Chris Hemsworth from Home and Away is THOR

Post by TheMyth on Sun May 17, 2009 8:23 am

I personally don't watch Home and Away, but for those that do, Chris Hemsworth has been cast as THOR.

I'm not a big fan of the current trend of making superheroes into teenagers/coming of age tales. It fits for some of them (i.e. Spiderman) but others it's just a bit silly...

How very bizarre. That has kind of ruined it for me. My sister watches H&A so I know who he is and....well he's boring.

Well at least we've been spared Josh Hartnett from the role.

I think it comes down to how the actor performs. Natalie manages to pull off some stuff beyond her years. Chris...well he's on H&A so I have doubts on his acting abilities right now.

But yes, I agree that as it hasn't been confirmed so I doubt very much that its true. It was like hearing Michelle Ang was cast as Cho Chang in Harry Potter. Stuff like that is spread to give the locals hope that our actors are good....I just wish they'd pick people that weren't currently or very recently in one of our horrible soaps Razz

You know, I'm not entirely convinced that they can find someone to play this kind of character convincingly. In fact, I think the only way that Thor's going to work is if they go the Ultimates route and play the "is he just a nutbag or isn't he" card.

I remember at one stage there were rumours of Kevin McKidd (from Dog Soldiers, Trainspotting, Rome and recently Grey's Anatomy) playing the role, and imho I reckon he'd be spot on - just the right mix of rugged, slightly-nuts and still handsome that I think would work.

But then, since Kenneth Branagh's in the director's chair, I wonder if we're going to get something a lot more fantastical...

Interesting - from what I know of the Ultimates version (and I'm not very clued in oon it), I thought Thor was a pretty different character.

THinking of 616, I'm imagining Dr. House tapping his cane on the ground... THAT'd be some interesting casting for Thor's alter-ego, if you ask me ;o)

He did a good job of Kirk but I just couldn't get H&A out of my head when he came on screen.

I never watch Home & Away, so I know nothing of him in that show, but he seemed finein Trek in the small role that he had, though nothing about him screamed out "that guy should be Thor". Hell, nothing even screamed out "that guy deserves a lot more work" particularly. He did the job and did it well enough, but is he capable of more, let alone of anchoring a film in a title role that will be difficult to pull off on screen convincingly, without looking in any way silly? Who knows...

Re: Thor (2011) Official Movie Thread

As I understand it - the movie is a 'LOTR' type affair set in Asgard, where the gods exist in their true form - he's goona fight ice giants, be victim to Loki's mischief and generally disappoint his father. Word is at the end he'll be banished to Midgard (Earth), where he becomes the brick shithouse we all know (something to do with how mortals perceive gods) - no one has said that the movies are going to be straight Ultimates or 616 - ever since Samuel L Jackson popped up, everyone assumes it was going to be Ultimates - I think it'll be 'let's twist and contort 60+ years of continuity into a 2 hour flick that average Joe who knoes nothing about all this can enjoy, with a few nods to the geeks' film, like all the other Marvel films have.

That would make one excellent display item at the entrance to any house. Heard a number of reports of how comic accurate the costumes etc are. Really looking forward to this and Captain America.
