So where the hell does this fit in with timeline continuity???

Superman Returns was supposed to be after 2 right, ignoring the other crap that came after it??

Snyder = YAY!

Zod = NAY!

I like Zod, but he's been done in Superman 2 and as a major villain in Smallville. I was hoping to see a villain who hasn't been in one of the movies before like Brainiac, Metallo, Darkseid, Doomsday, etc. I know most of those have also been adapted for Smallville, but that show doesn't have the budget (or the talent) to do any of those characters justice.

Still, at the very least it indicates that we will see some cool fight scenes between the two Kryptonians. And I'm guessing it will be a completely new mythology that ignores Donner's Superman and Superman Returns and possibly even re-writes elements to try and get around the ever-present copyright dispute between DC and the original creators.

Cheers.

Yeah, me thinks this will be a complete reboot, ignoring all other Superman films.

Nolan already confirmed previously that they intend to start with a blank slate approach, which is part of the reason why Warner's gave them the gig. Particularly after Singer's Donner movie homage/continuation did less than stellar business...

Personally I think that Snyder is a great choice to visualise the Superman mythos for the current era, and and a pretty steady hand in terms of honoring the intent of the original source material, and Nolan to my mind has had a pretty much golden record since he started making features, so I'm actually excited to see what they as a pair can bring to the screen here.

As for Zod being the villain, it kinda makes sense for a reboot/first film in a new series, just as I hope that they have (a modern era take on) Lex Luthor lurking in the background as a supporting character, that can gradually be built up over the course of several films in an intelligent way. Just no more damn land scheme schenannigans and silver age-esque goofiness...

It'll be interesting to see how the casting develops on this one. Snyder stalwart Jeffrey Dean Morgan would actually make a pretty damn good Zod for a start...

Colour me interested. Hopefully there isn't a memory wiping kiss scene, cellophane S shields, Nuclear Men or Lex Luthors with crappy wigs.

I like Zod as a villain, even Brainiac would be cool. The Lex Luthor angle has unfortunately been done one too many times.

I'm sorry to see Routh go. Though I barely remember Superman Returns.

Hopefully they find someone good to play the man of steel.

I think he did a pretty decent job, the story was the main problem.

Yeah I had no problem with Routh. Anything that was wrong with Superman Returns wasn't down to him. And I know some didn't like how close he was to Reeve's portrayal of Clark, but again that was something he was instructed to do, not something he chose himself to do. The fact that he did it so well probably speaks to his versatility as an actor, though I haven't seen in in much else, so I can't say that definitively.

I'd love to see him given another shot, but no doubt that Warners won't want anyone from Returns anywhere near this so as not to confuse people into thinking this is a sequel, rather than a reboot. Or at least I'm sure that'll be their reasoning anyway...

I liked Routh as Clark Kent. I didn't particularly like him as Superman or Kal-El, but that was more due to the writing than his performance.

I'm hoping for someone along the lines of Matthew Bomer (unlikely since he can't get rid of the rumours about his sexuality) or Henry Cavill (unlikely since he was previously considered and dismissed). If they took a gamble and went with someone like John Hamm it would be stupendous, but I'm inclined to think they'll go "young" in order to milk the franchise for as long as possible.

Armie Hammer might be another possibility, even though he was to be "Batman" in Justice League. DJ Cotrona aka "Superman" in Justice League may even get a look-at, although I'm not a fan personally.

I hope they include Lex Luthor in the film, but in a minor/back-ground role.

Natalie Portman for Lois Lane. Billy Zane for Lex Luthor. Neither is likely since Portman is tied to Marvel as "Jane Foster" and Billy Zane's most recent work was some terrible c-grade fantasy film.

Cheers.
