Ebay Australia Payment Options Narrow.

Post by Octane on Wed Apr 09, 2008 9:34 pm

Ebay continues to do dumb things.

Payment options in Ebay Australia will be reduced to Paypal (Manditory) and COD only starting June 17th. Following implementation in the UK some time in April. (Rest of the world probably to follow shortly.)

Personally I'm torn.
This turns away buyers and puts up the risk of people filing complaints to scam sellers who've done nothing wrong.

However, it now stops stupid people from trying to pay bank deposit over the counter at actual banks. I'm all for that as a seller because this way I don't get people from states that don't have a Greater Building Society close or even in the state trying to pay this way. They then either refuse to pay or try to pay by money order.

There is ONLY ONE REASON eBay is doing this.

They make an EXTRA 5% on PayPal exchanges.

They don't get to skim off the top of Direct Deposit.

Just a new way they're ripping people off.

I thought the same thing as Bobby; its clearly the next step in the Ebay business design to make more money, when you cannot cut more staff, charge your customers more.

Paypal annoys me a great deal cos they double dip on the exchange rate for OS transactions and charge the seller.

I wouldn't be surprised if all prices shoot up by around 10-15% after this "narrowing" of payment options comes into effect.

Sellers will want to buffer themselves from PayPal's cut of their profits.

This is going to have an unpleasant ripple effect, mark my words.

Just recieved my delux matrix sentinel in the mail (YES!!!!!) and recieved this message when going to leave feedback

Important changes to Feedback
Buyers, you can no longer receive negative or neutral Feedback from sellers.
You should leave honest and accurate Feedback without the fear of receiving negative or neutral ratings.

That seems a little strange to me ....over the years I've had 2 people not pay and after sending plenty of warnings/lodging no paying buyer reports etc have finally blasted them with -ve feedback....1 left it back for me which sullied my %100....I suppose this will stop that guy we all looked at a while ago leaving obscure/negative feedback as a joke but seems to me a lot like the new substitution rule in the AFL a huge over reaction for a minor problem

The new feedback system is probably going to cause more problems for eBay's support center - it'll more than likely result in them having to deal with more feedback removals after "the shoddy hard to please" buyers leave negative feedback.

My biggest issue with the old feedback system was with power sellers that were too lazy leave feedback and the routine of a buyer having to leave feedback first.

Anyone else notice a sudden increase in their feedback rating?

That's good, it means you can buy 100 items off the one seller and get 100 feedback instead of just one!

"ONLINE auction website eBay has dropped its bid to use Australia as a guinea pig to trial a new policy where all other modes of payment are barred except its own transaction gateway, PayPal.

As a result, direct deposits, personal cheques and money orders will continue to exist as allowing all existing payment methods on eBay.com.au."
