Prices

Post by The Dr Of Style on Fri Oct 09, 2009 4:41 pm

Just bought a graphic novel for $33.....cover price is $17US.....now that seems a little high to me....especially with where the dollar is now.I'm assuming that with each weekly shipment the shops get an invoice for what is shipped (say maybe a week earlier) I know prices for floppies here in perth are a little cheaper than in Syd.....There is obviously a certain amount of profit built in to the cover price, atleast for US retailers that I'm sure gets lost in shipping costs out here but what do you guys think the margins are?

I remember reading somewhere that on a $2.99 book, the retailer makes $1.

You got slammed on that trade mate, what was it?

the mark upon comics & trades can be dodgey sometimes, my local newsagent sells floppies that have a $2.99 cover price at $10AU and Borders sells floppies for $12 AU (and they look like they have been folded into paper airplanes)

how these guys stay in business when comic stores just down the road sell mint and sometimes months newer comics for $6 or less amazes me

Yep, Borders is the WORST here, and NO-ONE can explain why? I've asked 3 different stores how they work out the prices and it's the standard answer, not allowed to discuss that.....

Kinokuynia near Town Hall Sydney is the best that I have found for fair priced graphic novels. I think you can order online too.
