. That goes for every character. Like Amidala:

Re: Star Wars on BluRay.......ho hum......

Post by DroothR on Thu Sep 01, 2011 10:57 am

Spoiler:
From: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/10908395-post2121.html
Watched "A New Hope" only so far, and:

-blue 'haze' is still there on the Star Destroyer engines in opening shot.
-the alarm klaxons are different in the opening scene. It's not like any version I know of. It's more subtle.
-blue-tinted walls from 2004 are now properly white again.
-the scene with R2 and 3P0 on the planet's surface still suffers from the fading color saturation from 2004, where the sand and sky's color goes from natural to near-colorless, to oversaturated, all slight, so it's unchanged.

-Yes, there are indeed inconsistent rocks hiding R2.
-Yes, that stupid scream (what the hell is a krayt dragon anyway? ) is there.
-the Han / Greedo scene is the same as 2004 in terms of the effects work done to it, but in this version a few frames were cut from the beginning to make it as sudden as the original, so they still "shoot each other".
-Jabba's scene was not improved at all.

-On board the Falcon, Luke's saber is inconsistent. It starts off blue-tinted instead of green, but it's sort of a turquoise since it wasn't a full-on fix. Occasionally it's white, occasionally it's slightly green-tinted. Nothing was done to the blade itself in terms of new effects.

-Darth Vader's hand gesture when he stopped talking before the "terminate her immediately" line is still there.
How the hell does THAT go unfixed for all this time when it's probably THE most obvious goof since the film's original release?

-Tarkin's dialogue is no longer inconsistent in terms of clarity, the line "then name the system!" from before which was dull is very clear here. At the same time, some lines spoken later inside the trash compactor are both clipped (Han's "look I had everything under control" and that argument) and dull, while subsequent lines later in the scene are clear.

-The lightsaber duel sees improvements to Obi-Wan's saber blade for only a few shots, while Vader's is unaltered. It's not pink anymore, but does come a little close on occasion.

When Obi-Wan's saber completely fizzles out in one shot, just as before it has NOT been fixed.
The glow-tipped rod of his prop saber blade is still there.

-Compare / contrast: The Alderaan explosion is very vivid in color, while the Death Star explosion is colorful for about 2 seconds, then becomes completely colorless, probably as a means of hiding that strange blue-tinted 'edge' of the explosion added to the 2004 version. The edge is still there, just colorless.

Sampled the other two but haven't watched them all the way through and the other changes are indeed there, like Vader's "no" and so on.
So much for going in and correcting mistakes.

It looks like George was more concerned with adding unnecessary crap than fixing errors. What a shame...

I just read that article and was wondering....did George really say that? Sure, people will say that he's the copyright holder, but in this speech, he states the PUBLIC are the copyright holders. It is such a shame that as an admirer of the OT, I have no capacity to watch them with today's media devices (DVD or BD), instead can only view them on LD or VHS. The original form of all films should be preserved because these prints represent 'moments' in time.

If George provided HQ copies of the Theatrical Releases, he could then go off and do an infinite amount of revisions and amuse himself no end - without impacting the rest of us.

I was so on the verge of pre-ordering these. Now I'm watching an eBay auction for the OT Limited Edition DVDs with the LD transfers on the Special Features instead.

I just want the extras in this box set - Why doesn't he release a special features boxset them seperately they would sell bucket loads of that set.
I am pissed off that I have to buy a shit set of movies that I already own and will never watch just to get the special features.
