What are you listening to now?

Post by simmo on Tue Jun 30, 2009 10:31 am

Thought I'd start a thread so we can talk about bands/musos that are floating our boats at the moment.

I'm really into the Decemberists right now...got them on high rotation on my ipod at work.

Currently in rotation;

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!
Really loving this one. Some fun tracks and some slower tracks, all really well rounded and a great listen-through album.

The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die
Great intense tracks, good for a pump up before a night out clubbing.

Regina Spektor - Far
I'm a big fan of RS, she's got a lovely style. This album probably doesn't top "Begin to Hope" for me, but there are some fantastic tracks on here that I'm really enjoying.

And a wee bit older, I have Grand National's "A Drink and a Quick Decision" in my car cd player right at the moment.

Haha, not embarrassing Hemish. I <3 Lily. Still prefer "Alright, Still..." to "It's Not Me, It's You" but she's a good bit of fun.

And spitcurlboy - I quite like that song....er, I've forgotten the name of it. Something about being broke and having a good time Razz
I acquired the rest of the album but it wasn't my cup of tea.

I've been cycling through my Radiohead discs (whilst butchering the songs on my guitar). I'm also trying to chase down some Amos Lee albums - heard a couple songs over the weekend (he was featured on 'Live at Abbey Road' on ABC).

Went and saw Fleetwood Mac while they were here in December and immediately after I went and bought the best of. I've been playing it on repeat since then.
I got their self titled album, Rumours and Tusk for my birthday but I'm waiting for a decent chance to sit and listen to them proper. Though 10 out of 12 songs from Rumours are on the best of, as well as 7 of 11 from the self titled.

I was a fan before seeing them in concert, obviously had to have been in order to pay the ticket price (yowch!) but I've managed to develop an obsession now.

And your fave band is?

Caught Florence + the Machine at the Metro in Syd last night - bloody brilliant (bad venue sound aside). Easily my favourite album to come out in 09. Just wished they'd played for more than an hour.
Also really loved the intro she did which included Fever Ray's "If I Had a Heart"

My favourite Movie Podcast has ceased to be - www.sceneunseenpodcast.com - and is sorely missed.

I've subscribed to Filmspotting as an alternative.
