Woe is me

Post by NiteOwl on Wed Dec 09, 2009 3:14 pm

I had a pretty bad car accident today. Just after lunch, I was driving to another site and got hammered by another car which veered over to my side of the road. Long story short, I have a dislocated thumb, I popped my right shoulder (again), neck is killing me and my left knee is swollen three times the original size. You know what hurts the most? .......going through insurance and paying a $650.00 excess. I'm off to bed, Panadeine Forte is starting to kick in...........

Wait on, you have to pay the excess because of the other driver? Lemme guess, he was uninsured? What a piece of $(*&! I hope his car was written off.
*big hugs* hope you're feeling better real soon (and that you've seen a doctor!)

Ouch, hope the other driver was insured.

Things could be much worse than $650 though mate, thank your lucky stars for that one.

I may be wrong but I kinda assumed he was talking health insurance.

*edit* yup, I'm certain I read incorrectly, thats gotta be for the car.

Hey guys, thanks so much for all the well wishes, I really appreciate it. Well I was able to pop my thumb back into place just after the accident, I will probably have to have my knee drained of excessive fluid. Past experiences with my shoulder, I know I'm looking at about 3-4 four weeks until it comes good. My neck is something else though, I can't look to my left at the moment. I did go to the hospital just after, but I drove myself Embarassed ...probably not the best of ideas!
Yep, the $650 is for the excess because it will take a lot more to fix my car....the other driver was uninsured. Evil or Very Mad

Thanks again, the well wishes reinforce that this is indeed the best place on the net.

Of all that you've sustained from this, hearing about your neck is what worries me the most.

I suffered a nasty neck injury myself last year, and I feel the effects of it every day since.

I sincerely hope that you're more fortunate.

Heh looks like a few of us are a bit on the "walking wounded" side of things. At the start of October, I approached this guy and his mates about smoking in the carriage I was on because I've got a really bad dust allergy. Words were exchanged and they got violent and grabbed me by the face with their thumb over my mouth, after trying to intimidate me into getting off at another station which was poorly lit and deserted.

I resisted until I bit hard into their thumb to make them stop, which they ripped away so hard that they snapped the tooth sockets of 3 of my lower incissors from my jaw and fractured it.

They then followed me off the train when I did get off at my stop, and the guy caught up to me, overpowered me (at the time I thought he was on Ice- turns out it was just alcohol with him being the psychotically violent drunk type) threw me to the ground and slammed into my left eye socket multiple times with his fist and delivered 2 nasty kicks to the head.

The left side of my face looked like it belonged to the Elephant man and on the right side of my forehead was a welt in the shape of his shoe logo. I wound up losing 2 of my teeth completely (the dental work alone is going to cost around $14k to repair the damage and take about 2 years to do) and having my jaw wired for 6 weeks, getting 2 fractures to the left eye socket and I still have numbness under the left eye and in the left nostril. Doctors at the time were amazed that with how bad the injuries were that I wasn't dead or a vegetable.

The guy plead guilty to both attacks in late Feb so now I'm just waiting for the sentencing in late April and hoping that justice is served and he spends a long time in jail.

Jeez, is there any civil action on your end to get compensation?

Sure sounds like you'd be entitled.

I've had a "woe" time as of late, but after reading your post bow, I'd never even dream of wasting anyone's time with it.

I've currently got a Victim's of Crime Solicitor who's in the middle of filing paperwork to present it to the Tribunal- I should have enough from it to cover my injuries with a little extra- just waiting and seeing and hoping to hell that the guy doesn't get a wrist slap in terms of jail time. That's kind of why I've gone crazy getting Vintage stuff over the past few months- major case of retail therapy heh.

As for what's going on, seriously, it's not a competition- whatever you're going through is your pain and is very real and significant to you. If you feel the need to share it, you should. Don't let mine or someone else's plight invalidate your own Smile.
