Re: Last Movie You Watched
Caught Appleseed ExMachina tonight at the opening of the Real Anime festival type thing..... free beer & pizza ....happy with that....some nice animation with a couple of great John Woo scenes....but a large serving of "artistic theft" of Matrix revolutions in most of the final battle tho (mecha shooting at snake like swarms of smaller robot spider type things) was so blatant that I left a little dissapointed.
Revelation film festival starting soon so will probably catch Cthulhu (will try to ignore tori spelling in it)....has anyone ever read any of the lovecraft stuff?

I walked out of Appleseed at the Film Festival. I really didn't like the character acting in it, and kept getting distracted by people saying things that their faces didn't show.

Saw This is England tonight...whew, great film. You can see where it's going the whole time, but it doesn't make watching it any easier.

I forgot everything about that film 5 minutes after watching it.
Watching 3:10 To Yuma right now. It's pretty good.
I did start watching 30 Days of Night first, but got a bit creeped out, watching it in an empty house on my own.

Hired out Rambo & Jumper today....enjoyed both...Rambo has easily the most graphic violence I've seen in a movie, and as always another movie has added to the coolness that gets associated with guys who are snipers......And was really surprised with the quality of Jumper...I thought it got panned upon release....which led me to not see in the cinema but really enjoyed it & the characters

I saw Jumper the other day, I really enjoyed it too. I think the main problem was it was aiming too high. Wanted to show too much stuff in such a short amount of time and thats why it felt a little lacking. Should have gone for a couple of movies or something to make it work a bit better.

Exactly what I thought, until I found out it`s the first part of a planned trilogy

Well, that's even worse then. That they rushed it so much to fit all that into one movie. Should have stretched it all out and explained things better. Ah well, I'll still watch them

Scored free tics to The Bank Job preview tonight....Jason Statham. ... playing more of a geezer than kung fu expert. Pretty good British caper film in the vein of Oceans 11....some laughs some tense moments and plenty of different players all out for different things

Wanted....went in with pretty low expectations but quite enjoyed it.....don't expect much correlation to the comics but still a fun action movie.... the huge jump across a city street building to building a little far fetched even for someone with plenty of adrenaline going but the rest was good

To add a counter-point to this statement, *I* would suggest that instead of seeing Equilibrium, people should see:HAL wrote:Christian Bale in EQUILIBRIUM!Fantastic!!Can`t believe I`ve not caught this before. If you haven`t seen it, check it out!
- Farenheit 451
- 1984
- THX-1138
- The Matrix
IE: The (vastly superior) films that Equilibrium shamelessly rips off, and pretends to be.

Yes, *I`ve* seen the four films you mention and all are indeed very good (although the film version of 1984 doesn`t touch the original BBC adaptation). Anyone who knows their movies (or literature for that matter, because Brave New World could be added to that list) will know that the movie does indeed take elements from all of the above and throws them into one `shameless` mix, (to be really picky you could just get away with adding Gattaca as well). BUT, it was a surprisingly entertaining pre A-list Christian Bale movie that had escaped my radar, with some, quite frankly, great action scenes which I thought I would recommend on the boards.
I would like to also add that the thread is for listing (and commenting) on the last movie you watched, and while it can be enjoyable to read others opinions of said move ie, yeah I agree, or, I thought that was awful, it comes across as quite pretentious to completely negate Equilibrium because it borrows heavily from its influences.

So I should actually get around to watching THX-1138 then, considering I bought in on DVD about 2 years ago and still haven't seen it. Well, I'm glad somebody recommends it!

Watched Death Proof today...thought it was cool, but too long. Now I want to know what the theatrical, shorter version was like.
Also, couldn't understand why they dropped the lo-fi aspects about half way through. Just seemed a bit lazy to me.

The theatrical version didn`t include Butterfly`s lapdance nor the black and white scene, and I agree that although, imo, the first half is up there with QT`s finest work, it was overlong for its subject matter. More isn`t nessasarily better, and it would be nice to get the choice of the two versions on DVD.
The shift from lo-fo to the more vibrant polished look was a shift in genres from 'grindhouse' to a more 'vanishing point/Crazy Larry, Dirty Mary' style car chase movie (the black and white scene actually helped the shift, I thought).
Last movie I watched.....Finally sat through 300 tonight after turning it off when it was first released. Must not have been in the mood before because I really enjoyed it.
