Sledge's stuff (warning, image intensive)...

Post by Sledge Hammer! on Wed Apr 14, 2010 1:44 pm

I got bored today and decided to finally get around to uploading some pics I took of my current collection...or at least the part of it that currently owns a slice of shelf space anyway.

Been moving away from figures and towards higher end stuff for the most part these past few years, so here's a look at what's what, or at least what was what back in early January when I took these pics anyhow.

Oh, and sorry about the pic quality, my place has quite low light conditions, so I had to use the flash on most of these shots, and there isn't really enough room to get far enough away to use the flash properly, so most of these pics are more washed out and lacking in detail than I'd like. As such, most of these pieces look better in person than what my meagre photography skills can show...

Anyway, onto the pics...

I probably should have dusted first... Laughing

The Batmobiles are all 1:18 scale diecasts made by Hot Wheels. All are very nice pieces, well worth picking up, though the plastic canopy on the Tumbler perhaps could have been better designed.

The Tumbler from Batman Begins was released in both the standard black that you see on my shelf, as well as in a camo-paint version, from the scene in the film where Bruce Wayne is first shown it by Lucius. There may well have been other versions as well, as Hot Wheels do love their variant releases. I'm pretty sure there was at least an Elite version, but I don't know what the differences in that one was.

The Barris 60's TV Batmobile came out in (at least) four versions that I know of. There was the basic retail model, a more accurate and more detailed Elite version, which is the one I have, a Super Elite version, which has even finer detailing, but not so much that it warrants the lofty increase in price in my opinion, and a flocked exclusive version. There may have also been a very limited silver/unpainted version done as well, if memory serves.

The '89 Burton era Batmobile also came in at least three versions, the standard one, which is what I have, an Elite version, which had more of a flat grey bodypaint, and gold trims for the wheels and piping on the sides and so on, and a later re-issue which had 'battle damage' bullet scrapes painted on it, and hot purple trims and piping. One of the coolest things about the '89 Batmobile is that there are a pair of guns on the front hood that are each on a rotatable panel, so you can spin them up into 'battle ready' position, or leave them hidden away, and both display options look equally good.

Anyway, thanks again for the compliments and comments folks. Smile

Great stuff Sledge! My fave is the Tom Baker with the jelly babies and your other Dr Who stuff.

I also have the '89 Burton and '66 Elite Batmobile the same as yours. The '66 is my all-time favourite but is lacking in that HW made them as the car appears today, not accurate to the TV show, so it needs a lot of work if you want screen accuracy. They did scan the original's body though, so at least they got that dead on. Another annoying thing is that some elite's came with raised dashboard details and some did not. Mine did not.

HW also released chrome and flat black Elite '66 versions this year.

Here's a pic of my customised elite with new rollbar, antlers and beacon. Makes all the difference!

Check out www.1966batmobile.com and www.pimpmybatmobile.com for more customising ideas.

I'm not a customiser, so I can live with the elite '66 the way it is, some of the custom jobs I've seen do look damn good though. Are you going to customise any more of your '66, or is that it for yours now?

As for my collection, I'm really slack at taking pics of stuff, but I should take a couple of shots of my purchases from the past few months and update this thread, such as the AvP Sideshow diorama, the Obi-Wan vs Vader diorama, and the custom painted Hard Hero Conan (when I fix it, fucking dhl/customs damaged the piece during inspection, still arguing with them about it...).

Maybe I'll wait until next month when my Indiana Jones vs Mola Ram dio comes in...

Thanks for looking.

I really need to do a few updated pics, these are almost a year old now, so picked up a few pieces since then.

Hopefully you'll throw up some pics of your own collection at some point, I'd love to see what you've got, and what pieces you draw inspiration from. Smile

Thanks pal. Yeah most are DC Direct, but not all.

Left to right: Yamato series 1 Joker, DC Direct Batman & Son series 1 Joker, DC Direct Dark Knight Returns Joker (original single release), DC Direct Long Halloween Joker, DC Direct Silver Age boxed set Joker, DC Direct Alex Ross Justice League series 3 Joker, DC Direct Hush series 2 Harley Quinn, Mattel quick fire Joker, DC Direct Hush series 1 Joker, DC Direct Hish series 2 Catwoman, Hasbro DC Superheroes Joker, DC Direct Killing Joke boxed set Joker, Kia Asamiya series 1 Joker, DC Direct Superman/Batman series 5 Joker, Yamato series 1 Harley Quinn, Mattel DC Universe Classics Joker

As you can likely tell with these, the sealed SDCC exclusive DC Direct straightjacket Joker, the Joker and Harley Quinn statures and maquettes, and the Hot Toys Joker, I have a bit of an obsession with the character... Laughing

I tend to go on a bit of a joker figure buying binge once a year or so to add to the shelf. Need to do that soon actually, there still a few I want to add...

Now if only someone would make a decent trenchcoat wearing Joker figure...

I'll try and shoot some shots over the weekend, as she's pretty obscured in the ones I already have. As I said I need to take some new pics anyway.

But yeah, she's one of DC Direct's animated series maquettes from a few years back. I also have a custom Harley statue on that shelf as well. Both are nice pieces if your a fan.
