Just bought a Wii

Post by Otter on Wed Mar 24, 2010 9:40 am

I am a very late adopter here. The last game system I owned was an original Playstation Embarassed
We got with the console in the deal
Mario Galaxy
Wii sports of course
Acme arsenal (a looney tunes game) havent played it yet.

Having fun with it so far but confused about all the accessories. I have a few questions:
1. Are the knock off accessories, that is the non-nintendo accessories any good? In particular the guns.

2. What does everyone recommend is the best gun based game?

3. What accessories do people recomend I get (rackets, wheels etc) and what are just junk?

4. Is it worth getting that extra sensitive add-on for the remote the "Motion plus"?

5. Is it worth getting the extra sensitive TV bar?

Thanks

In my opinion

1. Are the knock off accessories, that is the non-nintendo accessories any good? In particular the guns.

I wouldn't bother, waste of money

3. What accessories do people recomend I get (rackets, wheels etc) and what are just junk?

Maybe just the a wheel, only if you get mario kart wii

4. Is it worth getting that extra sensitive add-on for the remote the "Motion plus"?

haven't gotten any games that need it yet so i haven't bought motion plus yet

5. Is it worth getting the extra sensitive TV bar?

I don't have one, see no need, works well without it.

Ok, let me have a crack at the ones I can confidently answer...

2. What does everyone recommend is the best gun based game?

House Of The Dead Overkill. Without question.

3. What accessories do people recomend I get (rackets, wheels etc) and what are just junk?

None.

4. Is it worth getting that extra sensitive add-on for the remote the "Motion plus"?

Not yet. Too few games need it yet to worry about, but if they do come, it IS a worthy addition.

5. Is it worth getting the extra sensitive TV bar?

No.

1. Are the knock off accessories, that is the non-nintendo accessories any good? In particular the guns.

You usually get what you pay for, if you buy cheap you get cheap.

2. What does everyone recommend is the best gun based game?

Agree with Rob House Of The Dead Overkill.

3. What accessories do people recomend I get (rackets, wheels etc) and what are just junk?

A cheap wheel and definitly a classic controller. (Although the plastic bowling ball amuses me) Everything else is just something else you can wack the pets, small children and your TV with.

4. Is it worth getting that extra sensitive add-on for the remote the "Motion plus"?

Yes, even though there arn't too many games that use it.

5. Is it worth getting the extra sensitive TV bar?

No. All the TV bar is a couple of IR light. You can use other light souces like torches or even candles to do the samething. Make sure where the bar is places is directly out of sunlight or incandescent light or it will screw around with the sensitivity.

Razz Maybe I should get them.
Thanks for the good feedback it sounds like my next purchase will be the Nintendo light gun and the recommended gun game.

Still open for any other feedback from current Wii users.

Thanks

I wouldn't recommend Nintendo's "gun" (the Zapper, which comes with Link's Crossbow Training).

It's terrible. Actually makes games a LOT harder to play.

Google reviews for 3rd party Wii gun attatchments for better options.

Nyko has one that's highly recommended by many people... not sure the name or model though...

I see I can get house of the dead bang bang box which includes game, graphic novel and 2 guns for $80 delivered.
Anyone used the guns that come with this set?
Are they any good?

Yeah they're good. 3rd party guns are good as well. House of the Dead 2+3 is a great game as well.

also just be aware if you are going to get into the guitar hero type games, sometimes the controllers are not compatible with the rock band type games and vice versa (although I've been told you can buy cheap third party controllers that are compatible with both rock band and guitar/band hero

Got Overkill bang bang box on the weekend.
Friggen awesome!! Thanks for the heads up.
The bonus is that the wife loves it too, we we spent the weekend (when our daughter was asleep) wiping out zombies.
