New Star Trek Figures

Post by TheGoodDr on Fri May 01, 2009 12:58 pm

I received the 3&3/4" Star Trek figures from the new film the other day. They're OK I guess for size/price ($15.00ea) but certainly nothing to really write home about.
Seems the manufacture of the small scale figure is all the (cost cutting) rage ATM Sad

I saw these at the Rundle Mall SA TRU today. They look better in person than in photos I guess.

I used to collect the Playmates Star Trek lines - they were well articulated and good likenesses.

This new line is just total shite...

I've been tempted by the 6" figures when I've seen them on sale for $15.00 each. BUT I haven't managed to find a full set at that price yet and I'm also wary of grabbing four of the figures (the ones in their Enterprise uniforms) when it hasn't been confirmed (to my knowledge) that Playmates plan on releasing the rest of the crew in their Enterprise uniforms in the 6" scale (Uhura, Bones and Chekov).

Add to that the fact we may not even see a second series down under and I'm pretty cautious about grabbing the figures. Plus, I am looking forward to DST's re-release of the Art Asylum figures of the original crew in two-packs (with the exception of Chekov who hasn't been confirmed for a re-release yet).

Cheers.

I actually grabbed 3 of the 3 3/4 " ones the other day - finally found an Uhura with a good face paint-job, and the Spock and Sulu at the same place were ok too. I'm with you though Xena - they had better make Bones and Chekov in their Enterprise uniforms, or else I'm going to have to buy ANOTHER Spock and Sulu to try and swap the heads. Haven't seen a good Pike yet though, and Scotty looks like John Hannah from the Mummy movies to me.....

I think Uhura in the bigger figures is in her Cadet uniform (from what I've seen on the shelves)

I really want to grab that Enterprise playset but not sure if it's worth $80 :S

I really liked the Art Asylum Trek figures, or at least the earlier releases, the later efforts weren't nearly as well sculpted, likeness wise, in my opinion. At least in a lot of cases.

But these, yeah, not for me. And I still need to see the new Trek movie too... Laughing

I have not seen the larger Uhura figure anywhere. I have been looking for her for my daughter. I have however seen new Barbie Star Trek figures of Uhura, Kirk and Spock.

I haven't seen the 6" Cadet Uhura anywhere. I've spied the rest of the 6" wave here and there, but never any Uhuras.

Good luck with the search.

Cheers.

Anyone know where I could find the old TOS Art Asylum Trek figures? All I can find are Mirror Sulu at Minotaur.

DST (who took over the licence from Art Asylum) are re-releasing the "original series" figures in a series of two-packs in July 2009 (although with DST, they'll probably be delayed until sometime in 2010).

Those being re-released are: Kirk and Uhura, Bones and Spock and Sulu and Scotty. No news on a re-release of Chekov and I *think* Nurse Chapel and Yeoman Rand were only very recently released as singles, so I'm not sure they'll be re-released.

I don't think many Aussie online stores have much stock of TOS figures left - apart from the "Mirror" figures and the various movie figures (including Wrath of Khan).

Cheers.

does anyone know a good place to score the DST ships? The likeness on many of the figures erks me but the ships look fantastic, I've only seen the star trek 2 (wok) enterprise and the 2009 movie enterprise locally Sad

The 6" Star Trek figures are now down to $5.00 at Mr Toys Toyworld.

I still haven't seen a 6" Uhura in any stores in and around Brisbane.

Cheers.

Nah it's cool mate but thanks. Got Uhura awhile back for my eldest and she doesn't really want Kirk or Spock.

I got a couple 6" for $4.99 and 3.75" for $2.99 a while ago at Toyworld at Tweed Heads. I was there again today and they still had quite a lot, even a couple of Spocks. Bridge playset was $20 and the Enterprise was $30. I didn't buy any more today though, I think they are really very dodgy. I liked the earlier Playmates figures but these ones are just cheap crap. Can't speak for the Barbies.

Here's all 3 Star Trek Barbies in one auction at a decent price...
I don't really like Spock but the Uhura is damned fine...

And on that note here's an earlier incarnation at a good price...
