Just appeared from nowhere. No other Details. But too good production values and known actors to be not something bigger than a fan made peice. My question is it WB or Threshold Entertainment putting it out?

Yeah I just saw that too, interesting stuff. Though I'm sure the purists will take issue with it for obvious reasons...

Viral marketing, teaser for a new movie/tv show/game, or fan film backed by some serious dollars (considering some of the casting and production quality)? Nobody seems to know, or if they do they aint saying. Probably learn more at Comicon I'm guessing.

Interesting indeed...

Isn't that pretty much all people do on youtube anyway? Laughing

Even as a hardcore fan of the games I actually thought it was rather interesting myself, but then as much as I'm a fan of the games, I'm not a fan of any of the previous attempts at movies and tv shows, so...

Oh, and yeah, it was Michael Jai White, along with Jeri Ryan, glimpses of a couple of other known actors, and I think a couple of UFC fighters...

Chud just posted this:

UPDATE 2: Cat's out of the bag. This is for the movie, and it comes from the mind of genius fight choreographer Larnell Stovall. He's the guy who did the fights for the excellent Undisputed 3: Redemption, on DVD and Blu-Ray right now. I hope that this movie gets made with Larnell plotting the punches, because this guy isn't just a geek like us, he's also got an incredible skill and ambition to create the next generation of fight choreography.

UPDATE: For those saying this is a video tied in to E3 and a launch for a new Mortal Kombat game - I am 99% sure that is not the case. This is for a new Mortal Kombat movie.

This video just showed up in my inbox, and while I would normally dismiss it as the work of a fan with waaaaay too much disposable income, something caught my eye. A couple of weeks ago I had a chance to chat with someone involved in the latest iteration of the video game adaptation, and they told me that the hook of this movie was going to be 'realism.' He also told me a couple of other things that are reflected in this video, including the origins of Reptile and Baraka, which makes me believe that this is a proof of concept or demo reel, possibly for investors.

What do you think? Do you like a grimmer and grittier take on the game?

Meanwhile LatinoReview just posted this:
Mortal Kombat is a movie franchise that has been missing one thing - the blood and guts that we all loved from the video games.

Now it looks as if we're going to finally get the rated 'R' reboot we fans deserve. Kotaku has the first look at the Mortal Kombat test video shot for Warner Brothers to get funding for a full blown hard 'R' MK movie. Yes, this is the direction they plan on going for the Mortal Kombat reboot. And I've got the exclusive goods on who played who.

* The short was directed by Kevin Tancharoen, who did the remake of Fame last year. Judging from this short, Kevin is the perfect director for this movie.

* Jacks is played by Michael Jai White. Michael played Spawn and was in Undisputed II. Michael makes a great Jacks (Jax).

* Sonya Blade is played by Jeri Ryan, who played Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager.

* Baraka was played by the very talented Lateef Crowder, who plays the Brazilian fighter in Undisputed III.

* Scorpion is played by Ian Anthony Dale. Ian plays Kazuya in the upcoming big screen version of Tekken.

* Johnny Cage was played by up and coming martial arts sensation Matt Mullins.

* Still working on who played Reptile. Will update when I find out.

* The fight choreography was done by Larnell Stovall. Larnell did the fight choreography for Undisputed III and is one of the best fight choreographers in the business. You want to see the fights you deserve? Then you fans should DEMAND he be the guy in one charge for this reboot. Click HERE to read the exclusive interview I did with Larnell.

* I know who might be playing Sub-Zero, but don't want to mention it in case it screws something up. He'd be perfect for the part.

Wow that looks awesome, funnily enough I read an article about Jeri Ryan somewhere yesterday and she was talking about this. The only reason I read the article was because it had a picture of her as 7 of 9.

Here's an article detailing the new Mortal Kombat web-series: http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/23052

10 episodes scheduled, with no word yet on how they will be distributed, but one would imagine that they'll be released in conjunction with the new game in April, for promotional purposes.

I watched it yesterday before I popped out of the office and I can't wait for the next episode. I have read some negative feedback from MK fans, mostly involving Sonya Blade - the actress is too old, she isn't naked etc LOL.

If MK movies had been like this they would have been a hell of a lot more successful. I thought it was pretty cool.
