Re: Last Movie You Watched
Yeah, I thought that's what tarantino might have been going for with that switch part way through, but it just seemed kind of pointless to me.
Also, I have to say I didn't like that it was set "now". It seemed to be such a product of the 70's, when Jungle Julia pulled out her mobile phone, it really took me out of the film.

Re: Last Movie You Watched
I'm tired, so my response will be crudely presented in point form.HAL wrote:I would like to also add that the thread is for listing (and commenting) on the last movie you watched, and while it can be enjoyable to read others opinions of said move ie, yeah I agree, or, I thought that was awful...
- HAL, I think you're thinking that my post was directed towards you. This was not the case. As is the purpose of a counter-point to a broadly directed statement, it was posted for the benefit of those who might read the post in question, not for the poster (in this case, you Mr. HAL).
- Over the years, I have seen MANY people talk about Equilibrium as though it is one of the greatest cinematic achievements of all time. Too many people. I believe this broad notion to be an exaggeration, and I have found that the majority of people who hold this opinion are people who have never seen the many stories that the film rips off.
In consideration of this, whenever I see a glowing endorsment of the film I feel it my duty - as an ambassador of the artform of the moving picture - to offer another perspective on the film. Not with the intetion of "negating" anyone's positive opinion of the film, but to act as counterpoint, to provide readers/listeners with a more balanced overall appraisal from which to make their considerations.
In summation: You thought it was fantastic, I thought it was vapid. Everyone else can now take these opposing views aboard if they wish, and make up their own minds. Which I personally feel is a better (and more stimulating) situation for people, than if they were presented principally with views from only one side of the spectrum (be that solely positive or negative).

INLAND EMPIRE.
Haunting, compelling, brilliant. Got under my skin in the same way as Lynch`s Mullholland Drive and Lost Highway did, only more so, and now have a brainache trying to piece together my own interpretation.

Yeah the death Note's are quite slow but I liked most of the characters and the 9 foot god's of death are used well while looking strange and out of place..... I like the Japanese language & accents too....they always sound cool

Re: Last Movie You Watched
Not really a movie but the first 6 mins of Dark Knight.
My dog got me Batman Begins on blu-ray for fathers day and it has the IMAX version of DK for the whole bank job scene, i watched it 6 times in a row and was in utter awe of how good it looks on a 50 inch screen with full HD and i almost wet myself when the Joker de-mask's. (sorry if thats a spoiler but if you've not seen the movie yet i hate you)
I hope that the Bluie version is released at the same time as the DVD or i will be pissed at having to buy both formats.

I saw Cloverfield on the weekend.
I went in expecting to loathe it as much as I did The Blair Witch Project, but I really did like it.
Quite well made.

hehehehe..... when I was a huge Lucas fan,TST that movie was sooooo hard to track down. That was in the early 90's, when I did finally see it, I couldn't believe what a rip off of 1984 that movie was. It was a wonder no one sued for copyright.

I haven`t seen it, but I saw the original about ten years ago and it seared itself into my brain. I`ve never watched it since but no movie has come close to battering and manipulating my senses like that movie. It`s a masterpiece imo and one of the best movies I`ve ever seen, just very difficult to watch (equally so if you`re a family man). I was skeptical when I heard Michael Heneke was remaking his own movie and the motivation behind doing so, I just don`t think a western audience has the sensibilities for it and I can imagine a lot of movie goers, drawn by Naomi watts, walking out. But I am curious, and I know once it hits DVD I`ll be tempted. Maybe.

I'm frustrated I never got to see that US remake with a big audience! That would have been a treat!

Re: Last Movie You Watched
It's an almost scene for scene remake, yet there's something slightly different to it. The cast are all really good, well worth a look, especially a decade later.
