2010 OzFigurama Toy Awards - WINNERS ON PAGE 2

Post by Jor-El on Mon Nov 15, 2010 7:35 am

Hi everyone

It's back for another year. Time for you all to reflect upon the past year and choose the standouts of what has been a great 2010.

This is the 4th awards held by our community (which has transitioned from OzFigures through Figurama and now OzFigurama). 2005 was the inaugural awards, with further awards held in 2006 and 2009. If you want to view 2009's awards, check out the thread here.

Some rules/FAQ for you all:

- How do I vote?
From the categories below, simply name what you think was the best toy in a 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice format. Your first choice is awarded 3 points. Your second choice 2 points. Your third choice 1 point. These will be collated with all other votes and the highest scoring toy in each category, wins.

- How do I submit a vote?
Simply email me at ofta2010@iinet.net.au and I'll tally your votes for the categories you have voted for.

- How long do I have to vote?
Voting is open from now and will run until January 7, 2011. I will tally the votes and post the awards soon after. The aim is to post the awards on Australia Day.

- Why should I vote?
Because I said so. Seriously, its fun and you can be immortalised a couple of categories.

- Do I have to vote in every category?
Ideally, yes. But you may have not have interest in all categories. But remember, every vote counts!

- Do I have to vote for 3 toys in each category?
Ideally, yes. Every point counts. If you're really stuck, do as best you can, but do try and get a 3-2-1 out.

- I have an idea that would add to this. What should I do?
Send me a PM, or better yet, email me (ofta@iinet.net.au). If it's a good idea, I'd love to hear it. Bear in mind I'm trying to keep the categories simple and easy to vote on, and as iconic as possible. Some ideas may be better suited for the Custom Award section.

So, the categories are as follows:

TOY OF THE YEAR
What figure released this year do you believe should be immortalized as a plastic god? Or metal god? Or whatever else they make our goodies out of…
1st CHOICE:
2nd CHOICE:
3rd CHOICE:
PREVIOUS WINNERS: 2009 – DX-01 Dark Knight Joker (Hot Toys); 2006 - Masterpiece-04 Convoy (Takara); 2005 - Marvel Legends series 10 BAF Sentinel (Toy Biz)

LINE OF THE YEAR
No, this is not a stand-up quip of the year award. What line of toys has been the best in 2010, producing win after win (even if there may have been some fail in between) all year?
1st CHOICE:
2nd CHOICE:
3rd CHOICE:
PREVIOUS WINNERS: 2009 – Masters of the Universe Classics (Mattel); 2006 and 2005 - Marvel Legends (ToyBiz)

COMPANY OF THE YEAR
They’re making millions off of us each year, so why not tribute them with an award? Ok, so maybe they’ve been releasing some damn fine product, too.
1st CHOICE:
2nd CHOICE:
3rd CHOICE:
PREVIOUS WINNERS: 2009 – Mattel; 2006 and 2005 - ToyBiz (now Marvel Toys)

ART-BASED FIGURE (COMIC/ARTWORK/GAMING/MEDIA CGI) OF THE YEAR
Someone’s drawn a character, whether it be with ink or with pixels, so what better way to immortalize it, or at least cash in on its popularity, than by having a collectable rendition? Some are cute, some are cuddly, some just look way too anatomically incorrect, but if they’re cool, we want them. So now, go vote for them.
1st CHOICE:
2nd CHOICE:
3rd CHOICE:
PREVIOUS WINNERS (ART-BASED): 2009 – Player Select Dead Space Isaac Clark in Unitology Suit, SDCC Exclusive (NECA)
PREVIOUS WINNERS (COMIC-BASED): 2006 - Marvel Legends Wal*Mart Exclusive Giant Man BAF (Toy Biz); 2005 - Marvel Legends series 10 BAF Sentinel (Toy Biz)
PREVIOUS WINNERS (VIDEO GAME-BASED): 2006 - Street Fighter Round 4 Akuma (SOTA Toys); 2005 - award not held

REALITY-BASED FIGURE (MOVIE/TV/SPORT/MUSIC PERSONALITIES) OF THE YEAR
I’m pretty sure we may be breaking one of the Commandments, but I’ll leave that discussion to the theologians amongst us. Because, come on, who can resist awesomely detailed representations of our favourite celebrities in action figure form? I still dream of somehow, some way, getting a figure in Alan Alda’s early M*A*S*H-period likeness…
1st CHOICE:
2nd CHOICE:
3rd CHOICE:
PREVIOUS WINNERS (REALITY-BASED): 2009 – Tied award – Terminator 2 Pescadero Escape T-800 (NECA) and DX-01 Dark Knight Joker (Hot Toys)
PREVIOUS WINNERS (MOVIE-BASED): 2006 - Lord of the Rings Epic Scale Balrog (NECA); 2005 - Fantastic Four Series 1 Invisible Woman (Toy Biz)
PREVIOUS WINNERS (TV-BASED): 2006 - Transformers Masterpiece MP-04 Convoy (Takara); 2005 - Master of the Universe Mini-Statues Clawful (NECA)

