Re: Limited Edition Masters Of The Universe Art Book at SDCC
53 pages at $50 USD a pop sounds a mite excessive to me. I'm just hoping that this is a preview of a mass-market book down the line, as the original MOTU packaging artwork is a thing of beauty (and rarely, if ever surpassed IMHO).

IF your thinking of getting one you might want to be there early at comic con, only 1000 made and already a lot of angry fans.

This'll sell out first day methinks. And then go for a scalper's fortune on the 'bay. Especially after Mattel said they couldn't make more than 1000 due to "legal issues"...whatever that means.
I'd love to get one, but I get a feeling that I'm gonna need both my kidneys, so...

Yeah, i have resigned to never see this, as 1000 is such a low run.
Whats up with Mattel and MOTU? Legal reasons restrict them to 1000 and they don't have the rights to make certain figures of their own line....????

Yeah, it's a bit frustrating. I know that the idea of an art book and collection of the mini comics has been something fans have been after for years, so it seems like a fair slap to our collective faces to do it this way.
Here's hoping that they sort out the 'legal issues' down the line and give us a nice artbook down the line (I, for one, would think that there'd be a LOT more than 53 pages worth of art that could be presented).

Yeah you'd think so. I mean I don't know about the last series, because I dropped out of collecting back in the day around 85 or 86, so I never even saw any of the years worth of figs and stuff, but every singly fig release and every vehicle or accessory up to that point all at least one original painted piece of 'story' artwork showing them off, so just reproducing all that stuff alone would take more than 53 pages, you'd think. Let alone the amount of stuff done for posters, merchandising, advertising and so on.
But regardless, I don't know if there's another toyline ever that had so much great, detailed artwork done for it, so it'd definitely be nice to see all of that collected and celebrated in print.
As for this 53 page book, I think the only chance I'll get to see it for myself is if someone scans the book and released a cbr or pdf of it onto the interweb. And there's probably about a 50/50 chance of that happening I'd say...

Everything else turns up on the net, so here's hoping. No chance for He-Man.org though.
