What are you listening to now?

Post by simmo on Tue Jun 30, 2009 5:31 am

Thought I'd start a thread so we can talk about bands/musos that are floating our boats at the moment.

I'm really into the Decemberists right now...got them on high rotation on my ipod at work.

Currently in rotation;

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!
Really loving this one. Some fun tracks and some slower tracks, all really well rounded and a great listen-through album.

The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die
Great intense tracks, good for a pump up before a night out clubbing.

Regina Spektor - Far
I'm a big fan of RS, she's got a lovely style. This album probably doesn't top "Begin to Hope" for me, but there are some fantastic tracks on here that I'm really enjoying.

And a wee bit older, I have Grand National's "A Drink and a Quick Decision" in my car cd player right at the moment.

Haha, not embarrassing Hemish. I <3 Lily. Still prefer "Alright, Still..." to "It's Not Me, It's You" but she's a good bit of fun.

And spitcurlboy - I quite like that song....er, I've forgotten the name of it. Something about being broke and having a good time Razz
I acquired the rest of the album but it wasn't my cup of tea.

I've been cycling through my Radiohead discs (whilst butchering the songs on my guitar). I'm also trying to chase down some Amos Lee albums - heard a couple songs over the weekend (he was featured on 'Live at Abbey Road' on ABC).

Went and saw Fleetwood Mac while they were here in December and immediately after I went and bought the best of. I've been playing it on repeat since then.
I got their self titled album, Rumours and Tusk for my birthday but I'm waiting for a decent chance to sit and listen to them proper. Though 10 out of 12 songs from Rumours are on the best of, as well as 7 of 11 from the self titled.

I was a fan before seeing them in concert, obviously had to have been in order to pay the ticket price (yowch!) but I've managed to develop an obsession now.

And your fave band is?

Caught Florence + the Machine at the Metro in Syd last night - bloody brilliant (bad venue sound aside). Easily my favourite album to come out in 09. Just wished they'd played for more than an hour.
Also really loved the intro she did which included Fever Ray's "If I Had a Heart"

You saw Florence + The Machine, so jealous, i've been listening to "Kiss With A Fist" all day,
My fave band right now is The Cribs, but that'll probably change next week haha

I'm off to see Hockey tonight Very Happy, was gonna be at the Metro but the change it to the Oxford Art Factory (which i love)

Then Wild Beasts on Monday,
then Black Lips the monday week,
then A Place To Bury Strangers on the 11th of Feb,
Then OKGo Very Happy on the 18th
then The Cribs on the 19th
Then Soundwave on the 21st
then Franz Ferdinand on the 3rd of March

then i'll sleep for a while, as you can tell i went a little overboard with my credit card Very Happy
Lucky i didn't spend to much at BDO, speaking of which. Check out the garbageness (wasn't me).

Keep in mind it was only like 2:30 at that point

Re: What are you listening to now?

I've been listening to Rob Zombie's new album, Hellbilly Deluxe 2 over the past couple of days, and I'm not really sure what to make of it.

It's not really like any of his other albums (horror references and themes aside). It's less metal, and more bluegrass/surf-punk/acid rock (John 5's influence having an effect, one would assume).

I can't say that I dislike it, but I can't claim to really like it either.

One thing is, there aren't really any stand-out tracks.

On Hellbilly Deluxe you have Dragula, Living Dead Girl, and Superbeast. On The Sinister Urge you have Feel So Numb, Never Gonna Stop, and Demon Speeding. Educated Horses has American Witch, Let It All Bleed Out, and (my favourite) Lords Of Salem.

HD2 has Jesus Frankenstein, Sick Bubble-Gum, and Burn as the closest it has to memorable tracks, but to be brutally honest, the whole album just kind of bleeds together into a 45-minute cacophony.

As unmemorable as it currently seems to me though, I don't mind listening to it, and have had it looped all day...

The heat, too many people and stupidly-self-induced dehydration. 10 minutes into GirlTalk and my body started walking out without informing me.