LARGE SCALE ITEM (BEAST/VEHICLE/PLAYSET) OF THE YEAR
A new category inspired by Gevaudin’s desk area at work, this is one that I don’t know how I’ve missed over the years. There’s not as much as there used to be, but there are still some amazing larger scale items being produced. And what I’m referring to are the large beasts that your figures ride or battle against, the sweet rides they cruise around in, and the dioramic settings they can call home. Ok, so I just want another category that Battle Cat will probably win. (Please note: This award is not to be confused with high-end pieces (the next category) such as Hot Toys figures or statues/busts of characters).
1st CHOICE:
2nd CHOICE:
3rd CHOICE:
PREVIOUS WINNER: First time this award is held.

HIGH-END PIECE OF THE YEAR
So who isn’t half tempted to sell off their He-Man, Marvel Legends, Transformers and Star Wars collections just to own one awesome collectable that costs us at least a three figure sum? Maybe it’s a diorama statue… maybe it’s a 1/12th scale figure with amazing likeness… or maybe it’s a bust or weapon that just ties the room together. Whatever it may be, and whether you can afford it or not, there’s probably something out there you want. And if you can’t afford it, you can’t help but dream about it.
1st CHOICE:
2nd CHOICE:
3rd CHOICE:
PREVIOUS WINNER:DX-01 Dark Knight Joker (Hot Toys)

CUSTOM AWARD
I know you are all creative and brilliant. So I want to honour one of you in this category awarded by the judge’s decision (me). Think of an award (and winner) in whatever kind of category you see fit to create. It can be serious or can be hilarious (or if you are some sort of insane genius, it could be both). But whatever you do, don’t leave this section blank! And I promise I won’t pick my own entry. I swear.
PREVIOUS WINNER: 2009 - Toys of the Decade: Marvel Legends (submitted by board member NiteOwl).

BIGGEST PAIN OF 2010
It’s supposed to be a fun hobby, right? Yeah, tell that two me after I saw Battle Cat slip through my fingers in the wee hours of the morning because something else in my cart soldout first. Gah! Alright, maybe it’s not a moment of rage that has raised your ire, but perhaps it’s something simple, like a change in packaging design combined with your OCD that ruins your MOC collection. Or maybe it’s just that Toys R Us never stock past series 14 in the WWE Classic Superstars line.
PREVIOUS WINNER: 2009 - Mattel

BIGGEST JOY OF 2010
Something had to make you happy this year, right? Maybe it was a company making really good shiznit, or maybe it was a long awaited release of something you thought you’d never see. It can big or small, important or seemingly irrelevant to the wider audience, but what has brought you the most joy in 2010?
PREVIOUS WINNER: 2009 - Mattel

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO IN 2011?
Ok, so the year’s done and dusted. New stuff is coming out, and next year is almost upon us. What is scheduled for release that you just must have? What is making you salivate more than a Japanese businessman in front of a used-panty vending machine? Sorry for the gratuitous metaphor, but only soiled undergarment seeking gentlemen from the land of the rising sun can truly appreciate the desire to covet our prized treasures.
PREVIOUS WINNER: 2009 – Battle Cat

YOUR OUT-OF-LEFT-FIELD TOY IDEA
Why can’t we get Happy Days figures? Even though he’s recently passed, I’m sure Tom Bosley would appreciated his likeness being carried on through the ages on my shelf, and then on sold to someone for $2 at the local toy fair, only to become a rare item and said buyer making $5000 by flogging it off on eBay. Anyway, I digress. So what has never been made into an action figure before that demands it. Or perhaps you are the only one who demands it. You suck anyway.
PREVIOUS WINNER: 2009 – Seinfeld figures (submitted by board member Artistix)

Ok, so that's all I have. I'll update this post if there are any further ideas, so keep an eye out. Hope to see your votes soon! Remember the address - ofta2010@iinet.net.au.

How about an "Most Over-Rated Toyline" award? Or "Best Use Of License" award?

Will vote this weekend. Don't know how much I have to offer given I've only bought a few toys this year, but some response will be better than none.
